I'm not convinced the forward prospects will translate into an offensive NHL juggernaut, as opposed to our defense which will be solid. Having said that, I do believe management will improve quickly through strategic trades and free agent signings to complement Suzuki-Caufield-Dach-Anderson-Slavkoski.
I tend to agree. I think the young D core was already exceptional before Reinbacher. Made the pick questionable. Lots of forward depth in the pool but most are questionable as top 6 difference makers
Listen, I went to Laval every game last year and I think no one understand how talented Emil Heineman is. I swear. He’s a big, smart, skilled, physical guy with a great shot and speed. If Roy, Heineman, and Beck end up in Laval next year, not only the Rocket will be a top team in the AHL, but I think we have a chance to grab the Calder Cup.
if slaf still qualifies as a prospect, he's the only one with first line upside. we have a ton of middle six guys. what we need in our prospect pool is a top line forward. this is us in three years: caufield-suzuki-slafkovsky farrell-dach-newhook mesar-beck-roy kapanen-davidson-heineman hutson-reinbacher guhle-mailloux xhekaj-barron monty dobes rohrer, tuch, engstrom tbh, i think we make some trades in the meantime, accounting for harris' absence, and kidney's, and anderson's, and RHP's. i chose three years because that's when it's worth buying out gallagher. i assume our 2024 1st will be in the lineup. if fowler is ready, he shares the net with dobes and monty moves on. i won't be surprised if one of farrell/mesar is moved.
No, our forward prospect pool isn't considered "So gOoD"; It's simply not. Not great either, it's just okay (or "good" at best, only if they progress A LOT this year, which isn't a guaranty at all). But as long as Hughes keeps on signing the right players with such great value/discounts, I am confident that if the team happens to be missing a few major pieces at the end of the rebuild (like a 1a/1b center, a big productive winger, etc.), we'll have the cap space to acquired and/or trade for one. It's the main factor that gives me hope. That and I feel that we will end up with a 1a/1b goaltending duo like Boston had a few years ago (and so avoid screwing promising postseason because of a single goalie injury, since we'll have two with equivalent skills; and I feel that we already have both of those goalies in our system (whether Monty can get there or not, we have plenty from this year's draft alone). IF RB can become a top 2 D on his side, all the other Ds we have will slot very well into a top 6-7. So basically, I feel that we might ALREADY have our full D core and Goalie tandem of the futur in our system. We'll know quite a bit more after the 23-24 season. If it's the case, than it become easier to focus entirely on our forward group by trades and through the 2024 draft. If by some miracle we have the opportunity to pick in the top 5 again, Ivan Demidov would be THE guy to get to start being competitive. He'll be a superstar I'm sure of it!
We have a couple decent prospects, i wouldn't say our forward prospect pool is SO GOOD! In fact, id say our offense is quite far from being good, not to mention SO GOOD! I really expected at the end of the season that we were going to take a step or two in the right direction this off season, and we would be much better, but we're not, we added Newhook, that's pretty much it. We missed out on 2 or possibly even 3 insanely offensive forwards who will dominate the NHL for the next 15-20 years, it'll just be like when we play Ottawa, and it hurts to see Tkachuk playing for the Sens, when he could have been a Hab, well this is going to be the same, except we didnt just miss out on one really goodplayer, we missed at least 3. Slaf is gonna get caught with his head down and he's gonna have a short career, I was actually hoping they would package Slaf up and go after Lafrenierre, we seemed to have a lot of good trade proposals earlier, we had talks of LaFrenierre, PLD, Im not a PLD fan, but if it was have him or no one, id take him, i was hoping we'd spend the $8M he wanted on another offensive forward, but nope, they got Newhook... I like Roy, and I do like Mesar, but he is small, and we dont even know how he will do in the AHL. I lost all confidence in this season after the shit draft we had. We needed offense, and we got 3 goalies, 3 defensemen (the one that we used our 5th overall pick on), he had THREE goals last year, and 3 forwards, drafted really low. But everyone is saying Reinbacher's going to be this offensive threat, come on, if he ain't doing it in college, what do u expect at the NHL level??? I dont mean to be a bummer, but keep your expectations low, i argued with some idiot the other day, he said we will have TEN 20 goal scorers this year!!! LOLOLOL, i still literally laugh out loud at that. Im almost 50, and the Habs haven't had anywhere near ten 20 goal guys in my entire life, that's with teams that couldn't not win the cup, they were that good. But this team, this is going to set offensive records. lol. Some people, it's fine to be optimistic, i wish i could be too, but be realistic. Dach 18 goals Caufield if he stays healthy 40 goals IF HE STAYS healthy, Suzuki-25 Newhook-14 Monahan 17 (If he stays healthy) Anderson-22 Hoffman 13 RHP- 17 Gallagher 17 Slafkovsky-14 Ylonen 10 That's all i can think of right now, and these ARE being optimistic.
Not sure there were insanely good offensive prospects available with the 31st and 37th pick. I would have loved Fantilli or Smith, but never saw either drop to 5th overall. My picks after that was either Ryan Leonard or David Reinbacher. So, I'm not disappointed with the Reinbacher selection. He isn't in college, he played as a 17-18 year old in the Swiss NL. It's a very good professional league.
you believe there were "insanely offensive forwards who will dominate the NHL for the next 15-20 years" available at 31 and 37 ? Who? I'm not sure there were any forwards better than Newhook available at those spots.
@@tchevrier I wasnt talking about the newhook trade, i was talking about the reinbacher pick. Well that was bull shit, we all know that was Michkov, or Leonard, not reinbacher. THAT was what i was saying. You are overly optimistic. Beck , Masar didn’t dominate in juniors. How could you consider them promising. Farrell didn’t impress in his NHL first fewer games. I’m not as optimistic as you. Sorry.
It was Mesar's first year in North America. Beck was doing great until he got traded and then took a secondary shutdown role leading his team to the Memorial Cup and excelling in the playoffs. Farrell wasn't ready for the NHL out of the NCAA will need to add some strength. You should adjust your perspective.
The biggest reason we drafted mesar was because of his synergy with slajkovsky. Until both of them are set in the NHL and playing on the same line, we won't know what mesar's ceiling will be. Still 2 years away
