At the time of the ban, it was only used to summon Apex Avian in Bird Up. Nobody summoned the Barrier Statue because Avian was generally better especially against Board Breakers like Evenly, so the purpose of the ban was simply to make the endboard weaker. But even with that in mind, Simorgh could probably come back without problems.
When I got back into ygo, my first game was with my friend vs my floo deck. I didn't realize how toxic it was back then! That said, he was playing gusto, so it did a fat load of nothing.
Simorgh is the card I personally call "Simorgh, Bird of Big Chicken Loops" also one card that would be cool if you looked at would be Genex Ally Birdman

I like WIND it's has lots of fun cards. Which is why I've never lost to this statue.
