  • Here's Autumn Leaves, a famous jazz standard, but with simple elements of improvising introduced. Many jazz standards are diatonic, that is the chords within them conform to the overall key. Autumn Leaves is originally in E minor, but here is the more jazz gig key of G minor.
Try the blues scale in G - it's a great tune for blues players who want to be able to play over jazz changes - we must always remember that jazz came from blues!

Extremely insightful, Dan! I catch myself being too “noty” often. Thank you.

Very cool! I love this. This is something I might be able to play. That's a fun bass line to play.

Great stuff as always Dan. But of course Eva Cassidy re-wrote the book with her version of Autumn Leaves, as she did with many others. Would love to hear your take on some of her versions.

Totally - I think I’ll do a video about many arrangements of one song...

Great video as usual! Did you produce the track or obtain smf? I’ve been wanting to amass a collection of nice (non-cheesy) back tracks for solo guitar. Some blues, some jazz, and even some chill pop tunes in high quality tracks (I normally never use tracks of any sort) to pick up some cafè and restaurant gigs. Ya know? …. Suit and tie, in a discreet corner, with a tiny rig and my classiest hollow body guitar. Any ideas or resources for tracks like that?
I’m going to throw you a $ tip for your last bit of advice 👍🏼. Cheers

Hi there and thank you for your donation! The track is on the app iRealPro, which is available for iOS and Android. It’s the gypsy jazz plugin. iReal has been a real savior for me over lockdown as I’ve continued with solo gigs outside (hospitals, houses, care homes, etc.) and there are some great styles there. Some of the rock and pop ones are a little cheesy, but it’s possible to make it work...
I think working with tracks is okay. There are people who absolutely won’t use them as it cheats another musician out of work, but in my view, a solo gig with tracks is fine...
No one has ever commented negatively on my backing tracks, but there is also the app “Genius Jam tracks” which is a cut about iReal in sounds and musical feel - give that a go!

@@DanBakerMusic thanks for the reply. I really loathe tracks for any solo singing gig. They miss the organic soulful expression that is at the heart of the art form for me as a singer. The only instance, as I stated I would use sparsely produced tracks is to do a solo guitar act with. I dig the “Soft Drummer” app as far as percussion. I’m looking for tracks that have a “barely there” quality. If you have any further suggestions I’d love to hear them. I will check out the apps you mentioned! Thanks again for all you do👍🏼
