Absolutely timeless album. It saved my soul when it was released, and it is still saving my soul today.

Absolutely fascinating! I’ve revered this album since the day it was released, literally. Thank you VERY much for sharing this!

Chris Frantz had bought Fela Kuti's album, Shakara in his art school days years before this album. He already knew about African music.

I mean fair enough, everyone has their own perspective on events, its likely he misremembered it or just wasn’t given that pice of info (he worked more closely with Byrne than anyone else on that record also and I’ve heard Byrne stretched the truth often etc so maybe he gave Eno bad info that became a false memory) happens all the time. Point is he probably doesn’t realize he’s wrong if he is, but its probably not a blatant attempt at spreading misinformation.

Brian's comment about "the awful threat of democracy creeping into the situation" rings true for many musicians, I think. In that beautiful BBC film about Eno, one of his studio collaborators recalls tension mounting around some musical decision. Eno suddenly suggested cake, and pulled one out. Afterwards, no one could remember what the disagreement had been about.

I think he's referring to David alone there, maybe the other band members didn't like it as much as the two did 🤣

The music playing is too slow. Is that a RUclips issue or is this how the programme was recorded?

That’s the original mix before the remastered version of 2005 in that remaster the speed up the song.
