    As a former Canadian Force veteran, it was nice to hear one of our boys talking and chatting in the game. At the recruiting centre they first asked if I like fishing and camping, then offered me infantry. I said no. Then they offered me to go armour, and again I said no, those guys need to be tough, and I wasn't. I ended up as a technician on the C-130 and our Sea King helicopters. But once while at a training base, I did have a Leopard drive past me, and you could feel the vibration in your boots. I stood in awe and watched him continue on then wheel around another corner and out of sight. So proud of our boys and girls in uniform. Thanks for this special video.

    Fun fact: The namesake of Kuso's regiment, Lord Strathcona's Horse, was also one of the same men who oversaw the building of Canada's first transcontinental railway. His real name was Donald Smith, he'd previously been the head of the Hudson's Bay Company, and he co-founded the Canadian Pacific Railway after he and his primary business partner George Stephen had made a fortune on building the St. Paul, Minneapolis, and Manitoba Railway. Doing so, however, very nearly ruined both of them; Smith and Stephen sank literally every cent they had, put up literally everything they owned down to the clothes on their backs, and crisscrossed the world begging for loans in order to fund and build the railway, the vast majority of which was used to blast through the Canadian Shield along the north shore of Lake Superior and climb through the Rockies and the Selkirks in British Columbia. Ultimately though, they did it, and Smith was even the man who drove in the last spike, the moment of which is commemorated in a famous photograph.

    Summertime at Ft. Hood was a bitch working on the abrams. We had pretty much a standing order we had to where our nomex gloves just to touch the tanks bc they were frying pans. I get the diesels are more responsive, but the abrams whine is awesome. I still remember the first time we heard one start up in the motor pool at Ft. Knox. The biggest issue with the turbines was maintenance. Theyre extremely finicky and it never failed that all but two tanks would be deadlined by the end of our gunneries. So everyone had to hotseat off the two tanks still up and running which one just so happened to always be mine lol… it helped having one of our mechs as a roommate in the barracks. A case of beer does wonders when you need parts to replace busted ones you find while you pmcs for two weeks before heading to the field.

    • @NMJZ
      @NMJZ 5 месяцев назад +4

      As a 91A myself, I can confirm that the Abrams is a temperamental girl if not maintained correctly. And your story reminds me of the time I almost cooked myself trying to extricate a hydraulic pump from a pack that was only shut down for a few minutes. -11/10 would do again.
      Always nice to see a fellow mechanic,
      salutations from Ft. Stewart.

    After seeing all the insane footage in the past 20 years, and especially the ukraine lately, it terrifies me how vulnerable armored vehicles have become as technology is almost outpacing it.
    Props to you Kuso for having the balls to be a part of those crews.

    A real treat to have a tank commander on.
    As for what he was saying about differences between some MBT's of the modern era comes down to crew training and effectively, who sees the enemy 1st/takes the shot 1st. I dont know where i heard that before, but i recognize that latter part from i think ww2 but i may be misremembering.
    I wonder if he has ever been in a Challenger 2 and his thoughts on it, being the only major deviation in western tank design (i include the Japanese T90 (i think its the T90 off top of my head) and the Korean (Black Prince? cant remember))
    Only reason is the only difference apart from armament & main gun, out of all of them she can take quite the beating, especially from the eastern tanks (from what sources i could see)
