Because Kirk wants to win a Super Bowl and drafting my replacement instead of the top defensive player doesn’t help the team win. However Kirk made them pay top dollar, so I get that side of the argument too. If he REALLY wanted to win, he could’ve signed with them for the min and opened up another 30 mil in cap for them

first thing i said when i learned the falcons took penix, HIS AGE/EXPERIENCE, if any qb doesn't need to sit for 2 to 4 years it is him, he will be 24 on 5/8, so he will a 26/28 year old first year player when he might finally get a chance to be QB1, and even with the fact that 66 qb's started games in 2023, you don't spend a 1st rounder on the chances that your starter may get hurt

    • @kris6071
      @kris6071 12 дней назад +1

Pretty much this was a damned if you do/damned if you do pick.
Either you draft JJ at 6 and get roasted for "OMG why reach? He hasn't shown he has the ability to carry a team with his arm! Should have picked Nabers or Odunze!"
Or you draft the one of the best (possibly THE best as its a tossup between Nabers and MHJ) WR1 and you now have a legit threat from all over the field...... then you get the "OMG JJ was there at 6 WTF are they doing??? We need a QB!!"
Nabers was always the right choice. And if DJ doesn't work out, they'll play Drew Lock and more than likely draft their franchise QB next year (if he continues elevating his play) Carson Beck is a likely target.

Rodgers has won a single Super Bowl, so I suppose it was worth it. How many SB's has the Falcons, Vikings, Bengals, Bills won? Zero. I'm sure those teams would do anything for just one single SB win. I'm not saying the Falcons strategy is sound, matter of fact I think it's bad. I would be somewhat mad if I was Penix, as he could potentially not play for 2-3 years. But in the end, whatever you do as a team, if it results in a SB win, it was worth it. Not much to talk about. They called up Minnesota and put pressure on them to trade up one spot. They netted a pick and grabbed the guy they wanted.

Namely Green Bay? Namely KC. You now say he was the most pro-ready. He was not projected as a first rounder by any of you clowns. The problem is that so amny teams want their QB to play right away. That's a stupid position to take.

So stupid when they say a player is generational. Last time I checked Mahomes and Josh are still young players. Is Caleb better than them? Idiotic.

Kirk is 37 coming off an injury, also if these guys actually researched his contract they would see that his deal is really only a 2 year deal. Next year is a weak QB draft and because Kirk deal is really only a 2 year deal when you remove the fluff they would be drafting a QB next year anyway so why not get a Elite prospect now while your in the top 8! It was a good pick and these guys will look like idiots in 2 years . They act like Kirk Cousins Mahomes or something 😂😂😂 FOH ..

Joel Klatt - Who says they didn't have a plan? Kirk C is 36 coming of an injury. Chances of him getting injured at some point this year probably 15-20%. This is a good fit for Penix - He's likely to get some playing time, and if he's solid, Atlanta can move on from Cousins in a couple of years and pick up some draft choices & yes I konw he has a no-trade contract.

"Years of disappointment" for Michigan fans? 1st or 2nd in Big 10 EVERY YEAR. EVERY. FUCKING.YEAR. In a bowl game EVERY YEAR. In the playoffs a couple times (all before winning the big 1). Yeah, right...."disappointment." Like the "disappointment" when the Patriots make it to the Super Bowl for the 7,000th time in a row and OOPS, they LOSE. "Disappointing."
Try being the Jets. Or Illinois, or Indiana, or Rutgers. Then tell me how Michigan suffers "years of disappointment."

Cousins is a righty. Penix a lefty. You build around your QB. How can you do that in Atlanta? So dumb. Beyond dumb.

Joel Klatt thought Justin Field was going to be good
Joel Klatt thought Zach Wilson was 1st round material
Joel Klatt thought Kenny Pickett was the best QB from that draft
Joel Klatt thought CJ Stroud was not worth 2nd pick to Texas because of his S2 cog. score
must be nice to have these guys' jobs.. only about 50% right yet they get to keep on making money on TV

Why is everyone acting like Kirk Cousins is some kind of elite QB? 2 really good seasons and 1 playoff win in 12 years. Maybe Atlanta thought if he had some competition it might spur him on to do better than he has. I seem to remember Cousins was being bombarded by the press and fans at one time (2020?), and then he went on a winning streak. Maybe they're looking for that kind of impetus by drafting Penix.
Or maybe it was just dumb.
