This is an excellent video. I rebuilt both of my 2001 Z06 motors with your step-by-step directions. I greatly appreciate your video which made my repairs a snap. 😀
Thanks for your video! I just replaced my passenger side headlight motor ---- since mine is a 2000, I had the glued one, so I just bought whole new motor on Amazon for $70 rather than messing with gears.
Great video-went out to garage and took apart headlight assembly and it was the same rubber insert that was the cause. Ordered kit from Website-Thanks for your help!!!
7:32 pm eastern standard time, 01/23/2023. Good video, but the part I needed to see was in hyper mode and your hands were in the way anyway. I took my motor apart to change the gear to the metal one which you don’t seem to carry. And since I had to stop in the middle of assembly and continued days later. I am having problem with reassembly. But Thank you anyway.
Ok - here it is 7 months later and I'm doing the other headlight. Again, very useful, well-done video. Thanks again. .......Oh I too have given up on Mr Zukerbucks FakeBook stuff. What a (expletive deleted) he is!
My headlamp (driver's side) doesn't even catch on the gear. I can literally just grab the headlamp and move it up and down. It will fall back down to the car if I lift it and then let it go. I'm assuming its the gear still. Some bs if you ask me. I will replace it with a metal gear so I won't have that problem again. Or should I get another motor then put the metal gear in it? Before the gear went out, the headlamp would go up and down about 5 times then get stuck open. All my butt stocks are new so idk at this point. Hopefully the gear fix will solve all my problems.
I watched the video and thought it was within my capabilities to do this myself. I ordered the gear part for my 2003 Corvette C-5 passenger headlight. I received the part #8970 which is the gear but it says 1997-1999! I have a 2003 C-5! Is there no difference? Also, there is no way to manually "crank up" the headlight like in the video. Do I have the correct part and if so, how do I get the headlight in the up position lacking a handy twist knob to accomplish that? Thanks
The same gear is for the 97-04, the only difference is the late 00-04 has a T brace to help hold the housing together since it is glued together where the 97-early 2000 are screwed together. The gear is the same in all of them.
Thanks. I know how annoying it can be to look for a video to figure something out and someone spends 20 minutes talking about something completely unrelated.
I wouldn't image it would take much more than 30-45 minutes. It isn't difficult. I just never timed it. I'm using doing multiple things at once or recording stuff as I do it.
Unless you put power to them and turned the light switch on they should be in the down position. So, if you manually crank it up when you take it off just manually crank it down before you turn on the switch. Both headlights should be in the down position.
Is the "T" bracket held in place with bolts that come off when the motor is removed or do we buy nuts bolt to hold the bracket in place. I'm sure it is self explanatory when under the hood . My C5 is 150miles away, so I can't go look. Tks!
Changed out my motor and now my breaker for the fog lights is buzzing. Disconnect it and it stops. Never had this problem before. What am I missing? Or is this a coincidence? Pulled off the negative to see if that would help reset things.
Rebuilding headlights should have nothing to do with our fog lights. That buzzing could be a relay. I think it is just a weird coincidence it happened at the same time.
Hi! I need some help and I hope somebody can help me. I have a Corvette C5 from 2002 and it started making a noise so I replaced the left headlight motor's gear for a metalic one. My headlight's motor is a first generation without bolts. After replacing the gear, the headlight locks in the up and down positions most of the times. I have to unlock it manually. The four white stops are in good conditions. I tried adding whasers or spacers but it is still not working well. I hope somebody can help me solve the problem. Thanks!
Do recommend the plastic gear or metal gear? I have a 2000. I ask because some say the plastic (aftermarket) are cheap and others say the brass is heavy and could ruin the motor in a related failure (i.e. not the weakest link).
Besides the costs difference, they both have that rubber insert which can fall apart, like the one I took out in the video. I don't know anyone that sells that insert so if it goes out on the brass one you'd still have to buy a whole new gear just to get the insert.
I'll be replacing with plastic when mine ever go. The plastic is designed to break when the limit is exceeded, brass is asking for damage to the motor or linkage if it's ever obstructed and will cause much bigger and more expensive problems. As the video creator mentioned, the rubber insert can sometimes be the culprit and that will probably need replacing as often if not more often than the gear anyway, so may as well get cheaper plastic gears and just replace everything when one or the other breaks. The brass was a nice thought, but if you're breaking plastic gears constantly you're doing something wrong and strengthening the gear is probably not the right answer.
What bolts do you use to secure the T bracket? Do you drill the holes out as well? before bolting it on? Or, will a self tapping sheet metal screw do the trick? Tia
Hi I replaced my passenger motor but now the light goes down too hard, and I have manually turn it 9-10 times to raise it before it will go up, any help.
Maybe you knocked off one of the rubber stops, or maybe it was off to begin with which caused the problem. I sent you an email with photos of what they look like.
I have the issue when I try to turn them on, the headlight don’t pop up and when I manually put it up, the lights wont be on. What could be the issue? I hear the noise from the motors like gears, no sound
Is the headlight on when it is down? If not may just be a burnt bulb. Chances are either the gear is stripped or the rubber insert in the gear is completely torn up keeping it from going up or down.
That rubber insert is probably in pieces. If you grab the edge of the lid with your hand and pull up as you twist the manual knob you should be able to get it up.
@@C3Stingray Oh I deleted the rubber insert and used a 3d printed gear. I wound up taking the gear cover off with the headlight down, with the cover off the shaft wiggled enough to catch the good teeth of the gear and I was able to open it My motor doesn't know when to stop spinning so I need to fix/adjust that so it doesn't continue to spin when down
taking all that apart is an insane waste of time you can access all 4 of the ten millimeter nuts and bolts on both sides of the car. there is a module on the passenger side that needs to be removed again ten mm nuts this took less than 45 minutes

Honestly might do that same I’ve been trying to pry it off for the past hour and am ready to give up😭
Thanks, man. Made it really easy to replace my motors and gears.
Awesome , I replace the whole light motor with your video in my C5 ... THANKS

Thanks for the order, ships out on Monday morning. Glad it helped.
Excellent video. Heading over to the website to get gear kit next. Thanks!
Thanks for this video. I was able to fix my C5 headlight with your help. I may do the other one as well - instead of waiting for it to go bad.

Thanks, very concise and to the point, helpful

I like the way you do the video No bull just business. SB
Thanks. I know how annoying it can be to look for a video to figure something out and someone spends 20 minutes talking about something completely unrelated.
Can you tell me the actual time it took to change the motor? I received the book estimate 1 1/2 hours

very good video and parts are very reasonable ordered my new gear from website
Glad you liked the video. Your gear is shipping out in the morning. Thanks.
How does the motor know when the light is up or down? Does the motor have to be oriented in a certain way? Thanks
Unless you put power to them and turned the light switch on they should be in the down position. So, if you manually crank it up when you take it off just manually crank it down before you turn on the switch. Both headlights should be in the down position.

Yes, its the same bolts that hold the motor to the assembly.
Thanks. Good instructions
Tried to make it quick and to the point. Pretty easy job. Thanks.

You use the same bolts that holds the motor to the bracket. That is how it is designed to be used.

My process takes less than 45 minutes, probably less than a half an hour. Don't feel it is difficult at all. But everyone has their own methods.
get a light so we can see
