Your Defense is lacking and killing the weaker Soldiers and have Jowy and the other stronger Highland Generals come close is not what you want. b) More important, to reach a wounded Ridley quicker pick Huan/Chaco and a cavallary General like Flik or Kiba because Flight makes a cavallary unit even quicker and you reach him a turn earlier. They way in the video is just much more lucky than needed, normally Ridley cannot survive this many engagements.

There is also another way of saving Ridley, I forgot to tell. You have to move him to the lowest part of the map, but that is also risky. When he's in the lowest part of the map, it will count as he were able to withdraw from battle, and the battle will succeed.
Best way I find is to put Chaco in Kiba's unit, since he starts off at the front of your army. You can reach Ridley within 2 turns of your army deploying if you're lucky.
The most weird thing about that part, is how the strategist of the enemy army has shown inside the player's castle to deliver a letter, and leave like there is no problem, maybe he doesn't show up his face so much in battles to be known.

I was amazed way back when I pulled this off. I had no idea if it was possible or not, but I kept resetting till I finally managed to save him. Was pretty much horses + luck. Love how many little secrets this game had.
i played through this game a couple of times and never knew you could even lose ridley in this battle. then i came on the internet and discovered a lot of people never knew you could save him. it was an odd feeling.

Due to the inability of one body bearing more than 1 true rune, he created his clones as vessels for the runes. It's unknown if there are more other than luc and sasarai

Circle Rune supposedly has powers of authority, order, balance & stagnation and is considered to be extremely powerful. Hikusaak wanted to collect other true runes and used various schemes to obtain them, the greatest example is the destruction of the Rune Gate Village by Harmonia to obtain the powerful Gate Rune. Hikusaak is considered to be one of the most powerful creatures in Suikoden world, but hasnt been seen for many years. Quite possibly Hikusaak & Harmonia were planned at one point to be the penultimate bad guy, but who knows? Certainly the allusions that Harmonia is manipulating events exist in many Suikoden games. Windy (head magician of the Scarlet Moon Empire, Suikoden took control of one half of the Gate Rune and its dimension summoning powers, while the other half with its teleporting & time manipulation powers is in possession of Leknaat (various Suikoden games). the characters that appear by your bed in order to wake you up are tottaly random or they show up according to their usage on parties? I never saw the Bonaparte girl waking me up, only Ellie, Nanami and sometimes Bolgan.
There were one game where he said the reason he does that, I just don't remember if was the first or the second game. I guess he doesn't mind whose side he fights for.
Highlander are not the bad guy anyway, the bad guy in this game is blight family, riou&jowy destroy blight family with their own way. so it doesn't matter if leon in riou's or jowy's side
i had the enemy on the run so i didnt save ridley right away just tried to kill everything on the map. turns out after a while you retreat automatically and leave ridley behind
I had no idea if it was truly possible to save him when I did this battle but I noticed they missed him a lot and wondered if I could reach him with all cavalry. After resetting a few times I actually saved him. XD It's amazing how they actually made that possible. He just sits in his room forever as a pointless character though. :P

it's possible i managed it once. but when i tried it again this time i failed 3 times and after that i quit and let him be taken

This battle was cake for me, I got so lucky. My Ridley had critical happen about for or five times.. so he crushed everything lol. It was nice.

Kind of strange how Sasarai's unit has a unique sprite on the map, but looks just like a regular Highland cavalry unit in the cinematic. :-/

How did you made your Jeane one hit Jowy's cavalry? When I tried on mine it was made no scratch at all.

this is base on luck. I've succeed on my 4th attempt. Make sure Kiba, Chaco & Huan on 1 unit. Ridley even destroyed Seed unit with his critical.
