Fun fact: Riolu was briefly a more viable pick than Lucario in VGC because of Prankster-priority Coaching to basically give your teammate a free Bulk Up before they move
@@mmmdsdads Lucario has horribly mid abilities, which is why it fall down many tiers in Smogon and never used serious ly in VGC. You would think it would have an aura based boosting ability but nope.
I swear Riolu is 1 support move away from being completely cracked. Priority Coaching is very good but the rest of it's support pool is a lot to be desired. It's got weathers, but not another always relevant supporting move. Upper Hand, Coaching, Detect and then your choice of Feint, Weather, ect. Copy Cat to let it flip around trick rooms or you can Tera dark and flip around a taunt... but really it's lacking in some form of consistent utility other than Coaching.
Most of these, in gen 5 and 6, were MUCH more viable and useful in triple battles. Greninja's Mat block especially, allowing you to protect your side while allowing 2 teammates to use free moves instead of just one. (Such as a Tailwind Talonflame and a Water Spout Mega Blastoise)
So Ally Switch is like dealing with +2 5 Supreme Overlord Kingambit w/Sucker Punch and Kowtow Cleave, but less oppresive but more annoying? I think Ally Switch is my new favourite move now 😈
I wish enemy switch was a move. Allows your support mon to swap sides on the field and makes both trainers have to throw out their pokemon extra hard to reach the other side

The single player game gives you all these moves and the first thing you do is replace them, because the single-player experience makes dead sure you'll only get to use them maybe a couple of times, and even then you don't need 'em. Doubles is such a gimmick in the story, so it's weird that it's the official way to play as soon as you explore competitive. That's a bit of a shock, and I think it's a flaw of the single-player game design.
Fun fact since I read Boingus: Priority can be side used in Terrain, allowing wacky stuff like Aqua Jet self proc'ing Weakness Policy Weak Armor shenanigans in terrain
My favourite use for this is on a really weird team I built around Lurantis, if I'm facing psyspam I can target a fake tears into my lurantis and eat up anything they try to throw at me
Primarina can side proc weakness policy on an Armarouge with weak armour. Turn 1, priority enabled, +2 speed and +2 special attack, off of a weak attack because Primarina is a special 'mon. Now you have an Armarogue that is insane outside of trick room alongside a mon that's probably going to try to calm mind boost turn 2 if the opponent foces down the immediate threat.
