Here’s part 1 of a 2 part caricature demo from Court Jones! The first part walks you through the various design steps of caricaturing using the famous Napoleon Bonaparte painting as a master study. You’ll get to see how Court makes creative design decisions throughout the demo to simplify the most distinctive parts of the face, body and background with the end result being a humorous recognizable caricature grounded in realism. Be sure to subscribe and turn on notifications so you don’t miss part 2 when he paints his Napoleon caricature.

I love how just by enhancing a few key features, a caricature can look so real and beautiful

It's a bit saddening that this kind of video gets the less attention! It's just 30 minutes and it has SO MUCH amazing advice, and seeing the fluidity on they way he works, woah! Master skills, absolutely. Learned a lot.

Very interesting to see the process Court uses to get his result. I like his attitude of using acquired knowledge and techniques to change your strategy on the fly. They are just tools in your toolbox, and you don’t have to stick to The Rules. Great work!

To me, caricatures can celebrate the features we all love and identify about a person. Sure they can be mean spirited especially political caricatures, but to me atleast I find more appreciation of the individuals made into the caricature.

That was what I thought too, till I took Courts course on caricature. There I learned that you make a person look more like himself- it is a loving way of observing and admitting that the features are beautiful as they really are, embracing the likeness of someone to himself and not to some ideals of printed magazines.
