- Girish believes that in India, education is the enemy of sports. We’ve all been kids and loved playing sports, but as parents, we focus too much on education.
In this talk, Girish throws light upon how he's building a new avenue for creating respect for sportspersons and celebrating the country’s champions. Girish Mathrubootham is the founder and CEO of Freshworks, one of the world’s fastest-growing SaaS product company, winning the Economic Times Startup of the Year in 2016, the Business Standard Startup of the Year in 2017, and now part of India’s unicorn club. The homegrown customer-engagement software maker has a suite of products, catering to more than 1,50,000 businesses worldwide including big names like Honda, Cisco, Toshiba, Bridgestone, University of Pennsylvania, and Hugo Boss. Girish is part of the Product Council for NASSCOM, the trade association of Indian software companies.
Girish also runs a charitable trust to promote grassroots football in India, which backs FC Madras. The professional football club will compete in the U13 and U15 divisions of the I-League. I don’t like football just because majority of the world follows it. I love it anyway. But India ( Indian education) really needs to consider that even carpentry is a profession and that a good carpenter also can make what an MBA or Engineer cannot make. How nice it would be in India to see a Vehicle mechanic make as much as a doctor or be able to at least own what he/she wants to have in this short life.
The West appreciates anything which is unique and that is why they excel in anything, while we think only degrees make us human beings
I would love to see more people get in to trades in India as you rightly pointed out..in North America for example they have excellent carpenter, machinist, electrician etc..
in India trades are looked down upon by the parents.. hopefully this attitude changes as India's economy grows at a rapid pace and we have to match that growth by building

If they were born in a nation like Spain or England, they would already have been playing in a national league.

Few days back, I saw a video of youngest sharing his experience/feelings of being in national football club. There he was asked for his caste and he was refused to say it, still they kicked him out. He said this went anchor asked him, have you felt discriminated by caste.

What India need to do, is to develop a competitive football league, and include the talent that is in the U.K, because it doesn't matter how talented you are, you are not going to get far in this country if you have Indian coloured skin.
