This looks interesting. I've just followed the kickstarter. Though I'm not sure about the goblin faces on the map, maybe crossed swords would be less meh. Also the doom tracker looks more like a business flow chart and could be less colourful and more gritty like Euthia's round tracker. This is just my opinion. Wouldn't put me off buying the game.
Feeback around the initiative tracker is already gathered and will be re-worked over the next weeks to make it look better. Appreciate the example with Euthia, will look at that! For the Goblin faces on the map: Also working on it, at least will make them smaller like the gold coins and probably add something so they can be recognized even if someone is colorblind. Suggestions welcome... maybe the number of swords? 1, 2 3 or 4 swords maybe? Or could I directly work the player count into it (at the moment: white - all players, green - from 4, yellow - from 5, red - from 6)?
I saw this on the Dungeon Dive and it intriuged me. Good review / playthrough Bairnt and I'm definitely interested in this one. You sound a bit rough, so great effort getting this one out.
I don't understand one thing. If an armor have an element (earth) and a creature attacks with the same element, the character can use the armor to avoid damages or the armor is uselless against from an attack with the same element?
Looks like the player cards should be larger , with some larger "chits" or use heavier/larger tokens instead for stat tracking those current tiny chits look "fiddlin" " to all keep in the right spots , and easily bumped And laminate the player cards for re-use, and to use an erasable marker. rather than a pad of limited count with pencil/pen
This is great feedback. One thing I didn’t show is you do get a pad of character sheet but reusable could be good. The chits for the sheet could be improved with an indented card board or something. Thanks for the great feedback and thanks for watching 😃😃👍
The old character sheets were simply writable, where you would have some fields for writing down Hit Points, Psi Points and current initiative. These will also be available to print out yourself, but many gave feedback that writing down the temporary data like hit points "did not feel very board gamey". I know that bumping is a problem and indented card board or similar might be good, but is very expensive. Will check out other options too. For laminating them: I think every player that has a laminator can simply take 6 of these sheets and laminate them to use dry erase. For the moment, a pad of 40-60 character sheets and a printable PDF for download with variations of the character sheet are the best/cheapest option. Maybe as a deluxe add-on at some time.
Looks pretty fun. One concern I have is that (atleast in this video) the heroes got far more actions than the monsters (and with the initiative working like it does I think this will be a common problem). Granted these are level 1 monsters but it doesn't appear that they get more initiative as they level up (I'm sure there are modifier cards that do though). Then again maybe it's just due to his extremely high initiative roll + the lightning potion. Hopefully this is a rare occurrence as it could throw game balance off if it happens too often. Edit: After further evaluation I realized I missed you are giving them extra activations on the initiative track--that alleviates my concern somewhat.
Yes, the heroes have more action points. This is counteracted with the Extra Activations from the Doom track - Bairnt did not play that out, as he was just ending the recording (ah, just saw your edit above). And as you mentioned, he had a Lightning potion, that helped a lot - the deck of 480 loot cards has 4 of these included, so that is not a common find. And probably it might have been better to keep it for the end boss of the scenario, that was still another 4 room tiles away ;) Still, this is definitely a game of some swinginess - sometimes you just encounter simple monsters and if you act strategical, you can get to all of them. Sometimes, you encounter monsters, each with a mod or one with multiple mods (some with extra defense or hit points, some of them also affecting the area, like darkness, slowdown or toxic aura) - making it much harder. It all depends a bit on your draws of both modifiers and traps, but overall it balances out (based on many playtests).
Yes this game is quite balanced. I may have more actions at times, but these enemies are no joke. They are normally harder to hit then for them to hit me. Which is why I’m usually scared of them. Also I used the potion cus of so much poison on the board. It could be brutal having a ton of poison tokens on you. Thanks for the great comment and thanks for watching 😃😃👍
@@vahrens Thank you for the explanation. Your response has eliminated concern regarding balance. I've signed up to be notified when your campaign launches.
@@MashingP Another point: There is some asymmetry in terms of damage. Characters normally only deal 1, 2 or 3 damage to monsters, while monsters can deal between 1 and 8 damage (for higher levels unmodified) plus possible modifiers and poison damage. That means, a Zombie (the weakest monster) might not hit always and might be easy to kill, but if you leave them on the board, there might be up to 5 Zombies quickly that each deals 3 poison damage. So IF one Zombie hits, you might lose 3 HP each round from then on unless you have a antidote...
Totally get that I’m hoping going forward that they may develop and care board thing that you can slide your character sheet into that then it would be less of a hassle. Thanks Garic 😃😃👍
@@vahrens Just a suggestion, there are other solutions out there: the plastic player trays in Eclipse, or even the cardboard player boards of Relic both track multiple values without needing a pencil.
@@garicb9271 Just had a quick check on these games and it seems like they only have 3-4 values with a range of 10. The 6 attributes in Doria can each range from 1 to 15 at least, then we have the 3 derived values (HP, PP and IP) and the changes to these within the scenario - they could range from around 20 to negative 20. So I think the solutions of these two games at least won't work as easily. But I will look into it - worst case, I am going back to all written value character sheets (or as optional download), so the bumping is no problem anymore.
There are some great things going on with this game. I would like to see the small character card and stat card combine for a dedicated character board rather than writing down the stats and discarding the card. … and why not make it larger and use a dual layer to track stat changes.
Good show. I noticed that you said you would make the ranger right-handed, you placed the tomahawk in his left hand, because that's how the label is written. They seem to have gotten left and right reversed. Maybe the ranger turned around while they were taking his picture, you think?
Ha good catch! ;) I decided to label them according to the players view (left really on the left for the player - anything else got confused looks). Yes for that to be correct, we would need to show the Ranger from behind, but what would be the fun in seeing the backside only? ;)
Dexter Samson lol. You either blocked me so I can’t see your comment or deleted it. Bit of a cowardly move isn’t it? All comments are emailed so I saw it anyway genius. By the way, think you need to go to the dictionary and read the definition of complain. “What’s with all the loot cards?” Is a question not a complaint. Curious why there are so many. “Some interesting ideas here”. Is a positive statement, not a complaint. Nice try lol.
Between this and Dungeons of Infinity, was one of them more fun that the other? There seems to be a lot of similarities, but I really like the dungeon tiles in Dungeons of Doria. Thanks for the video!
This need some graphical design love. Card and character art is way better than the tile art. It's off putting. I think the player initiative should be tracked on a double layer player board with your stats in a similar way or dials.
Tiles will be reworked slightly a bit still, especially if you are referring to the monster icons on them. Can you define a bit more what you mean with double layer board for the initiative board? Dials for 6 stats/attributes plus the calculated values would be a lot of dials. Can do, but not really feasible and nice to use. But if there are good ideas or games already doing something like this, I am definitely looking into options to improve. Examples would be great.
@@vahrens I can see you point about the dials. Maybe a wet erase player board would work then for stats like HexploreIt did. Don't think you need one per class just a set of them then slot in the class card.
@@deathgrip509 Will look at HexploreIt, do not own it myself, thanks for the example. I had a fully writable character sheet before, but people asked for a more "boardgamey" solution. Oh yeah!!! So much loot!! Daniel awesome to hear from you as always. I’m excited for this one!! 😃😃👍
Great thing about this game is it’s fully print and play including all books for 18$. This package also has the addons for TTS
