I feel that it would help if the reader would explain to their client about the values that the minor arcana cards represent,; like - the wands represent the 'different issues from energy'. the swords represent 'mental issues from struggles or victories', the pentacles represent 'money issues or resources', the cups represent 'emotional issues or happy abundance from the heart'. Knowing this (helped me) categorize the general representation of each card presented. What spiritual category each card resonates may help everyone if they are aware of these BEFORE the reading even begins. What do you think? (The major arcana cards are definitely horses of a different color).

4 is a steady stable number. Think.pf the 4 legs of a table. Numerology makes a lot of sense when you study it.

I just got a "Color your own deck" set and I am writing the meanings on the back. The package came with a regular deck and then the one to color in I feel like this is the perfect way for me to make my own "flash card " deck without harming a good deck.

Another thing I've noticed in the Minor Arcana is that you can extrapolate a story for each suit, much like Tips 3 and 4. There's 10 'chapters' to the story, and it's up to you as the diviner to take the meaning from the individual chapters. Thanks for uploading this video, I'm new to Tarot and these will certainly help me find my way through the myriad of meanings for each one.

      @DailyTarotGirl  9 лет назад +14

sopranophantomista Yes! You are absolutely right. That is actually a creative writing exercise I did a few years ago, where you write a story and each Tarot card in the minor suit of your choice tells one part of a story, as you progress through the 1-10, each card reveals a new chapter in the story. Good luck with your Tarot studies!!!

I have the Vertigo deck by Dave McKean, the great part about it is that a lot of the cards have characters from some of the Vertigo comic books and graphic novels. Since I've read a lot of them it's easier for me to remember the meaning of the cards cause I can relate it back to the character or a situation the character was in. I was lucky to get this deck. I feel so deeply connected to it. Thank you for this video, I'm going to try these exercises!.

write a poem or incantation or prayer or whatever the hell you wanna call it for each card. i kid you not you will have no choice but to learn them. you can even invoke or evoke the card by reciting the poem to yourself or others. Just do a steam of consciousness exercise where everything you think about the cards meaning is written down. then take notes from a book on the meanings, then write what you literally and symbolically see in the actual pictures themselves. Then you take all that jumbled information and find all the words that rhyme with each-other. use those rhymes to make yourself a poem. (even if the poem itself has no rhyme on purpose) once you have one poem for each card your'e pretty much there. Extra credit if you incorporate reversals either as a sort of bridge within the poem or write 78 separate poems for the reversed meaning of each card. Good luck tho because this method is not for everyone and requires a large amount of time, dedication, and contemplation. but its worth it.

I just saw this on your site: "If you are the creative writing type, try crafting a story ...". I LOVE THIS. I'm a poet & new to Tarot. Last Fall, I incorporated the Major Arcana in a daily meditation & poetic endeavor comprised of 3 purposes: 1. To encourage daily meditation; 2. To really digest and absorb meaning & relation within the cards; 3. To generate new poetic material that had no ultimate purpose other than to "let go" & simply "be". I'm in the editing/revision process now. :-)

These are all excellent tips, although I do agree with you about number 7, I don't think I could ever bring myself to write on my deck.
A tip I found helps me sometimes is sticking a card to a dry erase board with a magnet and writing around it...any symbols that stand out to me, keywords associated with the card, what meaning if any I gather from the colors in the card. It not only helped while developing my own definitions of the cards, but even now of a card keeps coming up in readings over and over and I think it's trying to tell me something I'm not getting, it helps to examine it more closely.

I was wondering when I was going to see this particular premonition revealed.

I have scanned my cards so that I can make a folder for each one Using microsoft word I have put the image of the card to the top left and make notes on the right. I have also because they are in individual folders used note pad as a tagging system with main meanings which I can use the doc file for more notes as needed. I plan on adding other details to these folders such as symbolism, numerology and colour meanings etc This way I can build a detailed a quick reference to each cards. I also plan on making my own tarot decks as I am getting back into doing art. These references will help me for when I design my own cards. I suggest that others photocopy each card on A4 paper leaving them the original card in fill size, this will give you plenty of room to make notes.

Another tip is to think in terms of metaphore. So for example if you are giving a reading for someone who is very pit upon nd you turn over the hanged man reversed what might spring to mind is "climb down off your cross!" Time to stop feeling sorry for yourself and change your perspective and get a grip.
Or with the chariot maybe you then it over and think "you need to get out of Dodge!" I feel like mataphores and figures of speach are really good tools. Star card might make you think "when you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are. Anything your heart desires will come to you."
You see a card with a guy laying facedown and a back full of swords and "stabbed in the back" betrayal springs to mind.
Try to link the card with something modern (or modern to you)... Does the strength card remind you or dorethy mot afraid to chastize the cowardly lion?
The Emperor makes me think of the song "everybody wants to rule the world" by tears for fears which then reminds me of Steve jobs. (Because they used the song in a tv movie about him)

I have watched quite a few learning to read Tarot card videos and read some books, but I think the tip to look at the movement and lack of moment in the cards is excellent. Even though I have been using Oracle cards for about 6 years or so, I never wanted to try Tarot because it seemed TOO complicated. I've always tried to tune into the card through my intuition when reading any type of cards, though. Tarot is quickly becoming my favorite now! Thanks :)

Omg, me too. With all this planet upheaval and new beginnings I felt so pushed to start writing again, it was always my biggest talent. It’s super terrifying though because I’d have to go all in and it would be the income for myself and two teenagers. I’ve used the cards to help with my confidence for sure though.

For how my mind works, I find this more helpful than some other videos I just watched. Especially pointing out that the suits, numbers within a suite, etc. are ways to categorize themes within the deck. Thank you for these tips!!

I have been reading tarot for years. I complied a huge notebook with all kinds of notes and information on the symbols. I felt that I needed to know everything about the card to give a more informative reading. I need to make it a little more simpler

If you have more than one tarot deck, do this with two at the same time. For example, I am using my rider waite tarot cards as well as my everyday witch tarot and it is really helpful to lay down the same suit from two different decks. It really helps you to find what connects them and what sets them apart, like why you might be drawn to one deck is because the same card will have a different take on a meaning that judt might not make sense in another deck if that makes sense.

Thank you. Everyone learns differently and I've learned to watch many different RUclips videos on a subject and one will strike a chord with me.... that was yours. I have a suggestion for the writing in the cards, I got 250 blank cards to make my own deck for $20. Obviously having a ton of extra I was able to make a set with cheat notes on them just to practice and read flash card myself.. I actually printed and glued full meaning and wrote my own notes As well. Thanks for the idea it helped me big time.

I've been doing flash cards and filling them in abc order, so when the cards fly out, I would pull the flash card for that particular card for the key information and set it by the original card to help me read it better. On my flash cards, I would write the key definition for upright or reverse.

I love what you share here Kate. Although I have been practicing for several months now I find myself heavily relying on my various books and a wonderful app Galaxy Tarot on my phone for interpretations. I like the idea of creating a story, relaying to my life experience. All the tips are good and I agree about writing on the cards, just seems not right. My very first deck I got years ago was the Starter Tarot and the meanings are written on them. Thanx again for sharing your wisdom of the cards

I started by learning about each suit. Then memorizing the minor arcana. Ultimately you have to go beyond that by experiencing each card but without some basic knowledge of the card I found the scene on the card not always helpful. The Major cards are much more important to experience. You shouldn't memorize those.

Until you go beyond juts memorizing a system of correspondence, expect Tarot to remain a boring "Pick a card; any card."
I like how the one kneeling person is flinching as if it is death itself that hurts.
The suits are as Psalm 23.
The Five of Pentacles can also mean wealthy at the cost of fairness.
The Nine of Pentacles is like being wealthy and productive for what is around you.
Four is like ready for it from whatever side.
Tarot doesn't seem to have any unique meanings.
Yes, symbolic experience is mostly about the person's own life.
Marking out a makeshift deck to write identifying factors might be a better idea.
