    Literally burst out laughing when you said the only mistake you can make is reading with a Thoth deck!!!!!
    Context is everything!!!!!

    for almost 2 decades I've hated the celtic cross but recently I watched Vincent Pitisci's videos with his version of the celtic cross which kinda was a revelation. which prompted me to make my own edits to the traditional celtic cross and now it's one of my fave spreads for personal use!

      I love Vincent Pitisci's videos! They are very seasoned wisdom. I can really see what era's he has read tarot through in his wisdom; he read through eras where the tarot was publically mocked by science and society. He is a brave, wise, honest and committed person!

    The Benebell cut idea that you talked about is "the opening of the key" I use it all the time. I have the querent cut the deck and YES it's a way to zero in on where to look for answers... I really dislike that whole change the question thing, I think it's such a copout. Sometimes reading can be really uncomfortable, but you have to answer the question.

    Ooh I love the 9-card spread idea. It's a nice jumping point from spreads with specific questions to just straight-up free form, which I find somewhat daunting no matter how comfortable with the cards I am. Will definitely try that one!

    You could NEVER do too many of these "tips" videos. I really hope you do a part 2 to this. (As well as parts 3, 4, 5, etc...) 😁

    Thank you so much for this video Tom, it was extremely helpful and inspirational. I've been studying tarot for over 2 years and hoping to start reading from people I don't know. My dream is to ultimately make this my career.

    This is how I do celtic cross as for today:
    up: mind
    down: surroundings
    left: something to avoid or solve
    right: something in favor, an asset or an opportunity
    7: recommended state of mind or perspective to look at the problem
    8: neccesary preparations/ active changes in his environment or life they need
    9: crucial event in the future / moment to act (I keep this one unturned untill the consultant asks for more details to avoid too much information at once)
    10: Outcome (i also keep this one unturned)

      Oh God - that might take Years!! I dismissed a lot of books when I moved, but I’ve managed to inherit (I.e., buy) more since I’ve been here - but an organization may be coming soon; I don’t have room and I need to make space for more books and cards!

    Thanks, Tom - this feels like a real masterclass. I have a question that I've never managed to resolve for myself. If, as you say (and I agree), there's no such thing as meaning - if the only meaning in the cards is the meaning we give them (as I think you've said elsewhere) - then _how_ do the cards always answer the question? How can some randomly chosen images be relied on to answer an essentially random question if, as I (and I think you) believe, there's no magical or causal link between question and cards? What's the mechanism?

    • @thefoolsjournal
      @thefoolsjournal  5 лет назад +11

      That's a big question!! I don't really know. In a weird way, I'm OK not knowing...it makes me feel like maybe there is some magic at work, even if it's practical magic or ordinary miracles. But I do think that so much of modern physics is coming close to talking about things esotericists have said for a long time that maybe there's something there after all!

    Tom's Top Tarot Tips - YAS! Firstly, good luck with your new job! You've probs started by now, hope it is going well - ie sussed out who's up for cocktail hour! 😜
    Secondly, I am a huge fan of the Celtic Cross lol! But agree - not a great question answer-er. Sometimes that's the point. So many people dont really want to know the answer, dont want to believe it. The Celtic Cross provides the 'faff' factor - ambiguous & open to interpretation. What's the point in that, I hear you cry! Yeah, with you on that.....yet, as a fellow student of Camelia, sometimes.....I need and miss the faff!
    Thirdly -why,do I still not own the Albano Waite!!???
    Oh and 'Molly, you're in danger girl!' ....EVERYTHING!!!! 🤣
    Thanks Tom,great vid. So much food for thought x

      I start Monday! I’m terrified!! People who love the CC totally know how to make it work and I’m so there for that! I think it’s kind of a cool spread in some ways, but it’s like... I dunno.... We have a love/hate relationship. BUT: there are some really great adaptations of that that I love!

    It's good to know I'm not the only one who goes "What the fuck does that mean?" LOL! Ugh...the story. The struggle is real, that's one of the things I'm focusing on because switching gears is a problem for me. Practice, practice, practice, right? Robert Place is amazing! I love his books and decks! I have to say I totally agree with you about 1 card pulls. There just doesn't seem to be enough with one. I've generally started pulling at least three. These were great! Looking forward to watching Part 2 now!

    I love this! My first thought about Temperance in the context of fun was “mix some shit up!” Take something you know you enjoy so you have a starting point but what else can you throw into the mix to make it new and exciting? Or if you want to go straight up face value I was even thinking You need a night out clubbing/cocktails lmao... Side note: I FINALLY pulled the trigger on purchasing La Corte de Tarocchi lol I’ve got that and the Vacchetta deck from Il Managhello both coming from Tarotbg (couldn’t get them from Collectarot unfortunately) and I’m so excited!

    • @thefoolsjournal
      @thefoolsjournal  5 лет назад +1

      Ahhhhh!!!!! Those two decks!!! Oh the Corte! Oh the Vachetta! I swear that the artist who made the Corte was tapping into my soul’s music. And YES to temperance as mixing stuff up! That angel had a diploma in mixology and is making the best cocktails tonight!♥️🤣

    What a relief to know that such an esteemed practitioner as yourself is also tripped up by the pain in the @$$ Celtic Cross! It has bugged me for 50 years!! Thank you for validating my pain and being so down, bro. You freed me. I luv ya! This is a great tape that I will consult often.

    I’m loving learning Tarot but I’m incredibly overwhelmed and intimidated by the sheer number of resources and information. I’m not much of a book person with Tarot anymore. I read some like 5 books and I’ve gotten sick of the massive sections on individual card meanings. Do you have any suggestions on practicing and continued learning without massive individual card meaning sections?

      That’s a great question. My book, Your Tarot Toolkit, is a workbook meant to help put all your learning into practice. Classes are great, too.

    Number 4! It gets me so annoyed. The cards shouldn’t control the reading, the reader should.
