    Hey girl, really appreciate you talking about the chocolate trade. Tony’s chocolonely is actually 100% ethical and each bar is split into uneven shaped pieces to show how uneven and unfair the chocolate supply chain is! Has cute packaging and tastes amazing too.

      @@kimberlyxvo i mean it is B corporation certified. They also do not claim they can say 100% slave labor free, as they cannot be on the look 24/7, they try their best. As well as being on site 24/7 would be uncomfortable for the employees working there. They stop around 400 cases of child labor every year. Due to the fact that they are B corporation certified you can track their whole supply chain if you want. But overall, the chocolate tastes great, the packaging is sustainable and they are a company that puts more emphases on changing the coco industry for the better.

      Yup! Only brand I buy anymore, and also in moderation now. They say they can't guarantee to be 100% slave labour free but I feel like they are the hardest trying brand that is available to me.

      One thing to keep in mind is that the other issue with chocolate is lead and cadmium content. These are naturally occurring in most sources of cocoa so most chocolate will contain them. Tony's was tested along with a bunch of other brands and sadly does include over the recommended daily limit of these elements. Not saying don't eat chocolate, but it's probably not a good thing to have daily (something I'm working on now...).

    "these were just habits I created to survived, and sometimes all you need to do is survive" literally just blew my mind. I've been trying to get rid of my need to be scrolling/ need to be on social media/ need to escape since the beginning of the new year and some of it has been easy but some of it has been hard. finding the lil ways to still get on Facebook or RUclips shorts, spending hours having RUclips videos in the background noise to give my brain satisfaction. And I remember social media is what I used to escape my toxic late teen, early adult years. its a trauma response , and like every trauma response it's hard to get rid of. this definitely put it in a different perspective for me, but its not gonna stop me from trying harder to break it off.

    I love the dedication to stop habits that are not serving you. However, I couldn't stop feeling that maybe we don't need to deprive ourselves of all those little things (chocolate at 2pm, a diet coke), that make life more enjoyable? We aren't on the planet for a long time and maybe a few of these things can be enjoyed without as much guilt or pressure to abstain. ❤

      Agree!! I'm currently working with a registered dietician to end my restrict-binge cycles but allowing myself to have these "bad" foods. Quitting cold turkey and trying to go 75 days without the "bad" food seems like a good idea at first, but people usually fail and then feel bad that they failed!

      Its not wrong for her to bring up the fact that cheap chocolate is produced unethically, just because something makes you feel guilty doesn't mean you should ignore the implications of that choice. Im sure the exploited workers are suffering much greater and have much harder lives than do when abstaining from cheaply produced sweets.

      It seems people are taking up issue around feeling convicted against their own bad habits. She made it extremely clear that she’s employing these unhealthy habits to a detrimental degree. Nobody said you can’t have a treat. Multiple “treats” a day equates to a broader negative lifestyle impacting physical & mental well-being.

    Many of my bad habits cost a lot of money. I was drinking 8-10 Diet Cokes a day. Quit= Save $100 a month. No Buy/Low Buy is my work for the year. I'm 14 days in, and doing well so far. Regarding Social Media (mine is RUclips - haha!), I have a lock box for my remote control. I lock it away for 7-10 hours each day so I can write and work without watching great videos like yours... until after I finish my _NEED_ to dos. Thank you for this validation!

    I truly appreciate that you planned and kept this for a whole year. I admire that :) and please don't feel so bad about bad habits- we all have some. It doesn't subtract an inch from your human value. If anything it makes you special. And of course, I understand why you need to get rid of them; I just hope you go easy on yourself.     "Everything you eliminate, you have to replace" - this is so so so soooooooooooo true and no-one talks about it.
    This is a beautiful video, and the human value in it is, really, not quantifiable through views and revenues. THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing your thoughts with us, with honesty and without romanticizing. It has been an incredible healing journey (i know - such an abused word, but understanding the importance of self-love is the base for such process).

    Keltie, my heart hurts for you. Do you have OCD or ADHD? I’ve been a fan of yours for years (admittedly not watched every video) and I remember a few videos like skin picking and hair picking. Breaking these habits might not be about breaking habits but about addressing something bigger that they’re helping you regulate. I have OCD and ADHD. I have dermatillomania and I pick my skin until it bleeds, gets infected and sometimes scars. The habits I have in place like excessive gum chewing, fizzy drinks, excessive (decaf) coffee, etc. are all at the core for regulation due to childhood trauma and anxiety. I really hope you have a solid therapy and wellness routine/support system to help you address the early life stress that might still be hiding in your body.

    So many of these "habits" are coping mechanisms for anxiety. I recognize many of them from my experience. Medication isn't for everyone but I benefit enormously from taking anxiety medication (Sertraline for me, aka Zoloft). I wish I had started in my 30s or even 20s instead of finally taking the plunge at 43.

    I cover my pimples with patches to avoid popping them. If they are white heads a simple patch will do - if they are still developing Ill do a spiky patch that has salicylic acid.
    Popping pimples is so big for me, mighty patches have saved me alot of embarrassing scars.

    This video is so relatable and the moment you said “they made me survive” that hits me so hard. It are indeed mostly coping mechanisms. You inspired me to start tackling the “dirty” habits also 1 per month (I have the tendency to go all in and quit everything but that’s just not realistic- life happens) and swap them for habits that serve me and help me in becoming the person I want to be.     I'm so glad that at the end of this journey you understood that grace and being gentle was important. Living with constant fear and criticism is not a recipe to enjoy one's life. I'm not much older than you, I'm 37, but the older I get the more I understand the strength of kindness and forgiveness.     This video is so powerful that I've watched it about 5 times already!! Without a doubt it is one of the most impactful RUclips videos I've ever watched. Thank you for being so generous with yourself, presenting something so real and honest, and taking us with you on the ups and downs, the ah-ha moments, the whole journey. I tried a habit-a-month challenge about 5 years ago and didn't stick with it. So much of what you said explained why, and the advice you gave makes me think I can try again and be more successful. I'll focus on looking at what purpose that habit may serve, and try to put in a habit switch, rather than just removing my vices, use if-then statements... I'm excited for 2024! For the record, Aussies call it "soft drink" or "fizzy drink" :)

    I've been doing "no treats" for 2024. My boyfriend and I are little treat fiends, especially after the gym. Either ice cream, chocolate, or fast food. It's ok every once in a while but the little treats got way too out of hand in the past 6 months.
    Trading a milkshake for yogurt and fruit. It isn't the same but it's tasty enough to get the craving gone!

    Not sure if you'll see this, but I have struggled with skin-picking my whole life too. I've been truly working on it this last year. My doctor told me to take the over-the-counter supplement called NAC 2-3 times a day. I also now put Aquaphor on any existing scabs. 1. It helps them heal so much faster and 2. It reminds my fingers to not pick when I feel the Aquaphor... hope this helps. It's forever a battle. ❤❤❤

    What you explained about how when you let go and allowed yourself to give into your « bad » habits without judgement, you were able to be finally free of their clutches is at the core of intuitive eating! The key is allowing yourself to eat whatever food you want whenever you want without guilt or moralizing (good food vs bad food) it, to help free you from EDs. At least thats how it worked for me after 30y battling EDs.

    Since you have ADHD:
    Have you tried chewlery? It’s a stim toy that can help you regulate yourself. Have you tried meds? No need to answer but it’s more I haven’t been able to keep up ANYTHING without being on meds. Also, PMDD (really awful periods) are super common with ADHD folk!! It’s a really interesting topic to dive into. Thank you for sharing, I saw myself SO much in this video. You’re doing amazing

    I saw this quote once that "Everyone is addicted to their own drug of choice" and it very much describes our bad habits. We all have bad habits, which is just a nice name for addictions. And they can be so fucking hard to beat. So I applaud you for trying, and I hope more people will too after seeing this.

    Keltie, while you may still be slightly struggling with skin picking, your skin journey has really helped me with mine. Plus reading Atomic Habits at the beginning of last year. I now pick my skin WAY less than I used to, although not a zero amount. But seeing someone else on that same journey was helpful. And a while ago you talked about replacing picking with a good skin care routine, so I built one over the last year. It’s not perfect, but it’s getting better all the time.
    Atomic Habits really is the GOAT for helping set up good habits and eliminate bad ones. This year I’ve improved my skincare, been more consistent about sleep, been more consistent about getting up early, and been more consistant about workouts.
    Keep working towards your goals, being your authentic self, and you’ll keep inspiring me and a whole bunch of other people. Influencer…maybe. Inspiration…definitely.

    Diet Pop and Monster Ultra are soooooo hard for me to give up! I only have managed once before after I had my teeth cleaned but a month later I got stressed, cracked and broke the streak. I’ve had 2 monster ultras and 2 diet cokes (today alone)- so I feel you on this and thanks for the electrolyte recommendation!! :) I have so many things I want to change and this way of making it a challenge makes it seem more appealing somehow!! Haven’t finished the video yet but wanted to say hope you’re doing good, that your January is going well and remind you that we adore you and see all the great things in you that you struggle to see in yourself sometimes 💙

    As a chewing gum strategist (using it to break nail biting habit at 13, sweet cravings between ages 25 till now, stress face picking and lip biting + biting other things), chewing gum in excess unfortunately gives me gas, if I had 60 pieces a day, I would fart enough to go to the moon.

    thanks for so much realness. watching youtubers often gives me the feeling they have the perfect routines, the perfect diet, the perfect habits. last year i gave up nutella for breakfast. i ate this for 30 years and i finally found a breakfast thats healthy and that i like.

    A great solution I’ve found to doomscrolling this new year (actually just before Christmas) is I’ve taken up crochet and knitting! I can now listen to podcasts or audiobooks while my hands are busy so I’m not tempted to pick up my phone and start mindlessly scrolling until I can’t even remember what I’ve just heard. And it’s so lovely seeing progress in a new skill.

    I could comment on this video a million times 😂 I am a serial skin picker, I pick the skin around my fingers and I GO IN! And you’re right we shame ourselves!! We put such emphasis on not just the bad but the good too. I learned to accept the habits I don’t like, I open up about them and find out more people are just like me, and yes they’re coping mechanisms that’s all they’re and it’s all in the mind, when we relax we forget, they may not go away but slowly they get better, but accepting who we are helps us be kinder to ourselves and make the subtle changes and we become the person we want to be. We do it for us and not because the internet told us to

I just noticed it got really bad during states of stress and accepting that it’s something I may do throughout my life when really stressed. Acknowledging and accepting has actually help take the shame away and took less focus off as if I notice myself doing it I try my best to stop. A friend also bought me a fidget ring to wear to mess with, it’s just finding another distraction. Hope that helps!

    It must have not been easy but I appreciate how transparent you were with your skin picking and in general about falling off and filling up your cup. I struggle with skin picking too and it makes me hopeful knowing I’m not alone. And like I know I’m not alone but hearing and seeing you go through it is a reminder of that ❤ i hope this comment is a reminder for you that youre also not alone

    As much I love this video I really thought dirty habits meant you'd tell us about how you stopped picking your nose and biting your fingernails and cuticles or started washing your hands more often, and showering enough and brushing your teeth more often ect. there are gross thing we do and try to stop without ever telling anyone so i was kinda excited to hear about some. I was hoping it'd make me feel more normal and a little less disgusting

    This video is great. I also had the addiction to artificial sweeteners in gum, diet pepsi, and zero calorie drinks, but they were wrecking my gut. I was chewing so much gum and I started to spit out my saliva to get rid of the aspartame to save my gut, I was totally dehydrating myself. Really unhealthy pattern. I had to go cold turkey and replace the impulse to put something in my mouth by drinking water. Even LMNT can be addictive. I have to be mindful of not trying to replace food with stuff like that as a way to lose weight. Thanks for being honest about these habits!

    Girl if u knew how many of us are along the same lines. Thanks for reminding me that at one point I needed my maladaptive coping mechanisms to survive what I was going through at that moment. I feel like after you are kinder and release the demands and the pressure of taking on a new habit or deleting and old one there’s less friction. Still requires effort but it’s a different vibe when the intention behind it changes

    Okay be prepared, this is a long comment lol.
    I have watched your videos for a couple of years now, back when you were still living in Toronto. I have only seen your videos improve as you challenge yourself and your capabilities in both video production and self exploration.
    I see a lot of similarity between our circumstances and I've found your content very inspiring and motivating. Between your videos and the PWHL all I've done for the last month is feel motivated, moved, inspired and so very proud to be a woman, oh and I've cried a bunch too from the overwhelming girl power (spice girl reference cause I'm 30 now lol)
    This video cut super deep for me as well because I have also been trying to break some bad habits in 2023 and build other habits as well. I was a total cry baby near the end of your video when you spoke about the embarrassment and shame regarding these habits because it felt so raw and familiar. These habits, I've learned, are indeed coping mechanisms for anxiety, loneliness, depression, energy loss, sleep deprecation, vitamin deficiencies etc. And require empathy and understanding in order to navigate them. I don't chew gum but I've been a nail biter since I was 5 and it's been an ongoing habit I've been trying to break.
    Thank you for making such fantastic, beautiful content Keltie and I look forward to see whatever it is you do next.
    PS. I highly recommend the book "Broke Millenial" by Erin Lowry. It helped me pay off all my credit card debt, $38k in student loans and get my finances in order (both business and personal), set up an emergency fund, retirement fund and investment fund. It took a long time because I'm self employed and didn't have any financial education growing up, but now I am doing so much better (only took all of my 20s 😂). The book helped me understand the psychology of money, what it's like when you grow up in poverty/ lower class, general financial terms, debt repayment types, talking to partners about money, etc.
    I can't wait for your videos regarding this part of your life and thank you for sharing.

    I started to give up coffee 15 days before Jan 2024, not good for my ticker anymore, i switched to green tea or calamansi juice, still going strong and I feel better without it, my focus and alert is diff from what I get from coffee, i like it, its refreshing, Imma keep going with this change. ❤❤

    Thanks for being so raw and honest with us. I look at someone like you, fit and active and doing all these intense things like marathons and stuff, and have the tendency to feel like you must have everything together. To know that you have the same kinds of habits you feel guilty about that I do really helps me feel like it's gonna be okay. I'm still trying to figure it out-- I find I can maintain good habits for like 2 weeks max, then I get burnt out and fall back on old patterns. I don't know how to replace them yet, I don't know what would help. Sometimes I get home from work and I'm so tired and burnt out I just have nothing left to give. But I'm working on it!

    Love that idea of all the custom modes on the iPhone I def need to turn them on and set them up. Thank you so much for being so vulnerable.     Great video ! I love that you shared the realistic side of habit breaking… Personally, I struggle with phone addiction, so I’m going to implement your set up today ! The tricky thing about it is that some of the content I consume I do actually love and it fills my cup, but of course in the midst of it, I sometimes fall into the endless scrolling and afterwards I feel so guilty…

    As a dental hygiene student… please please PLEASE only chew sugar free gum. If you are consuming around 2 packages a day of a gum that is NOT sugar free you are more at risk and likely to develop cavities. Also, do you experience clicking or popping of your jaw? Any pain from your jaw? Chewing gum this often may lead to TMJ issues and can lead to pain and more frequent headaches.
    Just food for thought! Love your content

    Hi, Katie, I absolutely adore your honesty and this was really inspirational. I quit smoking, alcohol and coffee all 40 days within each other in 2020. I started drinking coffee in 2022. All of it I used to manage my huge anxiety and it seems like you do the same- I drank coffee because I was tired from all the anxiety and poor sleep, and I slept poorly because I would have a couple of beers before bed and smoked a pack a day. It was crucial for me to develop self-regulating skills. I am still learning, no magic solutions. I applaud your sincerity.❤

    So relatable. I gave up energy drinks and diet soda at the back end of last year as well, agree the first days...weeks even were tough but I felt so proud when I made it through!!

    I'm only about 9 minutes in, so I don't know how it ends, but the thing that got me to quit gum was the discovery that it's not actually biodegradable. gum actually has plastics in it which is how it doesn't just dissolve in your mouth. I don't know why this isn't more widely known. I just couldn't justify that so maybe try some mints instead, or like a hard candy to suck on if you want fresh breath. Or brush your teeth more often... and see if there's a medical reason for bad breath that you can fix permanently.

    So excited for a new year with your videos! This one felt really special. Honest, human und motivating! Your truly one of my favorite creators! And I relate so much, even though we're different. But living alone in a big city with a job und juggling everything, trying to be healthy and happy and a good friend, family member and human is stressful and how to basically live a good life without needing to have bad habits for the dopamine kick is such a challenge. Anyways - just wanted to say how much I appreciate all of the work you put in your videos and how consistent you are!

    Watching this video makes me feel so insanely seen and validated. I share a lot of these "bad" habits, I eat way too much chocolate, consume way too much caffeine, and PICK MY SKIN! After a couple years of picking my acne, I've finally been able to stop, but I still continue to pick at the skin on my fingers every day, and I don't even notice until I start bleeding lol. As someone who's very goal-oriented and someone who constantly is trying to challenge myself and grow, it feels frustrating and at times humiliating to succumb to these negative habits time and time again. To all of us and our journeys, thank you for being real and raw and open and serving as a beacon of inspiration to people like myself

    a fine thought that bad habits can be coping mechanisms, and having done them, or repeating them isnt solely negative, for they can get us through something bigger. "hadnt i done those things, who knows how id be doing now" you said (or something around that) and i just think that was a lovely reminder

    I stumbled upon your channel by chance and after watching a few videos, this is the one that made me subscribe. I'm also dealing with similar struggles, wanting to change/improve and be more self-disciplined, yet be gentle with myself at the same time. It's hard though not to hate myself and give into negative self-talk and self-sabotage when I miss the mark. Sometimes I just don't have the juice and there's so much you can achieve on willpower alone. But like you, I see progress and I have to remind myself constantly of where I come from and where I got, and that it's a process. People often tell me I'm extreme and very rigid about those things when all I see is lazyness and weakness in me that I have to constantly battle against, or I would never get anywhere. It's the first time I kinda see myself on RUclips, and that it feels real.

    i just finished reading "you are a badass how to stop doubting your greatness.." by jen sincero and it also talked about bad habits and believing in yourself (something I struggle with), with finishing the book i feel ready to conquer and finally start believing in little old me. Your video will be one I come back to on those days I feel like crap. I also have a terrible coke problem lol one I need to stop. great vid!!

    Honestly it’s so refreshing to hear that someone has a similar relationship to gum as I do. I haven’t been brave enough to attempt going without or even tapering.. This video does give me hope that altering that coping skill can be possible 🎉

    I applaud the effort of changing things. I agree about not labeling behaviours in so negative of a way. Making changes are great, but doing anything in an extreme is just that. Hope you won’t be too hard on yourself.
