Daf 55 coupe owner's experiences (Dutch with English subtitles)

- Hello there!
Join me on a ride in this Daf 55 coupe from 1971. Daf was a Dutch car company that was bought by Volvo. It had not the coolest image. Is this coupe different?

I had a DAF 55 in the UK (England) for years and it was SUPERB and virtually indestructible apart from replacement belts. Quick off the mark, really nice to drive, good road feedback to driver and just an all round great car. Only sold it because we moved from Northern England to London when I lived about 300 yards from Ealing Broadway tube station and could get anywhere and everywhere dirt cheap back then by public transport. Wish I still had it, even after owning a whole line of great sports cars. The DAF had real character.

I remember seeing one driving around Peterborough in the UK in the early 90s, and instantly fell in love with it. Also all Dafs always remind me of the TV show Van Der Valk and its theme tune.

Fabulous cars. To my mind very pretty. I had the 66. Faster than a Triumph Dolomite. 787kg is an amazing weight. Modern cars are designed like tanks. Thank you.

Ik ben de eigenaar van Dolvje hier te zien op You Tube . De Volvo 66 heeft wel een rembekrachtiging en veiligheid bij het starten , je kan hem alleen in neutraal starten . Bij het stoplicht is het altijd lachen , het pedaal op het metaal en de DAF/Volvo peert hem er tussen uit de anderen roerbakkend achter latend ..... Trouwens als je nu rijexamen doet in een automaat krijg je de beperking 78 voor automaat op je rijbewijs . De DAF in dit filmpje is een jeugdherinnering van mijn , in mijn straat stond er precies zo één , prachtig !

Als coupé is hij eigenlijk best mooi, in ieder geval niet lelijker dan wat de concurrentie in die tijd deed (Renault Fuego, Citroën Roxette, Fiat).
De auto is ontworpen door Giovanni Michelotti en dat was indertijd geen kleine naam. Je kan ook goed zien dat het een Italiaans ontwerp is.

had 33 44 and a 66 friend had a 343 volvo with same drive train because volvo bought them out i think and yes it was just as quick in reverse bloody good cars 44 estate had loads of room in it my dad used one as a van and if i remember right you didnt buy a 55 something to do with different transmission set up i think or smaller belts cant just remember

4:10 - I'm amused that it appears that the host of this video has to be instructed how to drive a car with an automatic transmission. Had he really never done that before?
well it is different for other kinds of automatic transmissions normally you have a foot at the brake here you have you foot slightly on the gas to start it thats it :)

I had that very same binnacle on my Zündapp "brommer" for years and now it is still on a tuned Zündapp 80cc Motorcycle I built up later. It still looks wonderfull. Proof can be found on this page: www.brassee.com/motorcycles.html . What goes around comes around anyway. By now such thick rims surrounding car dails are all the rage again! :-)

De T in 55T betekent Touring
Ik ben ook een Daf 66 Coupe aan het adopteren op het moment. Heb hem al op naam staan. Maar er moet erg veel aan gebeuren. Hij is licht creme bruin van kleur en ik noem hem daarom Coffee. De auto heeft jaren lang in een opslag gestaan dus er moet aan gelast worden, de remmen moeten vervangen worden en de variomatic moet vervangen worden etc etc. Maar het motortje loopt als een zonnetje. Ik ga hem heel goed verwennen met nieuwe olie en filters en dan wil ik er nooit meer afscheid van nemen.

De T in "55T" staat voor "two-seater". Voorin kunnen twee volwassenen, achterin kun je eigenlijk alleen (niet al te grote) kinderen laten zitten. Door de schuine achterruit hou je het daar als volwassene niet erg lang uit.

The T in "55T" stands for "two-seater". Two adults can sit in the front, in the back you can actually only (not too big) children. The slanted rear window keeps you there as an adult not very long.

The door windows, the 1968 don't have fitting as a soupe should be.
