- Short filmstory about Norma filmed in 2011 with the intention of doing a longer documentary. Norma passed away before we could pick up the project again, so this is all that we've got. This was edited and uploaded in 2019 to celebrate Norma's Supernova exhibiition in Claremont, CA. For those who have commented about the music in the first couple of minutes, that is Norma's track "Air Hymn" from her album with John Zeretzke.
ruclips.net/video/pxfVsqmF1Fc/видео.html This is Norma's track used in this short film.
Thank you, what a beautiful movie, I was looking for sounds from Norma's latest musical projects, it's a great piece of information, big hug from Argentina
There are certain songs from the 60s, like Norma Tanega's 'You're Dead' or Vashti Bunyan's 'Train Song' and 'Winter Is Blue', or maybe 'Society's Child' by Janis Ian and 'Dominique' by Sister Anne that capture the spirit of the 60s like nothing else. I'm so glad that they had their moments in the light. Bless them all...
Tears of joy getting to watch this today! Norma has been my favorite musical “discovery” of this year for me. Wish I had heard her sooner. I feel so inspired by her music and her generous and creative life apart from the industry.
Thank you, I was saddened that she died yesterday.
She was an amazingly talented and evolved person. I remember "Cat named Dog" from my youth. Something about that song moved some gears way back in my young brain.
My dad's name was Sidney Kolodny. (He passed 5 years ago.) He was a musician. I don't know if he drove a cab in the 60's, I was too young to be attuned to that, but he could have. Does anyone know more about this part of Norma's story?
I hope you find out!!!
I CAME LATE TO THE PARTY .
BETTER LATE THAN NEVER.
THANKS NORMA ❤️
Never has a track like "You're Dead" ever fitted so perfectly with a movie and TV show (what we do in the shadows) Thank you Norma.
always upbeat listening to walking my cat named dog...thxs for sharing...
It knda made me cry... I found out about her music 2 days ago and found out today she died on December 29th, 2019. Sad shit... sad shit to have lost one of the greatest.
RIP she was and still awesome 🥺
I didn't know! :(
What a lovely little film about Norma! Hope you get to make the longer documentary about her some time.
Thank you Corinna!
she seems pretty hip for sure..😎
Agreed! Would absolutely love to see more on Ms Tanega! Total legend. r.i.p.
I've been crying non-stop the last three years. Today I was ready to really break down until I saw this. It made me feel better when I was adopting "you're dead" because I am out! I am grateful to share some tears for Norma. I was predestined to see this, and the other thing that I now know of.
Thanks for putting this up
A genuinely overlooked songwriter. I defy anyone not to love "A Street That Rhymes at 6AM."
Thank you for making this beautiful filmstory on this wonderful artist. Her bright spirit and humble love of art is so inspiring!
I never even knew about this woman till today. She sits very comfortably in my head alongside Joan Baez & Donovan
Жизнерадостная и позитивная Норма...
What a Beautiful Soul. That smile and laugh is contagious
Thank you,Erica. Lovely tribute to Norma.🔥⭐⭐🔥
I love that her voice still had the same vibe.ugh she was so happy. ✨😍✨😍✨
No stranger am I is such a lovely track. It is one of my favorites from her album. Rest in peace Norma. thank you for posting this video of her :)
Well, at the very least, you captured her essence and joy for living. This brought me to tears.
Just found out she's passed away. Gutted. Your edit is very good, and I and probably others would watch your unedited footage hungrily.
I love that she was always happy. What a great attitude of life.
No one is "always happy". A lot of creativity and understanding comes from the journey to and from happiness. You swim because you don't want to drown.
@@pretorious700 Way to spoil the milk
The lyrics she wrote to a J. S. Bach piece ate exceptional. Dusty recorded.
Go softly goodbye
Life is like an empty dream
Lost in the sky
I see through my tears
The sadness of years
The shadows of happiness passing
I will miss the sun when you go
I will miss the mornings of laughter and tears
Your hello and more than this as you go
Gone is the light from the day
Gone is the pleasure of night
And when you go no more welcoming love
Or a dream
So goodbye my love
Goodbye
So my love
Go gently goodbye
Memories of loving you never will die
My longing will pass
My loving will last
The whispers of time never dimming
I will miss your touch when you go
I will miss the wonder of magical love
As it grows and more than this when you go
Gone is the warmth of your smile
Now is the coldness of snow
Gone when you go is the welcome of love
And the dream
So goodbye, my love
Goodbye
Thanks for sharing the lyrics x
she is great. what a trip. she deserves a bio pic.
As many of you, I'm here because "What we do in the shadows". I will be forever thankful for this discover. Go, girl.
Thank you! Seeing her beautiful face, which is beautiful because of the ease and peace she exudes, and hearing her laugh has me falling even deeper in love with her and her works!
This is fantastic! I’m new to Norma as of today! This needs to be two hours longer!!!
She looked like a very happy lady and always busy, many talents.
What a treasure. I love it, thank you. RIP Norma
Wow! She was such a unique and vibrant woman. Very artistic and creative. This short film made me want to see a full-length documentary about her.
Amazing voice and infectious smile. May she RIP.
Wow. I just found out about her. Heard her song used as the opening for "What We Do In The Shadows" and I thought it was some new artist. When I found out it was recorded in 1966, I had to look her up. What a fascinating and spiritual person. There is something timeless in her songs and her voice. RIP.
You should release this in tribute to her! RIP!
I didn't even know she existed until this year and I'm pissed at all the time wasted not knowing about her while she was here.
This is brilliant, Erica! Thanks for sharing, really hope you manage to make the full length! Inspiring!
Love this! She is so talented and seems so joyful in every video she’s in. So glad you made this!
I miss Norma. I feel like I knew her as a friend through her BEAUTIFUL music. My fantasy is to have played accordion on Cat named Dog. Thanks for posting this.Be Safe👍❤️✌️

She looks so happy; love her! 💕
Hi Erica!!! Thank you for making this short film. I was just learning one of Norma's songs and then came across this super important video you made. Then I was even more stoked to discover it's you who made it!!! Miss you, Erica. Thank you
Nice! Wish I had the opportunity to have met Norma.
Glad you used Nurse With Wound for the soundtrack in your Norma T. movie! Awesome!
Thank you from the moon and back for sharing this. Erica, would there be any way to reach you and ask you about your experiences with Norma?

Really was the nicest surprise scrolling down and seeing your comment. Stay well, and thanks for all of your lovely tunes and all that you do! :)
Curiosities about a genius musician, from fellow genius musician 💜
So beautiful, thank you!
thank you for this short film and normas testaments
This was great, thank you for posting Erica T :)
Great film!
Proof that art is forever
Thanks, Erica. You made my day.
Very underrated artist.
so inspirational
Norma gets more amazing the more you discover her work.
A person who seemed to very much love art and creativity. Little widely known about the spiritual philosophy she adopted and expressed, it would seem. By appearance she appears to have been a humble person. Interesting to note that she had many Dusty Springfield albums (out of admiration for Dusty Springfield's performance and the memory of their personal association, I guess) but Norma appeared content just having one tattered album cover and record mixed up amongst all of the others in her collection. Perhaps her humble disposition held her back a little with regard to her musical skills and talents. Who knows? A cat called dog song will always be associated with Norma and it's unlikely that anyone else could successfully produce their own rendition of it. By many accounts she led a full and contented life. R.I.P Norma Tanega.
Wow. I only just discovered her. What an incredible talent
What she does in the Shadows, is enlightening to me🌞🙏🏼
her smile and her hands...there is something about them that make me so happy
She created one of the most catchiest intros of all time. You’re dead
What an incredible person! I wish I knew of her sooner!
Thank you Norma for touching my heart
I love her, thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you for this.
She seemed cool, disappointed to just now find out about her. Her songs go hard fr fr. Gonna be blasting a few of these for a good while.
What I love about her is she’s not overproduced.....abit off key and frankly can’t really sing but it’s so charming. 🥳
That's exactly what many modern singers lack. Give five years of practice and you can sing as well as the biggest pop star singers. But being on key with a full, rich tone and doing lots of fancy ornamentations is veeeeeeeeery boring. And it all means nothing if you just don't have this mysterious thing some call soul, mojo or whatever. That's why Bob Dylan slurring words and not hitting notes is one helluva lot better as a singer than Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande etc.
One immensely talented human beings
"She's dead, but not out of this world!" Now that her song is being heard as the theme in the hit Vampire series, with help from her surviving friends and relatives, you guys could do a real expanded documentary introducing her history to many more of us. Keep her memory alive!
"Shadows" led me to this ray of light that was Norma. I'd say RIP, but I think she's somewhere else now CIB - Creating in Bliss.
Stunning!
Please put a video of her singing the full song!! Her voice is so beautiful!
More, please!
Please release this, she was a special person.
what a rare gem of a human being :)
Thank you, Erica T for making this special film. Can you help coordinate a possible reissue of her UK LP on Capitol, "I Don't Think It Would Hurt If You Smile?"
It was on RCA.
Beautiful.
I've never heard of her until just before I posted this comment!
Trying to find actual live footage (not lipsynching they used to make them do) and interviews of tanega .. where is the complete pieces of video featured here? Seems like there should be some good stuff somewhere, no?
I loved Cat Named Dog and the other tracks as well on her only album. RIP dear sweet lady .
Very cool - thanks!
What a groovy lady, indeed love is the vehicle by which we are about to apprehend total acceptance of our current mode of being
Norma, you have touched mine and many others hearts with your kindness and music. May you rest easy. You will be forever missed.
Thank you.
incredible woman
I love this, thank you
Those are some great quotes.
Do you have the whole footage or a recording of her at the end of video performing the alt version of “Walkin’ my Cat name Dog?”
ITS REALLY GOOD!
I know. Sorry, but this is the worst "documentary" imaginable. At best a trailer for the real thing. I want to see her, not have snippets flashed before our eyes.
What a wonderful project! Do you have a GoFundMe or Kickstarter or anything that folks could contribute to that would help the film get made?
Thanks for checking in! Not yet, but I will let you know if we set one up.
@@ericat1934 Awesome! Give me a shout when you do! :)
I would be all over that! Great video as well!
Love her!
Jimmy Page constantly praises her guitar style and you can see a similar sound between them on Led Zeppelin III
This was a beautiful tribute. Happy to have learned about this Southern California artist. Sad to hear she's gone. Very impressed, and I mean that in the sense of moved and affected, by her wisdom in those quotes you feature. Does she have any other writings like these published anywhere?
Does Norma have all these quotes written down somewhere? :) Anywhere I could see or find them?!
I will check with her!
@@ericat1934 I was JUST wondering the same thing. Did you ever find out if she had those quotes written down somewhere? I would LOVE to read more.

"The true believer has the utmost faith in the continuing paradox of random occurrences."
"Love is the vehicle by which we are able to apprehend total acceptance of our current mode of being."
"Creation is the fullest attainment of our transient spirits within the scope of our unfathomable paradox."
"Termination of our magnificent biological machines by inactivity of the brain will be called death... Death is a major occurrence in our continuum of life. Grief is a necessary function of life as is joy. Therefore, every action must be based upon wisdom and compassion, unaltered by the opinion of others"
@Erica1934 Thank you for this beautiful film. Norma was a family friend and I spent many an afternoon at her home as a kid. I took art and music lessons with her, made apple pie one time. She was so wonderful. Her laugh was infectious, her art and music phenomenal. I miss her every day. It’s wonderful to be able to hear her voice and see her smile. ❤
