There you go, forgot another item for your truck ! A sweeping brush, just for days like this, to remove the snow off machines. Still loving the video's mate.
I'm happy to see that you've got the new truck in service, Warren. Looks like a capable rig. Hopefully business has picked up and you're through the down time. Lots of us out here are cheering for you! You're one of the good guys, Brother.
A quick way to figure out 135 is to remember the 60/45 method of counting! 360 is a complete circle. 180 is half a circle. 90 is a quarter circle! 45 is an eighth. The flats of a nut are 60 degrees! The difference between those flats, the points, are 30 degrees! The difference between two points, is 60, so the middle of the flat would be 30. By adding or subtracting, those basics, you can almost figure out any number of degrees pretty easily! I saw the in frame Cummings rebuild, and you used the 60 degree nut flats in that one! Just keep them all in mind, and you can hit the points of a compass, very closely. You can easily figure down to 15 degrees with a fair bit of accuracy, with a screwdriver tip, and a paint pen!
I bought a used excavator before all the CPU crap...One thing I know is ya can’t make the dam thing fail until it’s digging and grunting....I had more hydraulic problems than I could keep up with. Short story, my mechanic recommended draining and flushing the hydraulic system. I didn’t want to do that because of the money and down time...After completely flushing and cleaning the reservoir, cooler, empty the cylinders ect.....I couldn’t believe the shit that was in the system......I’ll say after that, I was able to dig and make money...I can’t imagine owning a computer controlled piece of construction equipment....Now I have a old service truck that doesn’t recognize the new parts I installed. The truck can’t pass inspection...The new camera is like we’re standing next to you...Thanks for another great video...
Warren good to see you are using your new service truck. To bad your other one let you down but it good that you had this one to fall back on. Looks good and keep the videos coming they are very interesting. Work Safe and take care of yourself.
I have a feeling that you talk to yourself just about as much without the camera on, as you do when its on. Keep the camera on and keep chatting. Thank You! Mark S. PS: I am a field mechanic on air compressors, electric motors and motor controls.
It's good to record what your doing imo. It's a cya thing and also they can see just how hard a man has to work on that equipment. So just to see how and what you all have to do like the little things, snow removal, fighting the mud, rain and heat all the while their sitting in a office counting beans.
I have been running my own shop for 6 months now. I bought a snapon modis (vehcile scan tool) older one that has a 4 channel lab scope for about 500 bucks. Invaluable. Far as scopes go though pico has the market cornered. So much you can do with a scope. Relative compression test an engine and do some math and get a PSI per cylinder and never pull a spark or glow plug.
Since they wore down the magnet tip on the sensor, your 135 degrees will be off some. That means your guess at how far to turn might be better than you think. Of course breaking the wire is an odd fix. LOL Must default to throttle position or a set value, so it still will work. Now all you need to add to the truck is a mounted umbrella shade on the back for rain and snow.
Warren, you are dead on with the RPM sensor. I worked on a smaller POS Hyundai with a 4 BT Cummins and the damn threads were worn/loose for the sensor so when you tightened the lock nut it opened up the clearance between the flywheel and gave intermittent signal loss. There was an inspection hole on the engine adapter that I was able to use a brass feeler gauge and set it to 18 thousands and it worked perfectly. The falling on it's face bit may be the plastic fuel strainer in the tank. I had one that had about 50% of the little perforated holes clogged up with some weird hairy looking algae that only had symptoms under a full load when it was hot. If you restricted the fuel return line the symptoms went away. I replaced the strainer, cleaned the tank, and treated their fuel storage tank to fix the issue.
had a rpm cam sensor signal fail from metal dust chips on magnet sending false signal to CPU throwing machine into a lock up mode JLG boom lift CAT motor.Previous Owner / Dealer wasted thousand s on it gave up I fixed runs perfectly now. Nice show Thanks
Hello there. You don't see so many small Hyundai diggers. About 13 to 45 ton are the one's you see here in the UK and they have Cummins diesel engines.
i wonder if the main bearings are just slightly on the loose side and the crank under load is shifting up slightly and the flywheel impacting the sensor.. it just a thought. do your volt meters have a MIN/MAX function to assist you in monitoring current or voltage while you move the controls. hint.. my multimeter leads have 28 feet of wire.. 16 on one and 12 on the other. so i can reach batteries in the trunk while working up front.. you might stick a piece of hose on the sensor above the lock nut and put run the wire in a loop down to it and then tape and zip tie it with a double looped zip tie.. so the wire coming out the end of the sensor is not flopping around.. i could not tell to see if there is enough to solder the wire back on the sensor.. also.. @21:36 the unconnected sensor in the head. is that a coolant temp sensor for the computer or the gauge.. is that what the extra wire down in the engine speed sensor harness was for.. i wonder if that sensor was unplugged because it might be damaged when the head gasket blew and perhaps overheated the engine.. just thoughts from afar.
Dude, get a Redmax EBZ 8500 leaf blower, stand on the back of your truck, and blow all that snow off easily (the kind you encountered here) if it's been froze over hard shell it won't work but medium to light fluff will move easily. The 8500 is super strong. I use it to clear my cars and driveway 75% of the time.
When customers say their machine looses hydraulic "power" I ask them do they mean (lifting force) or speed (pump not going into stroke). Sometimes that help for troubleshooting intermittent problems.

Bottom that mag pick up out on a tooth then back it out 3/4 of a turn... - I made a gillion dollars flying around Alaska working on generators - if metal flakes get on the end and short out the magnet it will put out some crazy signals to the computer .. on high time machines the starter will knock some metal off the flywheel and it will wind up on that magnet...
How is the Freightliner versus the 4x6 Ford service truck in snow or mountain roads? I remember you saying you had a locking differential, but the front axle is still unpowered. I would imagine the much larger tires help when offroad in a field or logging road.
