Welcome to the club, buddy. I had an inkling the moment he mentioned Insomnia, and it transformed into certainty when I heard Hustle. The only thing I was confused about was why it was mentioned in a video about stuff that was almost good when I doubt it ever came close to that for obvious reasons.
Fun fact Vikavolt actually has less speed than Grubbin, and because neither of them have the ability Battery it means that ability is the only ability to be exclusive to the middle Evo. This line is silly like that
One of those examples where lore/funny takes precedent over balance. Obviously Charjabug is the only one with battery - it's literally a battery. You could also still run it with Eviolite to get some use out of it.
Aurora Veil made me realise it was an Ice type, and Insomnia set off alarm bells, but my heart SANK when I heard "Hustle". For the first time in a while I knew true fear
Also Hoopa Unbound is my single favourite Mythical - part of why I'm so hype for Z-A is it'll be my first chance to get one legit - so the fact that it sucks so bad makes me so sad
I find it funny how gamefreak didn't give vikavolt battery because it wouldn't be balanced But they proceeded to create Chi Yu that not only enables other special attackers and also nukes everything with beads of ruin
Ah yes, Gen 7, the gen where gamefreak said forget the speed tier before making Gen 8 where the common speed was at least 110. Vikavolt should've been a pseudo, like if you look at it now, it quite literally just Special Baxcalibur without the speed.
I never thought of Vikavolt being a pseudo before but now that you mention it... totally would work. 100% vikavolt got robbed. This hard-hitting, supposedly fast (according to the pokedex), and pretty late evolving (in base s/m you need to go to vast poni canyon and in usum its still blush mountain on the third island) mon that is literally a railgun deserves to be a pseudo. A route 1 bug mon being a pseudo legendary is a really cool concept, also.
It would also be a break from dragon pseudolegendaries. They peaked with the Frigibax line in making a good Ice type by basically making it an unstoppable physical attacker. Furthermore, pseudolegendaries tend to be akin to kaijus. Vikavolt, being a very freaky bug, could fit in as a kaiju. They really should have made that a pseudolegendary.
@InsertFunnyThingHere Even better, have both of those things you mentioned together, so now you have: - 100 extra base speed - A mega evolution that gives you Battery back - some other 100 extra base stats to distribute in sp atk and speed and possibly bulk (else too much sp atk and speed would be way too much) MegaVolt would go so hard.
@NuclearNecro I think Pod would be way better if First Impression also worked on enemy mons that just entered the battlefield, would make the move way more consistent to use and could make for very dope predicts on enemy switch.
Vikavolt's pokedex entries literally talk about how FAST IT IS. They gotta stop making it so that levitate mons only get levitate. Vikavolt deserves battery or speed boost!!! Or just a buff to its base speed.
The pokedex thing is really an issue with Speed not being 1-to-1 translation to the Japanese original. Vikavolt is meant to be fast but with a slow wind-up/acceleration

I find it kinda funny how emergency exit is a lacklustre ability for singles and doubles, but is an absolutely broken ability for nuzlockes, making Golisopod arguably one of the best nuzlocke Pokemon ever.
Emergency Exit is such a cool idea for Gollisopod, the idea of this powerful attacking bug going “screw it, I’m outa here” just to come back later is so cool to me, I just wish it got a buff of some kind, maybe a stat increase upon switching back in?
I get the gag that Charjabug is a literal battery so it getting battery makes sense, but god imagine if they would've given it to Vikavolt too. It's such a sad case too. Like it's cool that it's a trick room idea, but why is it so slow? On that front, I still don't understand why 90% of Alola's new roster additions have either middling or low speed
2 things. First, Golisopod would be SO MUCH BETTER if Emergency Exit activated at the end of the turn instead of instantly. It'd be a better Teleport since you can damage your opponent before being forced to switch, or even recover HP with something like Leech Life to go back to your safety line. Second, I nominate Electivire as another Pokemon that could've been much better. All GameFreak should do is give Electivire a move similar to Plasma Fists that turns normal type moves into electric, and now you have a "reliable" way of activating Motor Drive without having to depend on silly switch strategies.
I heard spikes + spin and thought "delibird?" I heard memento and dbond and thought "delibird???" I heard insomnia and hustle and thought "DELIBIRD???"
Seriously, EVERYTHING about Vikavolt says it’s fast, from its design, Pokédex entries, and Typing, but somehow, its speed is in the 40’s?! What were they smoking!
Someone once equated Vikavolt's low speed stat to its attacks charging like a railgun- It can manoeuvre quickly like in the Pokedex, but the giant electric blasts take a minute to build up. Thematically cool, mechanically unfortunate. That's why I think Analytic would be a fun alternate ability. It'd be worthless in Trick Room, but I think it's funny to lean further into how slow vika is and let it go full death-ray-mode.
Golisopod just need another ability (realistically it would be swarm) and it woild be great. Like it has strong bug move, stab water, strong sucker punch, sword dance, etc.
attacking movepool + spikes alone was enough for me to know it was delibird, abilities and support moves just further confirmed it was delibird i was smiling the whole time
The funniest thing about Delibird is that one of its normal Abilities is Vital Spirit. Doesn't seem that odd? Well, it's Hidden Ability is _Insomnia._ They could have buffed it in Gen 5 to have at least something going for it, but instead, _they gave it a reskin of an Ability it already had._ A Delibird evolution is needed, pronto. Iron Bundle is something, but it isn't properly related to actual Delibird.
The Delibird bit was hilarious because I really did think about it, I paused and after a minute or two trying to think who thefuck had this move pool and just figured u were somehow making this about smeargle lmao
I believe in Vikavolt, in VGC at least. He underspeeds most meta threats in trick room, has great offensive coverage, and can use throat spray with bug buzz to enhance its already absurd special attack. With bulky slow volt switch and other tech like parabolic charge, I think he could legit get a lot of usage if Miraidon weren’t dominating the current format.
Emergency exit would've been a great ability if it lets Golosipod leave after doing specifically an attack move and is at 50% health or below. That way, it can still attack then leaving or use something like bulk up and not leave even at 50% yet and then attacking the opponent witth sucker punch or something and then leave the field.
I feel like Golisopod would have been way better if First Impression was a water-type move instead of an Ice-type move. It's very clear what Gamefreak WANTED Golisopod to do. Come in, use First Impression for the guaranteed damage, pivot out safely with Tactical Retreat, wait for another pokemon to get KO'd and pivot Golisopod back in to repeat. And honestly, that idea might have worked if they didn't force Golisopod to rely on a move with the worst offensive type in the game to do so.
Poor Delibird. Nobody ever even says his name right... (the pun in its name is "delivered." so you'd say its name like "del-ib-ird" not "deli bird"). :(
Golisipods emergency exit is actually great for my type, which heavily relies on pivot. when emergency exit activates, I usally send out Musharna, trick room, and healing wish. I can then bring bac golisopod , fully healed and Kill ready with drill run, close combat or any of the sort. Mind you, Mine is choice banded.
Another one that had potential was toadscruel. Tentacruel already had ok stats as a faster special wall, but toadscruel has an insane support movepool: leech seed, knock off, rapid spin, rage powder, spikes and toxic spikes, and that’s to say nothing of spore. And not only spore, but what would be the fastest spore in the game at base 100 speed. I say ‘would be’ because whoever gave it mycelium might, an extremely niche and usually bad ability completely shot that thing in the foot to the point of unplayability. Even its less than ideal type combo isn’t the worst when you have such a fast spore, and a decent offensive movepool to boot. It’s a shame because I was kinda looking forward to that one pre gen 9, as I have a bit of a soft spot for tentacruel.
maria (note: maria refers to itself in third person) would never not recognize delibird, maria fucking LOVES delibird also vikavolt doesnt have battery because its not a battery
Was flying a plane, closed my eyes and almost crashed it. Luckily it was a Boeing 737, so all the passengers were already flung out due to the cabin not being pressurized. No one important was hurt.
I got Delibird after just "Triple Axel" and "Brave Bird" and I progressively dropped my jaw more, wondering if I was wrong. Then you said Insomnia and Hustle and I lost my mind
I think Vikavolt is designed to be a SOS partner to Charjabug. The charjabug basically calls in the ground attack forces with the unevolved form, and the air support with Vikavolt.
I remember looking at vikavolt and then reading its pokedex entry saying it was fast, then saw the stats and i was astounded that despite everything it's so slow that feels it was a deliverate choice
In my competitive USUM days I ran a Impish Max Def Max HP Golisopod that was near indestructible by any physical attacker if I managed to get a single swords dance and start spamming Leech Life or Sucker Punch but ruined by EExit I would give anything to give it Tough Claws or even Shell Armor, Hell I’ll even take Defeatist or something equally bad like Minus (Not Slow Start I’m not that desperate)
Golisopod would be so much stronger if Emergency Exit triggered after it's used its move for the turn. It'd likely be broken-ish but like... how broken could it possibly be with modern Pokemon power creep. I just want my lad to be strong and fun to use. Its design is too damn cool to simply be left in the dust. Even a Hidden Ability that simply lets it have a different ability would go a long way if they don't want to change Emergency Exit. Also sad that they gave his signature move, First Impression, to Pokemon that didn't even need it. Its one solid niche taken away like it's nothing :(
Missed out on Klingklang who is so, so close to being Metagross 2.0 but missed out by having the worst move pool in existence. Having an upgraded Dragon Dance as a signature move and absolutely nothing to use it on is such a kick in the nuts.
On top of buffing Delibird's stats, if Present were to be reworked to function more like Pollen Puff (damage to opponents, heals allies), it would likely be a Doubles menace. Alas, we don't live in that timeline.
According to the pokedex, Vikavolt carries Charjabug when using it as a battery. I think it could be an interesting idea if Game Freak made Vikavolt and Charjabug work like Dondozo and Tatsugiri.
One of my favorite rom hacks, Inclement Emerald, actually turns Vikavolt in a pseudo-legendary, mainly by inflating its speed stat, and my god it’s so much cooler in that game. I know in a base game this probably wouldn’t be feasible, mainly for balancing reasons (getting a pseudo via a thunderstone would be pretty broken), but in the rom hack you’re locked out of getting Vikavolt until after the 5th gym, which in the rom hack puts you at around level 50ish, so it makes sense there.
I think my favorite detail about Golisopod is that Emergency Exit is ENTIRELY IDENTICAL IN EVERY WAY to the ability of its previous evolution, Wimp Out. The only difference is that it is framed as a "tactical retreat" instead of "cowardly running away." I know this is an obvious detail but as a Golisopod enjoyer, I ALWAYS find this absolutely hilarious.
Gamefreak should give golisopod triage as a hidden ability that way it can use leech life with priority. It would probably be broken but golisopod is cool he deserves it
Was brainstorming a way to buff emergency exit because god I want Gilisopod to be viable. Ended up with instead of switching out when it hits half health to switching out it it's targeted for a secon attack in a row.
I will always be pissed off at carrying around a Charjabug for way too long because I wanted a Vikavolt only to find out it evolves on the last island only and when I do get it it's slower than Golem. "It flies at high speed" my ass.
As a huge fan of the holiday season I’m so sad that Delibird has all this potential shackled behind the worst stats ever rolled, so imagine my reaction seeing that my beloved Santa baby became a min-maxed special nuke of a marching toy. Iron Bungle my beloved. Still want a proper Delibird evo though.
i was fucking dying after that build up on a pokemon that seem like it was so overpowered and could fit a lot of roles and then open my eyes and se fucking delibird of all thing
As the one person who uses a Vikavolt on their team, I would like to point out it’s also got insane type coverage. Thunderbolt, Bug Buzz, Air Slash, and Flash Cannon combined means there are literally only 21 Pokemon that it can’t hit for at least neutral, all of which are weak to ground. Besides, it’s always funny to watch people think they killed all the threats only for a bug to start vaporizing their sweepers.
Golispod makes me genuinely sad because I love him so, so much. My absolute favorite pokemon from Gen 7 and an overall top 10 or 15 for me. Why did they have to give it Emergency Exit ONLY? I get the idea behind it, but why make it the only option? Why give it swords dance when every attack that does even moderate damage carries roar as a secondary effect against it? There's so many fitting hidden abilities they could buff it with to make it actual usable aswell, Tough Claws, Battle/Shell Armour, Supreme Overlord, Defiant, Intimidate, Compound Eyes, Bulletproof, Hyper Cutter, Guts, Sheer Force, Unnerve, Moxie, Justified, and Stalwart are all abilities that would fit the concept of a huge, threatening, Samurai Isopod. It's shell is literally described at being diamond hard, how does it not have Shell Armour?
When I heard Brave Bird and Triple Axel I was confused. When I heard all of the other coverage moves I was impressed. Once I heard Aurora Veil I knew who it was and I got pissed off lol

attacking movepool + spikes alone was enough for me to know it was delibird, abilities and support moves just further confirmed it was delibird
i was smiling the whole time
The funniest thing about Delibird is that one of its normal Abilities is Vital Spirit. Doesn't seem that odd? Well, it's Hidden Ability is _Insomnia._ They could have buffed it in Gen 5 to have at least something going for it, but instead, _they gave it a reskin of an Ability it already had._
A Delibird evolution is needed, pronto.
"No bug moves please or I'll shit my pants."
Wow. This may be the closest thing to an emotional response towards Hoopa I've ever felt.
I just want you to know that you called me tf out at 0:52, I like to listen to these on my way home from work every day lmao
Or just give it to a faster Pokémon that can heal itself
Team* not type
Nobody who plays competitive is wishing for a fast spore user to be viable. They knew exactly what they were doing with Toedscruel.
maria (note: maria refers to itself in third person) would never not recognize delibird, maria fucking LOVES delibird
also vikavolt doesnt have battery because its
not a battery
Was flying a plane, closed my eyes and almost crashed it. Luckily it was a Boeing 737, so all the passengers were already flung out due to the cabin not being pressurized. No one important was hurt.
I guessed Delibird at Aurora Veil. Ice types tend to be starving for moves and I remembered Delibird had an absurd movepool.
I got Delibird after just "Triple Axel" and "Brave Bird" and I progressively dropped my jaw more, wondering if I was wrong. Then you said Insomnia and Hustle and I lost my mind
You got as far as triple axel and brave bird for me before I was going "Hey Delibird, nice Triple Axel addition."
The moment you said hustle i immediately got war flashbacks to the game losing misses whenever i got delibird in randbats.
“Unless you’re on the road”
Immediately outs me 😂
golisopod was this close to doing shit at worlds but fucking shitty connection got in the way
That is one of the most tragic things I’ve ever seen
@@ElectricWindGirlFriend we could be having documentaries abt golisopod at worlds, ppl is just recycling the pachirisu year instead
It had to make an emergency exit. :c
I think Vikavolt is designed to be a SOS partner to Charjabug.
The charjabug basically calls in the ground attack forces with the unevolved form, and the air support with Vikavolt.
I’m waiting for the delibird evolution for the comeback. They gave other johto mons evos, were’s santa’s big buff?
Its "buff" was giving you a better Deli
maaaan, imagine if it looked like bird Abamasnow
I was like "Triple Axel"? "Brave Bird"? But then you mentioned Hustle and I instantly got who it was
Tera ice Vikavolt in trick room with normal ursaluna is a gimmick I use along with furret and diancie. Vikavolt solos tbh
Golisopod is one of my favourite pokemon. I so wish it had Intimidate instead of having the umpteenth signature ability
Hoopa Unbound also has surprisingly high special bulk. Like the mf just ignores whatever special attacks you throw at it
Doesn’t help that Defense is trash though
"now open your eyes. It's. ff-FUCKING DELIBIRD" iconic lmaoooo
I remember looking at vikavolt and then reading its pokedex entry saying it was fast, then saw the stats and i was astounded that despite everything it's so slow that feels it was a deliverate choice
was driving and listening to this video, my heart dropped to my ass when he said “unless you’re on the road.” thought i was tripping at first
In my competitive USUM days I ran a Impish Max Def Max HP Golisopod that was near indestructible by any physical attacker if I managed to get a single swords dance and start spamming Leech Life or Sucker Punch but ruined by EExit
I would give anything to give it Tough Claws or even Shell Armor, Hell I’ll even take Defeatist or something equally bad like Minus (Not Slow Start I’m not that desperate)
Put this on while I was driving and got CALLED OUT
Golisopod would be so much stronger if Emergency Exit triggered after it's used its move for the turn.
And shout out to my boy Spinda who can learn a stupid amount of good moves and gets Contrary but is stuck with flat 60's for it's stats
I'd change emergency exit so when you switch your switch in is protected
That second pokemon sounded so good... then I opened my eyes and laugh-cried
A signature ability on a Middle Evolution will be one of the most baffling thing ever
0:55 strong moves like brave bird and taxel with ground coverage
My brain after 2 nanoseconds: yeah delibird, duh
Gamefreak was like “oh yeah lets make iron bundle to fix delibird!” And then never gave Iron Bundle a good move pool
On top of buffing Delibird's stats, if Present were to be reworked to function more like Pollen Puff (damage to opponents, heals allies), it would likely be a Doubles menace. Alas, we don't live in that timeline.
It hit me around the time you mentioned spinning.
Instantly guessed delibird hearing insomnia. Also thanks four the reminder two not close my eyes when driving
The only difference is that it is framed as a "tactical retreat" instead of "cowardly running away."
I know this is an obvious detail but as a Golisopod enjoyer, I ALWAYS find this absolutely hilarious.
i got delibird at “spikes” i hate seeing that bastard in ranbats
Gamefreak should give golisopod triage as a hidden ability that way it can use leech life with priority. It would probably be broken but golisopod is cool he deserves it
Was brainstorming a way to buff emergency exit because god I want Gilisopod to be viable. Ended up with instead of switching out when it hits half health to switching out it it's targeted for a secon attack in a row.
ALL EYES ON RAFAH, please don't ignore those in need
I will always be pissed off at carrying around a Charjabug for way too long because I wanted a Vikavolt only to find out it evolves on the last island only and when I do get it it's slower than Golem. "It flies at high speed" my ass.
As a huge fan of the holiday season I’m so sad that Delibird has all this potential shackled behind the worst stats ever rolled, so imagine my reaction seeing that my beloved Santa baby became a min-maxed special nuke of a marching toy. Iron Bungle my beloved.
Still want a proper Delibird evo though.
I'm way too happy with myself for guessing delibird correctly.
That delibird bit had me crying oh my god 😭
1:32 BRO I THOUGHT IT WAS HISUIAN BRAVIARY 😭😭😭
i was fucking dying after that build up on a pokemon that seem like it was so overpowered and could fit a lot of roles and then open my eyes and se fucking delibird of all thing
Its okay golisopod, you're amazing in my heart
Real randbats grinders knew delibird immediately, its two movesets are stabs+drill run and spikes+spin
That’s where I got the idea for this video, those delibird sets are peak
When I heard Brave Bird and Triple Axel I was confused. When I heard all of the other coverage moves I was impressed. Once I heard Aurora Veil I knew who it was and I got pissed off lol
I absolutely love Golisopod, everytime I replay Gen 7 I always get one and name it either Shelldon or Shellby ❤
