Thanks for all the comments, it's my car. It is a Holden 3800 V6, the engine in the early day was called the Buick because that was the design taken to create the Holden. Nothing in it is Buick, it is not a Buick.
The Buick V6 was in almost every race car back then. Atleast in America. They were in Indycars, NASCAR stock cars, IMSA prototypes, Pro Stock drag cars, Trans Am cars, etc.
Remember this thing sitting under a tarp in a back yard on the southside of Brissy. He had two cars got them for a bargain price (I know I was not quick enough to snap them up from the previous owner), I was keen on the red one. Good to see it back on track.
I was at the opening event for these cars in the late 80s. About 10 cars,, 3 broken cranks and a couple of bent cars. Not the ideal!! Bargwarna and Bright beating each other up. Buicks?? early VN Commodore engine that was based on a Buick. Complete with front drive intake manifold!!
The car was driven by Roger Martin in 1990 and he had an association with Richmond Tafe, I recall some of the apprentices worked on the car ant some of the race meetings.
@@crdmotorsport49 like I said, I know it's a race car... So I know it's done that way for a reason But when I look at it It looks like the driver is sitting in what should be the engine bay Just a little funny that's all
I’m from the us I drive a Buick Regal the motor in this race car looks like my motor. It’s the same shit g ain’t nun different. It’s like calling an Audi 1.8/2.0/3.2/3.6 not an vw
While the origins of the Holden v6 started out as a buick motor, not much is interchangeable as Holden modified the engine to suit it's purpose here in Australia.
@@Frietpan no the Indy buick v6 is a completely different engine with no directly interchangeable parts. Also the Buick 3300 turbo v6 came before Holden began using the v6 here

Never heard a Holden V6 sound that good 👍
You superstar, Rohan .

Slightly different engines, most of those are either 'Stage 2' engines or the 3300 Indy turbo v6
So 340hp out of 3800cc is insane now.
Like the Formula Holdens as good idea to use a production motor in a single seater series
Correct me if I'm wrong, but these were the fastest cars around a track in Australia in their day.
True. And records set by Skaife 30 years ago at Eastern Creek have not even been broken by current S5000....

Hey Michael, contact me via messenger, need to ask you about the previous owner. Cheers Rohan
Great video thanks!
Ahh the old day being at the races when it was the touring cars

I kept thinking of Teo Fabi during the onboard footage, must be the lid pattern
The lid is actually inspired by Peter Revson's Formula 1 helmet 👍
Good Mang
What’s the association with Richmond College of TAFE?
I did my mechanical apprenticeship there from 1985.
We're not sure. We'll have to ask Rohan when we next see him (or he might comment here)

WAIT, Buick V6 with a turbo? Is this an old CART IndyCar engine from their early 90's Indy 500 program?
While the Indy cars were turbo, this it 100% N/A.... Look up Formula Holden if you'd like to know more about them
No Turbos in the class.
Formula Mang.
Really dig the vibe of this motor.
See what I did there?! 😂
I know it's a race car but the proportions of this car look so strange
Why?? Look at a March 87B F3000. Cars from that era all look similar. The theory was to get the driver as far forward as possible.

Its like the fish that got away. Is it 340 or 360? Make up your mind.
They sound terrible in commodores. Must be because of ristricted exhaust?
Perhaps based on a Buick motor of old but it's NOT a Buick motor, its a Holden motor made in Australia. Get it right.
Ease up mate, he said "It's got a Holden V6 in it, 3.8 litre, commonly known as the Buick engine.." But yes, the title is misleading.
@@johnmurray7682 so in short buick used a bored out holden v6 and branded it buick?
