Bravo!!! Great performance. So few views but so well done.
I was an amateur musician starting at age 10 playing the trumpet. I continued all through high school 14 to 18. I heard multiple jazz bands live Don Ellis, Buddy Rich at Disneyland in a small setting where as a 16 year old aspiring jazz trumpeter talking with the Buddy Rich trumpet soloist between sets. Jeff Stout later became a faculty member in a university jazz department.
In college I went on tour with a musical variety show playing in the pit band 2 trumpets a woodwind player a trombone drum bass and guitar. I played high notes and really excelled. But I didn't ever go professional I wanted to but I had a girl then I supported my family.
But listening to this I realized I did play jazz trumpet professionally in one of my past lives. Most likely the one just before this current life. It could have been I played in a symphony Orchestra but I think it was the many big bands in the 30s and 40s. In this life I was born in 1954. I was truly transported listening to this.

    Related to Queen at all?

Every single bit of popular music after the 1920s has something to do with this piece, but if youre thinking about the relation with bohemian rhapsody specifically, well the concept of a rhapsody is FAR FAR FAAAR older than queen, it is a classical term for a long piece that has multiple layers and differences to it. Rhapsody in blue is well... a rhapsody.

Throwing away what Gershwin actually wrote is a bizarre decision.
Why even bother if you're going to play your own music instead of his? 🙄

Gershwin's first performance of this work was largely improvised due to the composer having not completed composing the piano part yet at the time of the premiere. If anything, this is likely less improvised than Gershwin's own first performance
