Tom, I've been driven completely nuts by my touchpad for years and none of the tutorials mention the synaptics app. You, my friend, are a Godsend!
I am glad this helped!
Thanks a lot Chris,so simple yet so effective. I have suffered accidental touchpad problems when using keyboard for ages.
Glad it helped!
Thank You So Much! 😢

Great to hear, Glad it helped!
updated method:
1. search "Synaptics Touchpas" on windows search
2. open that bad boy up
3. and there it is.... the button to disable the annoying touch that messes your laptop when you try to rest your palm.
Thanks for the tip.
Oh my gawd! I've been trying to find this solution for two hours, thank you!
Absolutely hilarious. Not a single setting shown here is on my Windows 10 HP laptop.
Every laptop is different.
Chris, this is a great tutorial ... short concise, and direct. Thanks.
You're welcome!
Thank you . My touchpad has been acting like crazy . Worked , hope the problem doesn’t come back 😄
I hope so too, fingers crossed.
Thank you!
I would not have found this "additional mouse option" or know where to find it if I didn't watch your video. Super🐀🐁😘👏
Thanks again.
Glad I could help!
sarcasm in your voice was so overwhelming it forced me to find touchpad option in w11
I am glad my voice helped you to find it.
I’ve looking for this video like you have no idea. The steps were different, but after one of the last windows updates the last options did not give the option, and I thought it was not possible. Thank you
No Problem, I am glad the video helped!
Wow that was simple. You were so concise and easy to follow thank you!
You're welcome! If you haven't done so already please don't forget to subscribe to my RUclips Channel, its Free and easy to do so and you will find out about all my latest videos.
Chris both videos show the same thing. What do we do if we don't have the window with the disable selection like you show?
Unfortunately not all laptops have this feature. You could disable the mouse in the device manager.
@@cwtek1 I figured it out. You now have to run as administrator for touchpad in order to disable the touchpad
Thank you so much. I was trying to find that option for a while now.
Glad I could help!
omg the only video that helped me. thank you very much
Glad it helped!
Thank you! Very concise and helpful. Appreciate it!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks Chris Waite. It's very helpful.
You're welcome!
The video and all the follow up comments are quite simply excellent and what is best about Ytube with people helping each other.
HP's driver and support site quality has varied a lot over the years and has mostly been pretty damned awful. For this reason (and silly prices) the further education division of which I am a part no longer bulk buys HP laptops.
Our joke is that HP stands for "horrible products" and "hard profits".
Thank you I am glad this video was useful to you, I think what you said about HP can be reflected to quite a few manufacturers of today.
Thank you. Excellent directions.
You're very welcome!
Mine never goes to that small screen. it goes to a different small screen. I try to find yours, I cannot. please help
Thank you!!. I had the reverse issue and fixed it now.
That's great glad the video helped!
Thank you so much i have been having problems with it for soo long.
That's great glad it helped!
Thank you for helping us disable that touchpad. However even those are the best instructions I have read, they still did not help me with the touch pad. It seems like there is not one listed for my hp. what I do is place a piece of cardboard on the touch pad so it is not so sensitive. I hate the thing and have always used my mouse.
The icon in the upper-right-hand corner is not a "cross" it is an "x." Generally, when a person says, "click," it MEANS left-click, so there is no need to say it every time. Clicking "apply" is only needed when the user plans on applying changes before clicking OK and/or closing out of the settings box. It is unneeded when a user plans on closing out of the box anyway. When "OK" is clicked, all changes are applied.
Thank you for your advice, but if I don't say left or right, I will get a certain number of people who will ask "is that a left click" so rather than have to reply to hundreds of comments saying Left Click I find it easier to be as clear as possible in the video. With regards to the Apply I prefer to do it that way just to confirm the settings before closing the box, it allows people to double check the setting is correct before closing the Window.
Thank you Chris this really helped.
That's great to hear!
Thank you sir very very helpful.
Glad it helped
Well, when that does not work, as it is often not visible when Microsoft has updated Windows 10+, then you can go to the device manager, put in the mouse in the USB, then find the pointing device under the manager, and see if you have 2 pointing devices. If you have only 1, don't do it, as you will switch off the only one you have (mouse). If you see 2 devices, then remove your mouse. Update the screen. If you then have 1 device, then you now know that this is your touch pad. Double click on it. Then select "Disable device" under settings. You will now see the mouse cursor disapper. Reconnect your mouse, and you are now set, as the touchpad is disabled.
Thanks for the tip!
Perfect, Thanks Chris!
You're welcome!
In my additional mouse options box (mouse properties), there is no device settings tab (top/far right tab), so it can't be done on my laptop. I have windows 10.
you could try clicking on the start button then type on your keyboard the word touchpad see if touchpad appears on the best match after a few seconds click on that and see if you can find the settings you need in there.
I would like to point that this option is not available on the new windows update so what can we do about it

@@cwtek1 my mouse pad has been driving me crazy (accidentally highlighted my essay while typing, then replaced my essay with the very next letter that i typed). I was beyond pissed. Your video finally helped me solve this nagging issue.
thank you, thank you, thank you!
You are so welcome!
My HP laptop irks the be-jabbers out of me: PROXIMITY (not actually touching) the touchpad turns it on and off causing my PC games to momentarily quit to the desktop especially in crucial situations.
A small complaint which I'm sure you nor anyone else can address or remedy: Now that the touchpad is disabled, the small yellow light in the left hand upper corner of the touchpad is perpetually lit. I would've preferred that no light is on.
I am afraid there is know solution to this apart from taking your laptop apart and removing the bulb!
thank you this really help keep it up :)
Glad it helped!
Thanks sir!
Most welcome!
Thanks bro 😀😀
I hope this helped!
Thanks!

HI, i have done just this, only problem is, everytime i open my HP laptop, the pad is up and live again, so i have to go through this all over again! how can i perminantly keep it off? thank you.
That's really strange it should hold, you might need to contact HP or a local computer support person to find out why this is not holding.
Thank you

why i do not have the device settings tab near hardware?

Help me. I don't have TouchPad tab in additional mouse settings
Try clicking the start button (bottom Left hand corner) then type Touchpad, after a few moments you might see touchpad appear under best match, if you see this click on it, hopefully you will find the option in there!
@@cwtek1I found it but I can't see On/off option. Only sensivity level.
@@takoyakimaster4964 You may have a key on your keyboard on the top row of keys which turns your touchpad on and off check your laptop's manual.
@@cwtek1 ok, I see. Thanks mate.
Thank you for uploading this video. Unfortunately, it didn't help. There was not tab called Device Setttings. Why is this?
Please check the description of the video for a couple of other possible ways to overcome this problem!
i do not have device settings why is this?
Touchpads are made by different manufactures and the settings can differ!
Superb
Thank you! Cheers!
But there is no such a settings in my laptop.
Unfortunately everyone's laptop is different, you will need to contact your manufacturer!
omg thank you so much

Can you help me ❓when I get to the mouse page there is no disable box. I also went into device manager and clicked on properties and the disable touch pad is Grey and obviously I can't click on it. This is driving me crazy. I just want to use my mouse but the TouchPad gets touched and things on my pc go ape.
Unfortunately not all laptops have this option.
@@cwtek1 it is ok I got it the way I want it now.

device zsettings does not show
Yours maybe a different driver try clicking the start button then type Touchpad on your keyboard then click Touchpad underneath Best Match and see if you can find the setting from there.
@@cwtek1 oh thank you!
The problem is I don't have the "Device Settings" tab on additional mouse options. How to solve this please
Try clicking start button and type touchpad then under best match click Touchpad and see if you can disable the touchpad from there!

There is no device settings
Unfortunately every laptop is different, you could try clicking on the Start button then type Touchpad click on Touchpad settings and see if you can turn it off from there!
There is no "Device Settings". Is there an update?
Please try clicking the start button and then type on your Keyboard Touchpad then click Touchpad and see if you can find the settings from there!
Thanks for this, and to Tom Russo for the update. Before I do this, I want to be clear that if for any reason my mouse stops working, I can easily reenable the pad. Can anyone comment?
If the mouse stops working, then just unplug the mouse and the touchpad will activate, you can test it out by following this video then plug the mouse in and see if the touchpad stops then unplug the mouse and it should activate automatically.
@@cwtek1 thanks, I'll give it a go.
@@cwtek1 Better still, it now has a "Leave the touchpad on when a mouse is connected" setting. I've unchecked it. Seems to have done the trick.
@@cwtek1 So the answer now is to type "touchpad" in the search bar.
@@cwtek1 Unfortunately, I have a mouse which 'goes to sleep' after a period of inactivity. When it does, the pad re-enables itself. Any ideas? This is a serious disadvantage to this laptop.
Its just dumb they don't have FN+button for that. My Fujitsu had that, just hit the button and turn on/off it..
but windows 11 doesn't have it sadly
Try typing touchpad in the start menu, then click on touchpad and see if you can find anything in there.
i dont have this option in my new hp laptop what should i do now ???
You could try this way ruclips.net/video/nJywt0njA1c/видео.html

@@cwtek1 yes yes thank you once again I found the option to turn it off it was a different way then yesterday but my cursor is still moving by itself think it's super damaged or something
anyone with a msi , i found a solution. Go down in the taksbar where it says type here to search , then search device manager , go to mouse and pointing devices , search for synapse touch ppad or something like that , then roll it back to a previous update , then when it tells you to restart , click on no and do the restart manually, then go back to devices yadayada yada , go to ps/2 which would be the old update version of synapse touchpad , right click and it will say update driver , it would be grayed out like it isnt an option but it is , once that updates again...dont let it restart it for you , you gotta manually restart it yourself. ONCE YOURE BACK , WELL YOU CAN FINALLYY USE FN+F3 :) took me forrever to find a decent explanation , everyone says unistall this , go to manufacturer and download this , go to bios , hotkey but no....the isssue for me was , my fn plus f3 didnt disable touchpad . now it does
Thank you for the information, lets hope this will help someone!
