Just upgraded from 7 to 13. So far my impressions are: •the screen is genuinely nice to look at, even when locked - blacks are black, whites are white - OLED does wonders; •the battery is miles ahead of what i suffered on 7 - i’m pretty sure i could go, as Marques said in the video, for two days without charging; •the sound is loud and good. I’m not a sound expert, so i haven’t got much to say. •the slight buttons’ shift seems to be more comfortable (i have used 11 for a month and remember the need of having to reach for the power button); •the cameras - they’re good for what they are, i guess. The reason i’m saying this is because i’ve been using mirrorless and DSLR cameras for the last five years and my idea of a good quality picture is formed/influenced by them. •the power - i don’t really do anything requiring power - gaming etc - so can’t comment. But A15 chip is something even 12pro max is lacking. So there’s that. In conclusion: would i recommend this phone? Absolutely. If you don’t want to spend 1000$ and want a good phone - this is a pretty good choice. I would go as far as calling it “fantastic”. Thanks, for your attention. Update (2 august 2022): Guys, thank you all for the wholesome thread we made here, it’s really cool and i feel like i’ve started something positive (even tho we’re somewhat engaged in consumerism😆). But i’ve got slightly bad news: i broke my phone😁. Not completely, just the back glass. I’ve no idea how it happened, one day i look at it and it’s in pieces. It was under a case too. I guess that face-first fall from skateboard did it haha. Anyway, doesn’t really bother me - 99% of the time i’m looking at the screen. UPDATE 24.11.2022: i’ve recently updated to iOS 16.1.1 and i’ve got bad news - the battery took a big hit. I don’t know why, but it drains significantly quicker. It’s really sad, because battery was one of the biggest pro’s of this (non “pro”..) phone. 😭🫡 Update 1.1.2023: battery health is 90%. Update: June 1 2023. It’s rather dire, i’m afraid. Which is why i was kind of reluctant to write an update. I didn’t want to ruin this positive imagine i inadvertently created. But, alas, i must. Here goes it. Either due to my unhealthy overuse or inherent flaw with the battery, - it decreased immensely (in quality). To the point of having to carry around a charger or power bank everywhere, because otherwise it would suddenly shut down. It was unpredictable and unreliable. The battery damage was so great that it bloated and lifted the screen on one side.. I tried to live with it for a while, but it wasn’t manageable. So i went and did the inevitable: replaced the battery for a new one. P.S. I suspect this is the fate of many iPhones, the sudden and or accelerated deterioration in the battery department over time. Does this mean iPhone is a bad choice? I guess it depends on the person, but as to me, so far, i’m not even thinking of going to Android. Because i would choose deterioration of battery over deterioration in user experience.
I still have an XS and am still super happy with it. I love seeing the new iPhones come out and the new features, but honestly, there hasn’t been any reason good enough for me to upgrade to a newer iPhone since the X/XS era. Not a bad thing, just interesting!
As someone who has a 13 pro max, trust me, it’s nothing you need to rush out and buy. It’s a great phone, but if you have a X or newer, it will feel almost identical. The 120hz display is the only thing that’s a decent new thing added but you get used to it quick.
Just got the 13 and it is hands down the best phone I’ve ever had the pleasure of using. The style along with the beautiful green color is like using a piece of art as a phone .
@@namata305 I was on the 11 and the 10 before that. The 11 was honestly a downgrade from the X. The Camera was weak, screen was lcd instead of OLED and wasn’t as snappy as the 13 or even 10 for that matter.
Same, or at least that’s what I plan on doing. I had an iPhone 6s and now I have a 12 mini. The reason I upgraded was the storage, so I’ll probably even keep this one longer.
Im about to do the same, had this xr for over 3 years now and it’s been a menace, dropped it countless times on tile floors and concrete without a case and not a single crack. One of the main reason Im upgrading is for the battery, it is just so drained at this point 😅

I learned something new today. Yes, I upgraded from 1st Gen iPhone SE (128GB) from 2017 to the iPhone 13 Pro (1TB). What a treat and joy to constantly fine new features and shortcuts to this wonderful little device. Nice video!
Started with an iPhone 6, jumped straight to XR and pretty excited for the switch to iPhone 13. Agreed, no need to change every year if cannot afford it.
So I’m upgrading from my dinosaur of a phone, the iPhone 6s. It’s finally giving out, but has served me well. I’ll be getting the iPhone 13, and I feel like I’m not going to know what to do with it because it’s so much more advanced, lol. Looking forward to enjoying better battery life, and the new camera. Thanks for the review, was very helpful!
The experience is not that different from a 6s. It’s the lack of a home button that will take some time to get used to. Otherwise the OS is no different…
@@rizahki plus the higher refresh rate on the display is gonna absolutely blow his mind. everyone saying it’s “pretty much the same as the 6s” is just mad they can’t upgrade themselves 😂😂 i’ll never understand haters. getting the 13 pro max (upgraded from a 12 pro max) on the 22nd this month and i’m purely upgrading just for the cinematic video mode and the higher refresh rate + brighter display. even with my 12 pro max whenever it’s really bright and sunny outside i struggle looking at the screen so this will make a world of a difference to me.
I came from 7 to 13, after almost 3 weeks of using, I feel it’s a nice upgrade. The camera quality is excellent, the screen is much nicer to look at. I would like to recommend this phone with anyone who is upgrading their phone from 8 to lower version.
@@patrickredmond4130 so far so good. I unplugged it at 7 am, and need to recharge it at 9-10pm (battery in 20%) And Im still using my 5 watts power brick, but sometimes I used the 18 watts power brick too.
I went a full 3 days once on my iPhone 13 had mine since March and I’ve very impressed as my battery capacity is still sitting on 100 battery capacity and cinematic mode is really cool definitely a step up from the 12 but looking forward to seeing if the 14 has any major changes
For me iPhone 11 to the 13 was a big overall improvement, everything looks clearer and sharper and the Color’s have more pop to them , blacks have different shades , even the speaker is louder and clearer on max volume

it’s a relief to hear someone finally tell everyone that there’s always someone with a 2-3 year old phone that is looking up upgrade.. I swear if you listen to most people, you’d swear that wasn’t the case!
I have had an iPhone 6s since 2015 and so has my friend & we're both upgraded to the iPhone 13 mini. The iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 6s are literally basically the exact same size phone - I am going to be telling everyone I know who has an iPhone 6s that now is the time, this is the year to upgrade.

I just upgraded from the XR a few days ago and I’m absolutely in love with it! Lighter sleeker and the quality in color and definition of picture and videos is beyond what I expected.
I jumped from the 2nd Gen SE to the 13 and MAN, i never realized how much i missed out on lol. I usually humble myself and stick to what works as opposed to the best on the market but decided to treat myself to something nice and I’m glad i did. Such a big jump in every aspect. I too have had an iPhone 6s since 2015 & I already have my new iPhone 13 mini. For all the iPhone 6s users out there, the new iPhone 13 mini is literally almost the exact same size as the iPhone 6s. I think the fact that the iPhone 6s lasted for many people for 6 years and that Apple is even going to give it iOS 15 is a testament to how good the iPhone 6s was.

Upgraded from iPhone 7 to iPhone 13 It’s a huge leap in performance, battery life, cameras, day-to-day usage.. Getting 7-8 hours of screen on time (note: I’m not a gamer, use it for calls, texting and taking photos/videos here & there) Low light photography is great Display is sharp & crisp And it’s an iPhone so everything just works….! Great product by Apple
This is what I been saying when everyone says “that phone looks the same as iPhone 12”. Yeah it’s not a major upgrade from 12 to 13 but for people like myself who went from iPhone 4 to iPhone 6 to iPhone XS Max and now upgrading to iPhone 13, they all are big upgrades.
@@bandoothaguru_3373 I've yet to see anything that makes me want to upgrade. the Xs runs as smooth as the day I got it, I use it for social media, GPS/maps in my car and some email/admin stuff, that's about it. I take maybe 5 photos with it per year so any camera upgrade stuff I'm not that interested in
Went from the 7 to the 13. The phone calls are awesome. I used to hate talking on the phone to anyone because I’m hard of hearing and speaker phone would always distort the sound as well. Now I have no problem talking on the phone with 13 because it sounds like I’m in the same room as the person… really clear awesome sound.
It’s probably because of 5G voice quality on regular telephone calls, my iPhone 6 Plus sounded like shit on speaker as well because of 3G but my iPhone 13 pro max is awesome lol
Coming from years of fingerprint readers, and being super skeptical of FaceID as my main authentication method, I actually love it and find it more fluid.
For an old guy like me, your tech videos are the best out there. Informative and not so over the top techie that I get lost. Keep up the good work and I look forward to future postings. JD
@@jamesawwyea I really enjoy it! The camera is insane, especially the low light abilities. Really really really really clutch in low light. Very crisp photos. And, runs fast. My only complaint is that it feels so big in my hands, I sometimes lose my grip, but that’s just me not used to it. Battery is also crazy, it usually lasts me all day from 9am to midnight with regular yse
This is a nice review! I currently have an iPhone 7 and I just bought the 13 (no review or anything before hand) I saw a lot of people saying I might as well just get the 12 cause it’s basically the same phone but I was looking at prices and the 12 is only 20 dollars cheaper than the 13 so I spent the extra 20 bucks on the newer model cause it just made sense. I am excited to get an update.
It feels like that end part when he read off the screen of the pro was meant to have some b-roll (I only noticed because of the great Skillshare where he explained his video process)
In case anyone hasn't seen the Skillshare. MKBHD says that he writes out the scripts to all of these videos, then highlights the parts he has to memorize and say to the camera, and separates them from the parts that have B-Roll (videos of the phone close up, etc). He can literally read the B-Roll parts as the audio is just what is being used... Like it seems was accidentally done here 😂
I'm an android user, and I have never had an iPhone before. I've been thinking about getting one, and these reviews really help me to make my decision easier.
Lifetime Samsung user here typing on my first iphone (13) I just got last week, so far so good and since the 13 still had a sim card slot swapping phones was instant after my data was transferred over
I decided to gamble and upgrade from my iPhone 11 to the iPhone 13. And while I did not expect a huge upgrade, I was pleasantly surprised as to how substantial the upgrade actually was. From switching from an LCD screen to OLED to the new camera updates, the increase in storage capacity, longer battery life, and the beautiful squared-edge design, I do not have any regrets about upgrading even from a two-year-old iPhone, which was already amazing in every way.
I went from a 8 to the 13 mini, great great phone. Thought I would miss the button but honestly I got fully used to it like after a week, so much faster, fantastic camera, perfect size and the screen is great too. Base storage is also 128 which is alot. Oh the battery is also great
15:47 i think it should be voice over / broll moment. Maybe yes, maybe not. Because the transition seems odd. By the way always superb and nice review bro. Peace from Malaysia
I still have my 13 mini that I got about a month after launch - sitting at 95% battery life. As a woman with smaller hands and fairly weak wrists (lol), this really is the best iPhone for me. I'm sad they've discontinued the minis, but I plan to keep this phone for as long as I can. :)

I think the iPhone 13 is probably my favorite iPhone to come out since the 7. I’m really glad they squared up again. I just got the iOS 16 beta and I’m loving the phone even more. I’m falling in love with apple products all over again 🥰
To share my personal experience with the pro max version: I went 48 hrs with the phone without a charger and it survive with 18% of battery left, not full brightness or anything, just regular use and in my opinion it’s really great for a change
I upgrade phones more often then I care to admit. Most recently I went from a 12 Pro to a S21 Ultra and was memerized by the high refresh rate screen but I quickly realized despite being a lifelong android user, I missed most aspects of the simple iphone and all the things I thought I cared about on Android I didn't hardly ever use. I've now ordered the 13 Pro which is the one feature I've wanted to see in Iphones and now hopefully I'll keep this one atleast two years.
I just got iPhone 13 for Christmas after having android for several years and I’m honestly soo happy for this amazing phone. It’s soo much smooth, way smoother than all my other phones I’ve had. It fits my hands so much and it’s nice to hold. It works way faster than my Samsung I had before this IPhone. If you want to switch from android to IPhone, I 100% recommend. Very good phone

To be completely honest…I just upgraded from an iPhone 7 Plus and I’m already at shock and awe on how well the phone responds, the battery life and of course the refresh rate. I was going from my 7 plus randomly freezing and closing apps at 32 GBs whereas I love the 128GB upgrade and how well lit the phone is. Also the first thing I did when I purchased the 13 was def a case and screen protector. Highly satisfied here👍🏽
Just upgraded from a 6s to the 13. It’s a lots sharper and the imaging is way more rich, all videos look so much better than before. The camera is awesome and nighttime makes helps so much. 10/10
Marques hit it on the head here. I upgraded from a regular 11 to the 13 mini, and it’s just a way better phone. Still the basic UI experience you always get from an iPhone, just sharper, clearer, faster, with better battery life, screen, and cameras. T-Mobile was practically giving them away with a tech upgrade, so it was definitely time.
@@CurtisL8.3066 Mini is the shit, I have a 13 pro max on order but got to play around with the Mini and it's soooo good. Something about the size just clicks so well. I hope apple realizes that with correct advertising, it's a really good phone to keep manufacturing.
I had the XS Max, yesterday I had to upgrade. My last iPhone served me well. I was still taking good pictures, look up internet items, watch movies, use GPS. It was becoming glitchy. At AT&T I was treated well. I asked many questions and almost went with a 12 Pro Max. After comparing that iPhone to a iPhone 13. I was noticing the difference in performance and Picture quality. Only color they had was Midnight and the light makes the case have Dark blue tinge to it. Being the 6.1” screen size is lighter than what I had. The Cinamatic mode is impressive and works. For all of us that know all the way back to the 6S had 4K recording. What the jump to the 13 is the faster processing that I can see. Oled screen even on the non pro models makes the screen so vibrant.
Just got an iPhone 13 last week in pink, LOVE MY 13! Definitely recommend, upgraded from an iPhone 11 and the screen is so beautiful and the battery is soooo better and the camera!
Your intro was dope because it basically legitimized and made these yearly reviews feel more real. It’s easy to kind of just go about these as “business as usual” not acknowledging how silly it can be to get excited and OMG go crazy over the new phone when we know they generally do the same thing. Preciate the authenticity.
that was such a brilliant intro, to describe the adoption and saturation of the market in a really cool way. coming from an 11 pro I am definitely into the 13!
year over year updates on toyota cars are very minor unless it’s a redesign year. i don’t know who in their right mind would do it. the 2021 rav4 i drive is almost the same as the 2020, if probably not the same.
I'm upgrading from the 8 and couldn't be more excited! The jump in video quality alone is something I'm looking forward to. I've had mine for about four years :)
My iPhone history is 4S, 6S, 8 Plus… and now the 13. So, definitely not an annual event. The 6 and 8 were handed down to my sons, so they got a couple three more years of use. Thanks for the solid review (and the Zack cameo!). It was very helpful. Love your channel!
I’ve been an android user all my life. But two month ago I decided to change and I finally got the iPhone 13. I’ve preferred to spend a little more money and get the last model and it turned out great.
i just went from the blue xr to the black 13 and, well the differences are immaculate. i had the xr for three years, it started getting slow, freezing, crashing and the camera was amazing at first but with time it felt like it went down..? the battery was horrible! i don’t have the type of money like all of these influencers do to get a brand new phone every single year. this was a huge upgrade to me in my opinion because there’s more features that the XR didn’t have in my opinion. ( like the two cameras ) i wanted a nice camera on my phone if im gonna upgrade because why spend all that money for a nice phone but a crappy camera? i love the fact you can pick the zoom feature and the way you wanna have your pictures. the different options, the speed on the 13 is so great, i don’t feel like i gotta worry about my phone crashing 10 times a day! i would 10000% recommend people with the xr and below should upgrade!
Got the mini and I love it. First iPhone since the SE that fits into basically every pocket with everything I could ever ask for in a phone (except 120 Hz)
I have the iPhone 12 mini and I’m still happy with it. The battery isn’t as bad as everyone thinks it is. As long as you’re not on it 24/7 it’ll get you through the day easy. And when the time comes I’ll just replace the battery for $65 instead of upgrading for $700 lol.
I guess it is time for me to move on from SE 2015... It still works very well with iOS15, just battery is so weak. Mini is closest to it, still a bit heavier and larger, and have that camera sticking out (ruins the looks little bit). Otherwise seems great. How's size difference for you after some time?
The mini is great but my only problem with it is that certain apps and websites just don't look good with the aspect ratio of the phone, if that could have been fixed and i had 120hz on the mini then it would be perfect I wish they opted for 5.8" as the smaller size phone which will be a middleway between the mini and the normal iphone
never thought of it but it totally makes sense to record the b-roll audio in exactly the same way you record the video, to make it totally seamless. you can always tell when someone *doesn't* do this because something will sound slightly off - different acoustics, or even the voice itself can sound different because maybe you're recording late in the day versus just after waking up.

@@hamster_96 1.5 hrs extra is an arbitrary claim by Apple and really means nothing to the end user until you test it for yourself. It could be an extra 4-5 hrs in your usage. It also could be an extra half hour or maybe even 2 hours worse (very unlikely but you get my point)
as someone with an iphone eight, that has now been in non-stop use for over 4 years, super excited to get my hands on the 13 and to see the major improvement between them
I’m so glad I upgraded because I used to have an iPhone 6 and I could literally see the battery drain by one every 30 seconds or so even when I was just looking at the Lock Screen
Thanks Marques, This video persuaded me to use Apple and wow I am impressed. For starters, the camera cannot be beaten by any other smartphone brand, the battery life is impeccable; lasts me the whole day, and everything about the phone proves that for under £1000, you are getting easily the best phone on the market! ❤
I like hearing that portion in the beginning. It’s good to think sustainably and I think six years now-days is a good amount to use a device for. Even better if the components inside get recycled! I will never fan-boy for a company l, but I do like some of Apple’s movements - notably their recycling program, how they’re using more and more recycled products in their new devices, and their push to using renewable energy. If they could just make them more repairable… on the flip side, a battery replacement costs far less than a new phone!
Apple doesn't care about sustainability. They make it so you can't repair your devices at a reasonable price so you buy a new phone. And they also use the lightning port. If they switched to usb c, everyone could just have one charger
@@smasheduptoaster9186 I’m not the biggest fan of their anti-repair schemes, but right-to-repair should help. However, if you buy most mid- to high-end phone these days, you’re not going to be able to repair them yourself. Between water-resistance, needing to solder most everything to a single or multiple boards, complex cameras, etc., you, the consumer, are not repairing your own device (unless you’re an enthusiast to repairs and have higher-end equipment). So, as long as Apple gives professional repair shops and repair enthusiasts the ability to repair devices, I’ll be happy. Even the best attempts to make a friendly-to-repair device, like Fair Phone, it’s running a mid/low end chip, how long will it get security and software updates, and there’s no water resistance. If those aren’t deal-breakers, then awesome. If you get six years out of a device and then bring it to a proper electronics recycling company, that sounds fairly sustainable to me. How many people are running an older-than-6-year phone? How many companies are running off all renewable energy? How many companies use recycled tin, aluminum, tungsten, etc. for their devices? To be clear: I’m not fan-boying. I just think you have to look at a wider picture than repair. No company will look out for you - not even the people who make the Fair Phone. You just have to choose the one that will work best for your circumstances. Edit: by repair, I mean consumer repair. I’m all for right to repair
@@Altoseb one charger for all of your devices. Phone, laptop, tablet, headphones etc. The iphone uses lightning which is not compatible with most other devices including apple's. This means you will need more than one charger instead of having one for everything.

Very true, I just upgraded to the 13 from the 6s and let me just say I’m glad I waited this long to get a new phone. This is what I wanted out of a phone, a faster phone, camera, and something I don’t have to worry about, “did I plug in my phone in the morning?!”
I’m upgrading from a 6s plus that I bought back in 2015 so yeah, I’m commenting on it as we speak, though my battery is on its last stretch, it still works. Take care of your iPhone and it will last. That being said my 13 will be here in two days 😁 beyond excited!
When he started scratching it with the level 6 pick I thought it wouldn't scratch, that would have been insane and insane marketing as well. Cameo was very fun tho
Even when I'm at home for most of the day, I only plug my phone in at night, because at the end of the day, I usually have anywhere from 40-20% left. It's honestly pretty amazing. Also when I have to be on the move for 10 hours, with school and sports, constantly checking my phoine or lisnening to stuff, it really helps to have the amazing battery. Plus, this is all while running pro-motion. Very impressive.

I literally just upgraded from iPhone 7 to iPhone 13. I am super happy. I watched some snapchats and I thought "wow so high volume, it must be max, I better turn it down a bit". Bro, it was 1/4 of max volume. The picture quality is amazing. I can see all my veins and striations when I'm taking flex photos. I spoke on the phone with my girlfriend... •the battery is miles ahead of what i suffered on 7 - i’m pretty sure i could go, as Marques said in the video, for two days without charging;
•the sound is loud and good. I’m not a sound expert, so i haven’t got much to say.
•the slight buttons’ shift seems to be more comfortable (i have used 11 for a month and remember the need of having to reach for the power button);
•the cameras - they’re good for what they are, i guess.

How’s the 13 mini battery
The mini is great but my only problem with it is that certain apps and websites just don't look good with the aspect ratio of the phone, if that could have been fixed and i had 120hz on the mini then it would be perfect
I wish they opted for 5.8" as the smaller size phone which will be a middleway between the mini and the normal iphone
Anyone else in 2024?
Yes
Yep
Yep literally just got a 13
got it and hate it, returning it tomorrow
@nasbndpreda6019 how is it, I want one a lot
15:48 cool to see how he does the audio for b roll. Even if it was meant to be a b roll shot
never thought of it but it totally makes sense to record the b-roll audio in exactly the same way you record the video, to make it totally seamless. you can always tell when someone *doesn't* do this because something will sound slightly off - different acoustics, or even the voice itself can sound different because maybe you're recording late in the day versus just after waking up.
1:10-1:20 was quite literally an Apple commercial. Marques… your production quality keeps on getting better!
At this point, I’m just watching for aesthetics.

I upgrade my phone every 4 years or so, and I always check your videos lately to see wich option I take tbh. Thank you! Awesome stuff
The fact that the 13 mini has better battery life than last years iPhone 12. Good job apple!
Yup. But I adjusted settings on my 12 mini and im fine. 1.5 hr. Not a big deal to upgrade yearly. Would it be 3h, yes take my money
@@kingdeedee check out mrwhosetheboss 's battery drain comparison
You know what would be a great job? If you could simply replace the battery. :)
It’s not surprising because the display always takes up the most battery. Smaller display size on mini will improve the battery drastically.
as someone with an iphone eight, that has now been in non-stop use for over 4 years, super excited to get my hands on the 13 and to see the major improvement between them
I’d like one too
Can this iPhone, iPhone better than the previous iPhone?
Yes
It iPhones pretty good
Not really really, but yes just a little
No comma there, buddy. Fix grammar.
Sus
I’m so glad I upgraded because I used to have an iPhone 6 and I could literally see the battery drain by one every 30 seconds or so even when I was just looking at the Lock Screen
I loved the Zack cameo, that was amazing lmao I was actually thinking your work bench reminded me of his work space before his voice over came up lmao
Another wholesome production and review, so aesthetically pleasing as always. Great job
The quality of MKBHD's videos are so mesmerizing. like dam bro those shots and edits are epic.
Thanks Marques,
This video persuaded me to use Apple and wow I am impressed.
Yeah I have a 6s I’m going to Verizon tomorrow to look into getting a 13. Can’t deal with how bad my camera is compared to the new one/s.
@@smasheduptoaster9186 I have an iPhone and just one charger. Whats your point?
@@Altoseb one charger for all of your devices. Phone, laptop, tablet, headphones etc. The iphone uses lightning which is not compatible with most other devices including apple's. This means you will need more than one charger instead of having one for everything.
I still have the galaxy S8, I’m looking at the iPhone 12/13 depending on pricing OR the google pixel 6 which looks stunning and can’t wait to see the camera improvements!
I'd say wait for the pixel or maybe even the s22 , it's rumored to be released in December 2021
if you want something that is reliable and works when you want it to do. does the regular stuff and has amazing long time support, go for iphone
Yeah definitely wait for both the pixel 6 and the s22 lineup. Still rocking an S9+ here.
Upgraded from my S8+ to an S21 in May. Got it for $479 at Costco through Verizon and I didn't have to trade in my S8+!
@@Striker50_ I'd wait for the S22 ultra or Fold 4.

I literally just upgraded from iPhone 7 to iPhone 13. I am super happy. I watched some snapchats and I thought "wow so high volume, it must be max, I better turn it down a bit".
