One of the best Interpretations of Gerschwins Rhapsody in Blue that I have ever heard....Wonderful orchestra soloists, beautiful collabaration with orchestra and Soloist!!!! Just grand!!!
I didn’t know that Gershwin had an extended version of Rhapsody In Blue. If it doesn’t exist, then, I am sure that George Gershwin would be proud of this performance. Bravo to the conductor/pianist!
Great music, but did he save a baby from a burning fire or something? I wasn't aware he was a HERO. Maybe he is also a teacher since I saw a billboard last week say that all teachers are heroes. That word used to mean something
Truly made me cry with that awesome soft jazz solo bringing back this piece and the genre to its african american roots, one of the best versions in the entire history of this piece!
It was standard for soloists to provide their own cadenzas in the nineteenth century. Gershwin used the same tradition: Grofe's original orchestration was only for the orchestral musicians
Wayne Marshall brought out the underlying engine of Rhapsody In Blue which was Jazz, which The African-American KNEW what it meant. It helped the blackman cope with life in racist USA. The African-American used Gospel on Saturdays and Sundays to seek God, and from Monday To Friday used Jazz to cope with everyday life in a racist America. So you can feel that Rhapsody In Blue has soul in it.!. Wayne played his heart out there! . The guy has got soul!
Quelle belle surprise! Merci beaucoup !!!
I first heard Rhapsody in Blue conducted by Leonard Bernstein when I was 12, many decades ago and I’ve been listening ever since💕 I have to say, this interpretation of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue was the most creative and jazzy/classical piece I’ve ever heard. What a trip!!
deformar una obra me parece absurdo. Me gusta escuchar la version original del maestro Gershwin, que merito tiene deformar una obra, porque si tantas ganas de hacer musica, hagan sus propias obras.
Bravo Maestro Wayne Marshall. This is the best version of Rhapsody in Blue I've ever seen! "Velvet gloves, iron fist" playing! Sweet but "no nonsense', masterful, entertaining and enriching enthusiasm! You've made my day! Thank you! And thank you as well for your inspiration back in 1998 at the Bregenz Festspiele for those performances of Porgy and Bess.
Maestro Wayne Marshall’s rehearsed though innovative improvisation of the Rhapsody in Blue is a very eloquent, and grand piece turning the Rhapsody into an extremely expressive variation yet retaining Gershwin’s masterwork. His varied swings away from the true melody still retaining a full measure of the original is very surprising throughout and spellbinding. His incorporation of taking pieces of the Rhapsody into still more elements of a jazzed style was so on point bringing us and the members of the orchestra to look fixedly at him and listen to the marvelous interpretations of what was a very different manner in which to approach the piece. A totally enjoyable experience especially when he motioned for the orchestra to join him in Gershwin’s finalization of the music. Marshall is a master of his craft deserving great praise for this variation.
This performance is a perfect 21st century mirror to bernstein's 1959 performance with the columbia orchestra (the best recording of this piece ever imo). Magical performance
Great interpretation, superb musicians one and all. First class audio and video qualities too. When I compare to Leonard Bernstein and Andre Previn versions, great as they were, Wayne Marshall's performance leaves me thinking I am hearing a whole new 'Rhapsody' - pretty exciting. Thanks
The 10 down votes are from armchair critics that know nothing about music, jazz, piano, technique, music composition, improvisation, jazz history, and have no class. This is one of the best musical things I have ever heard. Period. Fight me.
Without a doubt, Wayne's personal musical voice is equal to that of Leonard Bernstein. In addition, the entire orchestra in both ensemble balance and solos is perfection, as is the video and audio production.
Ok, two years ago, I stated Maestro Marshall had me until minute 6:00, then no thanks. I just listened to the performance again and I now am love with the entire piece. What on earth could have I been thinking!!!
Wonderful. I've heard this song at the age of 10 years . Soft and strong at the same time. Great performance by the musicians on this classic from George Gershwin.
First, I had to check to make sure my video playback wasn't set at 1.25 speed. I'm not accustomed to hearing this piece played at such quick a pace, but I ended up loving it---especially Marshall's little variations here and there. Great job!
This is excellence personified. Rhythmic, exciting and bursting with life, and unique and very intelligent interpretation with wonderful beat changes and sense of style. Gershwin himself would have been supremely impressed! 💯❤️
oh god it is always those two parts that is so unique and blends well, the gliss for the intro to reach that high beautiful note and the brass doing the melody at 0:51
Bravo and cheers from Montréal
WWWWWWWoauuh!
the cadenza was of a staggeringly genius level
A British pianist, conducting a French orchestra completely sent Gershwin into the stratosphere!
Wayne, you never cease to amaze me!
One of the best Interpretations of Gerschwins Rhapsody in Blue that I have ever heard....Wonderful orchestra soloists, beautiful collabaration with orchestra and Soloist!!!! Just grand!!!
No doubt! Thank you Mr Wayne and company.
THE CADENZAS!!!! You see it in the musicians, Maestro Marshall did an unforgetable homage to Gershwin.
Incredible . . .... !!! . . . .Bravo Maestro . .. !!! . .. Thank You. ... . . !!!
I didn’t know that Gershwin had an extended version of Rhapsody In Blue. If it doesn’t exist, then, I am sure that George Gershwin would be proud of this performance. Bravo to the conductor/pianist!
This sounds jazz-improvised and not some original extended version.
Inspired and inspiring.
His beautiful playing went through my body!!!!
The improvisations (of course), the conducting, the orchestra : this is the best Rhapsody in Blue I ever heard ... if not the best ever.
Top man who understands his craft. Wayne Marshall, absolute Hero
Great music, but did he save a baby from a burning fire or something? I wasn't aware he was a HERO. Maybe he is also a teacher since I saw a billboard last week say that all teachers are heroes. That word used to mean something
Is he not from Barbados?

😍
Fantastic rendition! Wayne tickles the Ivory and conducts with his eyes...
What a dazzling cadenza thrown in there! I just LOVE when the conductor sits down and totally blow your mind with an instrument.

Yes, truly beautiful!

Apt comment!
I have fallen in love with Rhapsody in Blue all over again.
Original JAZZ !! Bravo !!

I’m sitting here with happy tears in my eyes. This was the most WILD and REFRESHED version of this piece I’ve every heard and I LOVED IT!!!!✨🤩✨

The best ever version of the Rhapsody

And that crazy elegance

The music cannot represent modern Western civilization. Modernity should be about rejecting shameless tonal music just like Gershwin's.
Channeling Gershwin! This honors the Soul of Gershwin like nothing I've ever heard before honors Gershwin. Bravo!

What a fun and exciting performance, just might be my new favourite interpretation!
Commanding performance of an old favorite; and my first LP as a 12 year old!

Absolutely totally agree with you here.
100% agree. Wayne is fantastic.
At 5:58 I stared to sob in joy, and asked why I never head anything like this. 100% amazing
Unbelievable.
No, the tempo isn’t my favorite, so wah wah
Bravo, Take that Leonard!
This is truely so beautiful!
The most beautiful version yet
Totally free and totally Gershwin !
Wow he just makes you want to listen and listen and listen he's a genius

Wow, Wayne Marshall. I am a fan for real now. That was one of the best renditions of Rhapsody in Blue I've heard.
Incredible! Our Mom Eden also played this piece with the same beat "jazz". No orchestra just piano. Love this version.
Wonderful. I've heard this song at the age of 10 years . Soft and strong at the same time. Great performance by the musicians on this classic from George Gershwin.
Fine, original, soft and modern arrenge and interpretation of the most beautifull of Gershwin.
he is in all senses of the words a genious!
