Andy, as I mentioned in the comments on your Brayton video, I had a girlfriend in the 70s who lived there. Your Selby video reminded me of the times we spent mooching round the town. I remember going to see ABBA The Movie at the (long gone) Ritz, calling at Wetherells, the department store where she worked and having an occasional under age drink in some of the town's pubs. The Cricketer's Arms and The Blackamoor spring to mind. I wouldn't be surprised if the latter had been renamed to appease the snowflakes! I really enjoyed your video, as I have all of them, (the first I saw was of my village, Edenthorpe). You do a fantastic job of researching the history of all the parishes you visit and I'm sure the videos will be invaluable to students of social history in the not too distant future. Keep up the good work.
I lived in one of the flats you can see at 23:50 and can confirm that park flooded almost waist deep in January 2021. The houses were not affected though as they sit slightly elevated from the park. Interestingly the day after that rain it got cold enough that the whole park turned into an ice rink that was thick enough you could slide across it.
The grand final of the Selby Parishes 74 of 74 well done Andy . Hope you enjoyed Selby our home town for over 40 years our children and grandchildren still live there. Lots of people will be forever grateful for what you are doing keep up the good work i will continue to follow your travels .
Great visit, Andy. We have been saying that we must visit Selby since we moved north, this has convinced me. Though not religious, we do enjoy looking round churches, and the Abbey looks fantastic. We did visit York Minster in the summer, pricey, as you say, though your tickets do allow additional visits within the year. Thanks for another interesting video.

Fabulous round up of most of Selby, thank you. A little extra info for you on St James church. On 10th May 1944 a Halifax bomber aircraft returning to Burn was travelling too low and hit the church spire, destroying it and several houses too. All crew and some civilians were killed, 15 people in all. You really made me appreciate the wonderful buildings we have in Selby. There are several historical 'trails' of various lengths that you can follow, pointing out famous buildings and people from Selby. The booklet is called Swanning Around Selby and several shops have them for free, or the Library. The Crescent which is the row of shops across from the Abbey and The George Hotel (Formally the Londesborough ) is designed in the style of the crescent at Bath. It had a famous Drapers shop in the building that is now Wetheralls department store. Sorry I was away at the time as I would have been outside the Abbey. The Abbey Christmas chutney and marmalade/jams are fabulous, hope you enjoyed them!
We did! They were a bit pricey, but then again, entry to the Abbey is free, so that made up for it! Thanks Angela! You've been one of my best followers in this series. Hope you enjoy York, which is coming next!
as a small lad when this happened, my grandad Ted Cockerill took me out into the yard and pointed out the damage the spire, I had no idea, nor when Unty Ruby took me in to the middle of Brook street to see hundreds of bombers flaying low, pas us "It's VE Day she said", aged about 4yo I had no idea of acronyms. those poor chaps in the bomber though, I still think of them.

In the war st James tower had crashed into by a German aircraft
as a child my grandad pointed out the damage to the church the very next day.
yo can walk from the bus station around the corner and you will be at the railway station instead of walking all the way round
