Dreamcatcher is, in my opinion, by far the most underrated group out there in K-Pop. Their B-sides are as good as their title tracks on the albums.
If you're looking for a heavy-rock influenced title, you have "Endless Night", a japanese song.
Also, for your next reaction to them (because I REALLY hope you do another one), you can finish the Dystopia trilogy by watching Scream then Odd Eye, or watch a fan-favourite song called "Deja Vu", something that a lot of people reference to as a "anime opening vibe" music (and they're partially right as it was made for the game "King's Raid")

Boca means "mouth" in Spanish and Portuguese and is part 2 of the Dystopia trilogy, which deals with bullying and hate comments, in particular the online variant ("A trick behind a mask, a ridiculous freak" from Scream). Boca has the line "Too many angels dying now", which points to the effects those comments can have. Several Kpop idols have committed suicide in the past years, most likely because of cyber-bullying, but this is also about everybody who suffer from online hate. There's a lot more to this song than I'm saying here, but I don't want to write a big, indigestible paragraph that wouldn't be read.
One thing we love about Dreamcatcher is their songs having pretty deep lyrics, talking about real and important issues that unfortunately don't get talked about much. (or, for their first serie, "Nightmare", having a deep lore with a lot of interpretations and lore-digging possible). The MVs also are interessant to analyse, as they complete the lyrics, and can give many hints.
Welcome to the Dreamworld! Dreamcatcher are very unique. They are the dark angels of Kpop and the only girl group who consistently incorporate Rock and Metal in their title tracks, fusing that with Kpop into something that basically is a new genre. They also are drenched in horror and social criticism, which again is special. Plus, they are massively talented, all of them. And while the girls look like they could rip out your spine when they are on stage, off stage they are adorable crackheads. 😉

When I tell you I've been WAITING for you to reach to Dreamcatcher because as another metalhead, I LOVE them. You should def check out Scream and Odd Eye as well. And yes, it is very much their vibe all along!
Every Dreamcatcher title track is a surprise. They never do the same thing twice, but the rock is always there. Their most metal song is their Japanese release Endless Night. Their debut song Chase Me and it's sequel Good Night are also solid rock.

I had a similar reaction to Dreamcatcher. I'm a 24yo metalhead and wouldn't touch kpop with a 10 foot pole. My sister recommended Dreamcatcher to me and I cannot thank her enough

curious if someone recommended boca if they described dreamcatcher as metal lol. boca is part of their dystopia trilogy which is imo their most mainstream pop sounding, with hints of guitar so I guess for someone who doesn't listen to rock might consider it metal 😅. first and foremost, they are a vocal oriented group so that falls into pop, but they do mix it up a lot with instrumentation and do use a lot of rock/metal influences to varying degrees in each song. when I say mix it up, they really mix it up because their discography spans across all genres and they will rarely reuse sounds heard in previous songs. even their use of rock/metal is vary diverse. it's hard to recommend a song because all of them are so different and will appeal to different musical taste, but if you want to hear a song that is more on the heavier rock side all the way through, try endless night. their most recent apocalypse trilogy(maison, vision, bon voyage) has a lot more industrial rock/metal influences so if you are into that, but they got a lot of cool songs outside of rock as well.

This is the second song of a trilogy (Scream, Boca, Odd Eye), but the viewing order of the first two doesn't really make much difference.
I was already a Dreamcatcher fan when they release "Boca"... so, of course, I loved it. (and still do)

Dreamcatcher was known as a group called "MINX" and it was composed of 5 members :
Jiu, Dami, Yoohyeon, SuA and Siyeon.
The concept was bubbly (I like bubbly concept).
MINX debuted in 2014 with 'Why Did You Come To My Home?' [MV].
But they rebranded it to "Dreamcatcher" and debuted as a 7 member group :

i don’t know if anyone has said this yet but boca is the second part of their dystopia trilogy that is based on the saying "see no evil (odd eye), hear no evil (scream), speak no evil (boca)"
As someone who has seen Boca live, I can confirm, it do slap.
Most of their Japanese tracks are either proper metal or hard rock (Endless Night, My Way, I Miss You, No More, Eclipse (Opening 2 for the anime King's Raid: Successors of the Will), Don't Light My Fire (a bit darker, reminds me a bit of symphonic metal). Their debut as Dreamcatcher, Chase Me, is decently heavy, along with the follow-up Good Night.
Dreamcatcher doing rock/metal influence in kpop group format, alongside Dreamcatcher, you gonna love Rolling Quartz too, the difference is they do band format. Also
- the drummer is (or was) a drum teacher of one of dreamcatcher member
- the bassist also a fan of dreamcatcher (she has RUclips channel named RUMI and have an unboxing video like the regular fans)
- they (as a group) do a remake of dreamcatcher's song titled Good Night
Both dreamcatcher and rolling quartz also signed under lower mid tier agency, so they need to work harder just to get enough attention. Also they both female group, they both rock influenced which are the least recipe to get famous in Korea (Korea in general glorifying boygroup more than girlgroup, and having rock genre as the least genre to be liked)
Having them in that situation, it sounds impossible to work if they don't work harder. Because they need to show more skills and talents to be recognised, not the group which already famous before making a debut. So their popularity felt more organic and more meaningful for themselves and the fans
If you want their most rock/metal tracks then I'd recommend "goodnight" "what" and some of their japanese songs like "No More" and "Endless Night"
Dreamcatcher is very much a group that draws rock influences in all of their title tracks but they also tackle other genres in their b-side tracks. I try to avoid saying that dreamcatcher are metal influenced because that can often give the wrong impression to metal heads (being one myself) so rather I'd say they will frequently include commonly used rock and pop-rock elements and they often use dark fantasy concepts in their music videos.
Edit: just to add my own recommendation (if you haven't seen them already) I'd like to recommend a fairly new group called "Kiss of Life" they have more of a 90's early 2000's pop and R&B vibe to them and are a very interesting group imo, a 4 member group where every member has a very unique vocal tone that contrasts well with each other. They're also great performers, their live vocals are some of the best of the newer kpop groups.

Like people said, if I want to recommend someone who is a big fan of rock or metal, I would recommend maybe Vision first, Good Night, or Endless Night. Boca is great but not a good choice for specific audience, especially with expectations. it's more leaning toward general audiences

Their Japanese releases are much more metal than their Korean releases:) But they have so much variety, and have lots of great B sides too💛 the members are also HILARIOUS, and I ADORE their live stages!!! They definitely stick with their rock vibes but they do have a lot of vibes they show too!!! Side note I really love their song Bonvoyage:)

You should check out all of Dreamcatcher's title tracks, they have a unique rocks sound that they stick to, but they also always find a way to change it up. But a couple of songs I would suggest would be Good Night (an early song) and Vision (a more recent song). They have a substantial metal head following for a Kpop group.

for first time dreamcatcher jumped the budget, and tried their hardest to gain a victory that was so important for dreamcatcher kareer.. yet the victory came way later.

Another good rock based group is Xdinary Heroes. Unlike other groups, they’re actually a band that plays instruments instead of a boy group. All of their songs are amazing but I think the best place to start would either be Break the Brake, Haircut, or Happy Death Day
Don’t know if it’s mentioned, but some of the same producers for Dreamcatcher also produce for Ateez, and the choreographers for Ateez also worked on the choreography for That That that you reacted to before.
bon voyage is probably my favourite tite track of their's! Vision is great too!!
absolutely check out "bonvoyage" if you like an epic, grand and kinda nostalgic sounding rock anthem or maybe "deja vu" (my personal favourite single by them) for an epic rock ballad that kinda sounds like evanescence and is an absolute masterpiece

You should try Break the Brake and Freaking Bad by Xdinary Heroes, a Korean rock band that sometimes has a metal edge to them (and sometimes does some grunge, and pop punk as well as rock ballads)

If you want the rock vibes go back to their beginning. That would be Chase Me official MV. They've been on their rock shit from the start. I could recommend a lot but if your interested start there and work your way up. These girls have whatever it is that you want, trust. It's a rabbit hole of personal enjoyment. They're not that popular in the K-pop scene but they've been around for a long time and anyone with a brain recognizes the talent on all levels.
I don't actually think their Dystopia Trilogy (Scream, BOCA, Odd Eye) are really the best examples of metal they have used, Scream probably being the most but it's a mix of Rock and EDM influences under a K-pop umbrella. Check out BONVOYAGE though (Apocalypse Trilogy: Maison, VISION, BONVOYAGE), or Fly High or Good Night from their Nightmare series. They also have J-Rock influenced Japanese tracks like No More, or Don't Light My Fire.

You should check Seo Taiji and Boys, the first k-pop group. I recommend you listen: Must Triumph, Classroom Idea and Anyhow Song. They have a lot of rock influences and Seo Taiji, as soloist, has an nu metal album named Ultramania.

it indeed goes absolutely insane live (went to their concert for the 1st time in february)!! i started listening to them in 2018 i think and they're my favourite group to ever exist, i don't think i'll ever like an artist as much as i like them fr, crazy good music and the girls are the sweetest and funniest ppl ever!

They slay in live concerts. Saw them 2 times and always a great party
Dreamcatcher is my favourite K-POP group but I listen to a lot of other K-POP groups and other stuff as well. Scream (Part-1) and also Boca (Part-2) have another english subtitle tracks available where they put the name of the member in front of each line. There is a also a great 'BOCA' Dance Video (K-Zombie ver.) available. Handong is missing in those parts (in Scream she was replaced with a dancer wearing a mask) as she was stuck in China during the Covid shutdown and couldn't return. She joins the rest of the group again in "Odd Eye" (Part-3).
I've seen Dreamcatcher 3 times live (last one only 3 month ago) and if they are in your area I can highly recommend to get tickets.
At some point you'll get to the track "Good night". Then (maybe even before that) you might also check out "Rolling Quartz" (more K-Rock). They are also Dreamcatcher fans and know each other personally. RQ got the chance to cover "Good night" and put it on their official album release...something which doesn't happen very often. I attended their concerts as well two times this year and just got my ticket for the concert in January 2025. Fun fact: A lot of people I talked to while waiting before the RQ concert also said they are DC fans....and I also saw some again at the Everglow as well as the Dreamcatcher concerts following the RQ concert. 😂
I hope we'll see an DC+RQ on stage collab or special clip at some point in the future. I think DC + RQ is a perfect match!
I love Dreamcatcher!!! There’s a lot of groups these days that have tried out a few harder tracks, and you know why? Because Dreamcatcher made it popular. They’re the first K-pop group in the industry to make rock/metal influence a core part of their identity since debut, and despite being from a small company, going five years before getting a single music show win, and facing consistent backlash from the industry especially in their earlier days, they’re now one of the ONLY still active third generation groups, and just renewed their contracts! Just a truly amazing, inspiring group of girls. They’re also the first K-pop group ever invited to Primavera Sound!
It’s really interesting that you started off with Boca, which is arguably one of their more mainstream tracks, so since you liked it so much I think you’ll definitely enjoy what else they have to offer! As a metalhead myself, I absolutely adore them and would love to offer you some recs for future listening: Good Night, What, Deja Vu, Don’t Light My Fire, Mayday, Break the Wall, Odd Eye, Bon Voyage, Propose, Rising.
It’s also worth noting that the group actually has seven members-one, Handong, was not present in this MV because she was stuck in China due to covid travel restrictions.
Also, if you’re interested in more groups with rock influence, I’d recommend Rolling Quartz! They’re an all-female k-rock band, and actually have a cover of Dreamcatcher’s song Good Night. Some other songs and groups I like that are metal influenced are PinkFantasy’s Poison (they even have a guy doing harsh vocals on it!), Everglow’s First which is VERY cyberpunk with symphonic elements, XOrdinary Heroes is a male k rock band, and you might also like the boy group Ateez as they share producers with Dreamcatcher.

Ah yes. Dreamcatcher. Got your question of "is this a one off?" NOPE NOT EVEN IN THE SLIGHTEST! That's why I've been a fan of them for 7 years. This is one of their more fusion blend tracks (and keep in mind I'm talking about ONLY title tracks - they have some B-sides that will be right down your alley too.) they have some dead ass metal tracks on the Japanese releases. But this rock and metal blend is Dreamcatcher's trademark sound. You can get a mosh pit going to nothing but their songs (Primavera had a small one) and there are some EXCELLENT opportunities for headbanging if one is so inclined.
Recs: all of their title tracks (most are connected into stories spanning several MVs: Nightmare is Chase Me, Good Night, Fly High (the prequel to the first two), What, and Piri; Dystopia is Scream, Boca, and Odd Eye; Apocalypse is Maison, Vision, and Bon voyage; Villains is OOTD and their next comeback; unconnected MVs are Deja Vu, BEcause, Rose Blue, Reason, Over the Sky, and Full Moon) and Break the Wall (power ballad with a funny af self-made MV), Demian (dance video), Sahara (again, hilarious self-made MV where they're acting out the literal lyrics), just yeah. Their discography has very very few misses.
Also, Dreamcatcher and Ateez share producers 😊 and if you haven't seen it, you NEED to see Ateez performing Guerilla live in London. That was truly the moment when I understood why Ateez said they literally can't hear anything for the last 30 seconds of the song.
