  • This is number four in my cue, the Ensoniq Fizmo ;-) It's one of my first synths I bought and it can be found in many of my first electro songs until I took a longer nap in 2004. Now I rediscover it again :-)
I used it together with the following FX pedals:
Digitech Polara, Digitech Obscura, and Alesis Ampliton.
The signal goes via a small Behringer mixer straight into the pc.
To create the complete song I recorded several tracks, each mainly played live using a Miditech keyboard. The final song was then mastered with just a bit EQ and compression on some tracks.
Well, I decided to go back to the basics, but at the same time make something useful for the synth community and do a kind of competition (I like competitions;-). What's my best synth for ambient music :-)

A stunning synthesizer, one of the best for creating rich complex sounds and textures. Rare and expensive, unfortunately.

Let me share the knowledge I downloaded while in a trance-like state. While listening and quite unexpected, I gradually went into a meditative-like state of weightlessness. All was silent then from somewhere music began to make itself present not by the speakers, but from within the center my head. The quality of the sound which possessed unimaginable beauty, can not be described.
The movie, Raiders of the Lost Arch was being played back to me, the suggestion that the "Ark of the Covenant" most likely contained the Fizmo engine's DNA. Although the Fizmo synths has few components found within the Covenant, the manufacturer has cautioned "Laypersons and technicians - shall not, under any circumstance, open the Fizmo." The disclaimer continues, "If you should ever glance at it, you would loose your eye sight and then become insane."
This is what I saw while in this state.
Dude, that tis some powerful stuff you are working with and present. Modern-day technology can not come close in reproducing those sounds and there is good reason why. This new founded information came to me (downloaded) while I was listing to your music. If I may continue to what I was told during this trance or meditation. The Fizmo engine was a result of an experiment of fission within a reactor, (bombarding molecules) completely unintentional, yes, by accident and was incidentally not created in this universe. I am unable to give you a time of this event as the entities maintain, that time where this was created is not what we experience here.
The Ensonic corporation strangely enough had little to do with the technology of the Fizmo. The technology or should I say technologies found within the Fizmo came from a contractor not an employee, who was an outsider. This contractor got his job by answering an ad, that he would work for no pay until all was satisfied. However when the project was finished, he never was seen again nor did he pickup his paychecks. After unsuccessfully trying to contact the contractor, Ensonic assembled a team of 2 IC-board level technicians who after sometime failed to reverse engineer the heart of the Fizmo. All chips sets and components appeared to be those that were available and used in other Ensonic synths, however upon forensic examination, these ICs were labeled by US/Japanese manufactures including those made by Ensonic, however, the pin in and out values were not on spec. with those specs from the manufacturer having the exact labels. Crude MRI and more advanced X-rays were made on these chips by the chip manufacturer to find that not only the pin in and out values were changed but also the connection points within the chip were indeed different. The next examination were to slice the chip or try to de-laminate the chip to see how they were changed. Both methods failed as in trying to open the chip, in the attempt, the infrastructure was damaged. One method of removing the resins and plastics which housed the the chip, this procedure did show that these chips were indeed altered. The question is, how could these chips be altered when the chips were seemingly the identical to the originals?
I am somewhat apprehensive on listening again to your work on this instrument, as I do not know what may happen. I am exhausted.

I will have to again reiterate what is possibly blasphemy and a sin, if I had this instrument I would place it on an alter on highly polished marble enshrined with candles and all which is beautiful. Upon entering the room, I would gently fall to my knees and worship this beast. I know I am wrong and perhaps will suffer the consequences of what I feel, but let it be known.

.... can never understand why the market didn't take to this fantastic 'last' synth from Ensoniq ... maybe it was too much for most in terms of getting your head around the programming > outcome, but I'd love one. Very £££ now of course!, so hope you still have yours Christian and view it as a keeper .... 😎🎹🎹🎹🎶👍

First of all...FANTASTIC track!!! Sounds wonderful! Secondly, it is interesting that many folks feel Ensoniq rushed this board out to the public before finalizing a few more things. What those are I am not sure. But many feel it was an unfinished product and a bit erratic. The other thing is that by the time this board came out Ensoniq had mostly completed their deal with E-Mu through Creative Labs to be purchased. So perhaps they did not wish to put any more money into marketing the synth or into updates, etc. It's a rare synth with loads of capabilities, but was likely not perfect and ultimately Creative-Emu moved onto other things.

Many thanks for your nice comment :-) I own my Fizmo since it came out and never felt it was an unfinished product. It was just market to the wrong target musicians. You know, if a product got a bad reputation the internet will never forget that and the majority will always agree. For me it was the cornerstone of my music that time and a lot of emotions and memories are connected to the Fizmo. It's one of the very few synths I will never ever sell!

@@christianssonicspaces494 Thank you for your response, yes, possibly the Fizmo is one of the seventh wonders. I almost want to get on my knees and worship this thing. And of course, your music did lots to help me make that statement of worshiping. I may have to go to confession to atone for what I just stated.

I have UVI Vintage Vault 3, which contains some Fizmo samples. UVI made some gorgeous patches with these samples, but unfortunately there just aren’t that many of them. I suppose it’s among the next-best things to having a real one. Man, I love the layout of that board. The color scheme is wonderful.

    • @bobcatt2294
      @bobcatt2294 3 года назад +1

@@MatthewChristianMurray I believe that particular synth (The Vault 3) was an attempt to continue along the lines of the outsider contractor. Soon after the Ensoniq Corp started to intensify their development of custom chips and boards, however the level of achievement of the Fizmo was unfortunately never attained and possibly, we may never experience this degree of "unworldly" (not of this world) development in our lifetimes.

As far as software, I think modern wavetable synths like Serum and Vital get close to this since they are similar in synthesis.
