  • A leak anywhere in the cooling system is no bueno-you’ll lose your coolant. And if your heater core has gone bad inside your vehicle, that sweet maple syrup smell gets old pretty fast.
    Enter the core bypass kit, Dorman part number 626-001!
    The first thing you need to know is that this is meant as a temporary repair, because you will lose your heater and defroster, which are required for vehicle inspection in some areas. This repair could in theory last the remainder of the vehicle. It would likely be perfect for an old farm truck or beater mud vehicle.
    The kits include fittings for 5/8 or 3/4” systems or a mix of the two, which should cover nearly every vehicle on the road. They’re held in place by OE-style constant tension clamps. This is a wonderful solution that really should have a home in every road toolbox or aging vehicle just in case-and if you forget to buy one, you can now get one of ours most places you buy auto parts and get back on the road right quick.
    We hope you like this new solution. And remember, if you need anything at all, the Dorman Technical Support team is always handy to help.

    This kit let me get my 97 VW Golf back into safe operation. Those foggy windows and ethylene glycol clouds were no fun. Actually took me longer to pull the 5/8ths plug from the bypass than the rest of the install total! Cheers mates, thanks for making it easy for me.

    I literally just did this on my Ranger this week. I also flushed out the coolant in the heater core so I don't continue smelling the coolant, now I'm flushing out the cooling system itself too. I ordered an extra one to have in my tool box but will probably be needing it in an Expedition also, definitely easier than replacing the heater cores in each vehicle.

    Hello, I just recently got a 01 sunfire that’s leaking coolant from the firewall I believe it’s the heater core? Would there be any other ways to find out for sure before I attempt a bypass

      Hi Majed, I apologize for my previous inaccurate response. To answer your question correctly- It is part number 626-001 and it is a universal kit. Attached is the link to that part. Again, I apologize for my previous reply. www.dormanproducts.com/p-137050-626-001.aspx

    Is it necessary to drain the coolant before installing one of these kits? It’s not under pressure when it’s cold, so I’m guessing not. Is that right?

    • @DormanProducts
      @DormanProducts  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hello, it only needs to be drained down to the level at which the bypass kit is installed.

    Thanks for this. So are there 2 plugs to isolate the 2 hoses that remain going through the firewall into the core itself? Should the core be flushed as part of this procedure? Thank you!

    • @dntlss

      Its pretty self explanatory,pop the hoses of the core, install this part on the hoses,they are normally 5/8 and 3/4,put the part in according to hose size, top the coolant in your radiator back up that you lost thru the core,after driving a few miles, wait til the car is cold again and recheck your coolant, add more if necessary and your done.
