Hey! I'm new to animating on photoshop but around 6:04 you talk about the limitations of photoshop and how it's harder to add animations on top of already existing ones because of the layers and frames. I just want to suggest converting your frame animations to video timeline! You can do this by clicking the three lined button on the top right of your animation window and selecting "convert to video timeline". It's similar to Adobe Premiere Pro in the sense you can layer different animations. So far, that's helped me a lot, but it can be a problem if you color in your animations & you want specific things to be in front of/behind (or inside) other animations layers. It's my first year going to early college for graphic design and our unit right now is animation in photoshop & premiere pro, so this video helped a lot!! Thanks so much :DD
Absolutely, you can do that, but at least in my version of the software if you turn it into a video timeline, each new frame created is 5sec long by default, so it becomes too much of a pain to resize each new frame. I do agree video timeline is better to add colors, backgrounds, various elements etc, but i only do it at the very last second, and usually I would even draw animations on different canvases and then fit them together in premiere pro
@@D3troisVarietyChannel Ohh yeah it could be the differences in versions! I think I'm running on the 2021 version and it will only convert the amount of frames you've made on the frame animations to video time line (I'm bad at explaining, but like I made a 2 framed animation and when I converted it, it gave me 2fps on the video timeline!). Also, drawing animations on different canvases sounds so fun! I feel like I'd mess a canvas up and not realize until I converted it, but that is such a cool way to animate! I never considered doing that before :)) I have a project due in a month where I have to make a 3 minute animation and it's only my second or third time drawing each frame so I'm super nervous that I'm in over my head with the amount of things I want to happen in it, but your video really helped me feel more confident to get started, so thanks so much!!
@@D3troisVarietyChannel I have not! The program I used to animate with was Flash back in the day.. It's been at least a decade since I've animated anything!
LOL, this video’s Detrois avatar 😆 I’ve been using Photoshop since I was like 13 😅😂 Never knew you could make animations in it! You can also select a group in the layers box and press ctrl or cmd and ‘J’ to duplicate the layer or group! 😆😆 Your face cracks me up every time it pops into the video 4:12. Very cool animation! 🙌
the only issue I have with animation in ps is the program seems to move objects/layers around on their own, leading me to re orient them every time I make a new frame.
Yes this can happen, I don't know why though. It's cool that Ps has the possibility of making animations, but I don't think it's the best program at all to do so
I just drew the different frames that would correspond to a rotation. If it helps, you can take a video of something turning and then move frame by frame to see what it looks like
Hello, i need some help. When i have drawn on the first keyframe and then try to change something on the same layer but one keyframe ahead it changes that thing for the whole layer/keyframes. Could you tell me the problem please? :))
So the way it works is that you need to duplicate the layer and work on the copy. If you change the same layer, the change will apply to all the keyframes for which the layer is visible. Did it help ? :)
I'm so glad it helped you :) there are other great tutorials out there that might go into more detail but now you can already start! Everybody should try to animate, it's fun
It's a basic textured brush for inking. I just downloaded a free inking brush I liked (it's only called 'Inking 25 Hard'), turned the opacity 100% and activated the size/pressure. This one is an ellipse but you can use any simple shape.
Yes, it actually is... Basically to change the UI I would need to completely reinstall the program (which is a problem with Adobe since it's an old version and I can't update it) I wish I could have done the video with an English UI
I am here from Reddit. Nice video. I really like it. I make short animations using another software but have bad drawing skills :( A new subscriber here!
oh cmon you can understand some words like edit , image , filter , 3d , selection etc its not that difficult to understand the software he is using . b4 you come at me no i don't speak French nor am i a native speaker

This is so awesome and informative, good job man!
Thank you so much! Have you ever used photoshop to animate before?

great tutorial and art! thank you :)

Gotta admit I had no idea what kind of avatar I wanted x)
Ctrl-J, that will be so useful, awesome!

i like the animation. thanks
Please, how were you turning the different sides of the book as you were drawing? Thanks.

Thanks Hi!
"Great" seems like a strong term
your video helped a lot. congrats for the animation and for the tutorial.
Thank you! Very nice to hear

Super 👌
Very cool!

Great to see your video! Good job!
Thanks
Great video. Found you on the reddit post.
Heyy thank you!
Great video! I was wondering what kind of brush you use for drawing in this vid
It's a basic textured brush for inking. I just downloaded a free inking brush I liked (it's only called 'Inking 25 Hard'), turned the opacity 100% and activated the size/pressure. This one is an ellipse but you can use any simple shape.

Is it really that hard to, for the duration of the recording, change the UI language to match the target audience?
Yes, it actually is... Basically to change the UI I would need to completely reinstall the program (which is a problem with Adobe since it's an old version and I can't update it)
I wish I could have done the video with an English UI
How do I open the frame panel? It doesen’t show up when I click on “movement”
Edit: nvm I fixed it
Sorry I didn't see your comment in time. Glad you fixed it :)
how did you fix the problem?
I am sorry I don't think I can help, but maybe try poking around the 'windows' or 'view' setups at the top of the screen?
Now i need to figure out if PS Element can do that.
i really need help because i do not know what tab you use?
please reply to me anyone who knows this
What do you mean by tab ?
no such option like export in mp4 tho (CS6)
I don't use CS6 but I think now there is an option in 'File/Export/Render video' that you can use!
there is no movement option in CC 2015.
Sorry I don't use other versions than the one in the video

Oh? I don't know them, I'll check it out !
This is a cool video, but the music is atrocious.
Photoshop Time line is really not good
It's enough for a first approach to frame by frame animation but it is not optimized
Good lord, that music is annoying.
