i purchased this redcat the same day it became available from redcat website. I love this truck. remove the black spring retainers and move the top bolt of the rear shock two holes forward and one hole down. it will help with flex and soften the suspension
Couple of things you can do to really bring the performance of this truck to the forefront. First, there are internal springs in the shocks. They are way too stiff and really limit travel. Get those things out of there. While the shocks are apart, get a package of Traxxas blue silicone o-rings (TRA3261) and replace the pair of stock o-rings in the bottom of the shock body. The stock o-rings are a bit oversized and when you tighten the bottom cartridge on, it compresses the o-rings and puts a bit of bind to the shock shaft. The Traxxas o-rings take care of that. I then put in some 30wt oil. Another thing that helps is getting the Losi Mini-T front spring set. I used the soft spring (pink) on the front and the medium (red) on the rear. Doing those things to the shocks alone make a world of difference in perfomance. Throw a HW 1800kv Fusion SE in there and you've got one great performing rig.
@@themountain59 No you don't. The two things I mention to buy for the shocks will cost you a whopping $20. If that's too much money to spend for someone, then they need to think about buying a WPL...or Hot Wheels. If you haven't driven one of these, I can see why your comment might be inaccurate.
Much respect for the amount of work you gotta be doing to get these videos out each day. Dedicated pro. I appreciate it. It's also the first time I have seen you review a redcat on your channel. I'm not a redcat fanboy, but I do have and love their original Kaiju, and I'd love to see you get your hands on that one of these days... Your review holds more weight with me. Keep up the great work, happy holidays, and see ya tomorrow!!
Redcat seems to be getting better and better. This one is one of their better looking c's. The performance was quite good and the water test might've been one of the best I've ever seen. Your filming was excellent.
Day 12 my favorite so far I have the Red one & its upgraded like you wouldn’t believe I put the Rock Pirates shock towers on it but after installing the overdrive that made a huge difference add a Fusion SE 1800k & now your talking.
Yay, we have a crawler & a very nice one. 65mm flex is enough for any LCG style crawler. As i have found over the years in this hobby, having loads of flex can be detrimental to the stability of the Rc.
I think the reason we still get the meh 1040s is because they just have a ton laying around, or their price is basically nothing per unit compared to the 1060s
Upgrade to a Hobbywing 1080 G2, run the BEC at 8.4 volts. The extra voltage will give the servo more speed and power and the motor more power. The drivability will improve dramatically because the 1080 is configurable so you get a professional crawler experience for $50.
Just wanted to say thank you. Watching your videos has got me right back into Rc cars. Lunch box, racing fighter and rising fighter kits bought. 124017 and 14401 wltoys bought. Finally hpi maverick strada also bought. I'm hooked. Great videos. Keep up the good work👍😄
I just started this addiction about a month ago and I`m completely hooked. I`ve gotta say your channel has been very helpful and you are fun to watch. I`d also really like to know where I can find those mini jack stands you had it on at the end of the video. Thank you for doing what you do!!!
10:54 Whenever you drive an R/C in deep water I'm reminded of the scene in the movie "Risky Business" where the mech opens the door on Tom Cruise's porsche and says the line "ok who's the U boat commander"? hahahah
I've built and bought crawlers over the years and my newest build is a Poized T3 with a $1000+ in it and during black Friday I grabbed the blue Ascent. It's my favorite crawler after some mods between the two. Please do some upgrades and do more videos with the Ascent.
I'm not much of a rock crawler guy. But been waiting for something affordable with all the Bells and whistles. To add to my collection this red cat will do just fine.
in the model submarine world we always used 35Mhz FM radios as 2.4Ghz doesnt work under water hence the signal loss. fortunately most aircraft have now moved to 2.4 GHz. never been keen on the crawlers but this one has got my attention, nice one. Have you thought of adding some lead ballast weights to increase grip and stability?
Redcat making some beautiful trucks lately. Impressive performance too. I might have to give this brand another look. That car hauler they put out is gorgeous.
i really like this rig...other than the shocks i like everything else about it. Would love to see a video where you would upgrade this a bit, put better shocks maybe? thanks for the video!
I have one finally took about a week of it being sold out. I slapped a good wheel combo on it and moved my shocks around and placed the ESC down on the running board instead of towards the front on top. Just with the wheels it’s crawling with a 1000$ Capra
We are stingy. We don't like to share, unless its our taxpayers money, then our folks give it to any tom dick or harry that wants to run a country for us. cough cough Ukraine cough cough
It's such a shame there's no UK distribution for Red Cat cars. Their range seems to be really good, but I don't like to buy something unless I can get my hands on it first!! I'd rely on a review like this to make my mind up, and I'd definitely think about one of these, if I was in the market for a new crawler. Nice job. 😎👍🏻
One of the guys I regularly crawl with has one of these, the first time out he had it playing at being a submarine (4 ft lunch off a footbridge into a deep stream a few times!) and it survived fine A decent crawler too considering the spec of the ESC, although knowing him it'll have a Fusion fitted by now already. Tyres are the weak point on our local rocks but the suspension was fine. Up there with the Element stuff for RTR competency, pity there's no UK distributor as it should sell well.
Finally a climb test where the surface was ideal in grip type for the tires and rig to actually perform optimal for conditions. 50+ degrees well done due to your skill on the throttle Sir. ✨🏆✨🫡
Keeping up-to-date with the advent calendar. Love these videos. Love the content. And I'm glad to see with the spy duck that you are getting some time with family while entertaining the masses!
That reminds me to buy some axle housings for my 8x8.... Or 10x10 if I just add another axle. 🤔 And I think I'll get the snow plough out and fit it on a trx4, we might get some snow. 🙄👍
Wish redcat had a uk supplier , had these and the RDS drift car on my radar for a while ! Where can we get a dinky set of axle stands from ? They're pretty slick
I've watched every one so far the day they come out. Love your videos. Finally broke down and bought some tickets. Good luck everyone! Most of all good luck to me! 🤣 There's some cool stuff in that bundle. I'm glad some of the proceeds are going to charity. Happy holidays everyone!
From what I've seen, it looks fairly decent, but the geometry is all messed up (upper link and panhard configured wrong, for one), and the shocks need some serious tuning. And those steel rails are _heavy_, raising the cg. Would have been better using aluminium, or at least thinner steel rails. Those massive pumpkins on the portals mean they barely have any more clearance than a decent straight axle. So all you get is a higher cg, without the added clearance of a well built portal axle.
I was just looking at these but what puts me off is the plastic spur gear, no metals ones for it on their website either. For me that's a deal breaker. Maybe someone else makes one for it, dunno. Still no UK suppliers anyway I just discovered.
instead of the "hand of god", beware of the "foot of Phil!" lol! great job on the review and loving the advent calendar. been watching it from the start and can't wait until tomorrow's vid! cheers.
Great vid ...never had a crawler..they look fun...going back to your duck vid i noticed you used a bait boat i did write on there but so many peeps i bet you had a job reading it...i was just wondering if you bought a baitboat as your a angler too or as it was an rc buy thanks ...and keep the vids coming ...i really enjoy your channel..great stuff
A Really cool tough crawler 👍 but here in Europe the Element Ecto is definitly the better Choice 🎉 and he had beadlocked rims and the Akku is in a better Position.
I like the tucked body. I like the color. Its a typical crawler with very little flexibility. The portals are nice but honestly just something more to maintain and/or break.
I'd still say the best crawler would be the scx10 pro, build it how you want it, plus loads of aftermarket for it, only down side is the price and only comes as a slider
@@dieseldabz7104 yeah I get that, but sometimes you have to take cost of of the equation, if someone offered me both for free I would take the axial any day

Redcat has come a long ways! I remember when a majority of their products were rebranded hsp/exceed cars. Im keen on getting the new ridge runner
Another great truck and review . Thanks .🎄
Redcat used to use Dumbo. It was actually where to go to get a pdf for manual for the Dumbo. I'm guess that is still a Dumbo radio.

I'd reckon a softer shock setup, some brass upfront and the underdrive installed it would be a beast! Maybe a nice set of heavy wheels!
I would agree with either budget or RTR, but the vanquish VRD Carbon kit looks to be unbeatable.

why do most rock crawlers have brushed motors ? Feels bad not having brushless at this price range, but maybe there's a good reason ?
