  • Listening to Miles Davis' groundbreaking album "A Kind of Blue", what strikes many people is the simplicity of it, the art, the expression, the sound. It's about playing with phrasing, expression, and musicality.
It's not about how many notes you can play in a given time-frame...
Here then is my take on it - with a couple of scales, which are musicians' tools, one can start to create. Don't go up and down scales all the time when improvising - it's using notes from the scale to create things, like gaps in 3rds, 4ths, etc., and of course rhythmic content, two bar phrases, gaps, all the stuff that listening to this album will give you...

“Kind of Blues” was my ‘pre-Internet’ gateway to modes. Great stuff as usual, Sir! Thank you.👍

Great advice. I can now add the G pentatonic scale next time I’m practicing. Thanks Dan as always.

Like your content Dan: so cool, so laid back. Great lesson of restraint ! 👍🏻
