  • X-Force #10 finds the mutant covert ops team deep in the heart of Terra Verde, where their sentient plant techno life has captured complete control of the nation, and is threatening to expand. It’s a welcome return to form for Benjamin Percy, Joshua Cassara, Guru-eFX and the creative team, as X-Force continues a top tier run through the Dawn of X.
    Today I'll answer:
    + What is the Anti-Krakoa, and what does it mean for X-Force handling threats to Krakoa?
    + Can Beast be redeemed?
    + Should Jean Grey stay on X-Force?
    Spoilers for discussed comics may follow!

    • How Does Excalibur #1 ...
    X-Force #10 opens with Wolverine, Domino and Quentin Quire deep in the heart of Terra Verde. Since it’s been a minute since previous X-Force issues were released, Terra Verde is a fictional South African country, whose name translates to a very on the nose “Green Earth.” In X-Force the nation was revealed as an upcoming developer of flower-based pharmaceutical tech rivaling Krakoa’s, although following the threat of man-plant hybrids, X-Force - at the behest of Hank McCoy - effectively tried to destroy their work.
    Interesting development that Terra Verde’s plant tech runs back hundreds of years. There’s a definite angle to the story here of X-Force infiltrating indigenous culture and pretty violently weeding out the threat for the benefit of Krakoa’s security, continuing to add the morally vacuous accusations of the nation’s leadership.

    I'm very happy Beast finally got some pushback for his actions here. I know the internet is going to have a field day with the Logan and Jean stuff at the end, but I'm more concerned where the team goes next. You would think Quintin is probably getting tired of getting killed every other issue

    I think that Xavier knows about Hank. Think about it. Xavier is said to routinely make backups of supposedly EVERYONE's psyche in order for the resurrections protocols. This would suggest he's been inside Hanks mind.

    • @codybrinson3520
      @codybrinson3520 4 года назад +1

      I’ve been theorizing the exact same thing! My guess is that, at some point, probably before the events of Dawn of X or X-Force, Xavier ordered a piece of Dark Beast’s consciousness to be transplanted into that of 616 Beast’s to ensure Krakoa’s future.

    • @Comicbookherald
      @Comicbookherald  4 года назад

      Pretty good theory. I haven't totally thought about whether Xavier actually "downloads" information from every mutant when he makes his backups. I was thinking of it more as saving information, but not necessarily parsing that himself. He'd have the opportunity of course, but otherwise this would imply he knows the details of every single mutant in the system. Wouldn't put it past Charlie, but that sounds like too much data for one guy.

    • @Comicbookherald
      @Comicbookherald  4 года назад +1

      I could also see Dark Beast transplanting himself following the previous run of Uncanny X-Men. That would actually be a pretty plausible twist. Nonetheless, I think this is the real McCoy :)

    • @Katzztar
      @Katzztar 4 года назад

      @@Comicbookherald Likely he keeps tabs on only "vital personnel" and only downloads others. Being this is first time that X-Force has his tacit approval and he had a part in forming it... I'm sure he keeps close tabs on the members of this team, if none others. Let's remember Xavier is a closet control freak that plays a hidden chess board.

    If you're still looking for more Krakin' Krakoa I have one - you should go over the history of X--Force. I just reread every modern series including the Kyle/Yost run, Remender run, Hopeless/Humphries Run, and the Spurrier run. They are all excellent and some of them could have some implications for the new Krakoa status quo.

    So, the extent of Hickman's era character development of Jean Grey, is that she enjoys threesomes. And she calls herself a Girl even though she's a woman. And wears mini skirts. Excellent...Oh wait! WE are the ones who don't "get it" according to Hickman. That is true, i don't get bad writing or bad plot seeding. If he wanted to present a Jean without the influence of the Phoenix force he could have done it in a better way. The fans aren't at fault for not "getting it". If no one gets it then it's bad writing.

      He has done a handful of reckless and disastrous things in the recent past, but I wouldn’t define him as irredeemable just yet. Many Marvel characters have done an equal or bigger amount of horrible things and they managed to redeem themselves one way or another. Plus, the last sentences in the second data page imply that his confrontation by Jean DID have an impact on him; so there’s still hope. Also, before he notices Jean floating in he acknowledges to himself that he made a big mistake.

    • @TCO_404
      @TCO_404 4 года назад

      I think it's less direct than that. It's more of a mutant take on 'free love. Everyone who gets resurrected tries to avoid conflict and pain in general, see also Domino's resurrection. By that count, the Wolverine x Jean x Cyclops thing just happened naturally as a result of that. Rather than fight over Jean in some love triangle, they resolve it in a Krokoan, way with the least amount of conflict.

    You know I have a thought what about if Jean indeed does quit x force and since she's in this relationship with Wolverine maybe she could show up in the Avengers and be part of that team that would redeem her and she can learn a thing or 2 from the Avengers especially captain America or Captain Marvel and they are recruiting and they do need more women on the team maybe she can help out there she would be quite beneficial cause I don't really think the Avengers have a psychic on their team just a thought?

      1. Their team up in x-men red.
      2. The avengers 1000000 bc had a red headed Phoenix just like Jean.

    • @anthonyhill2537
      @anthonyhill2537 4 года назад

      @Wraith Black I totally agree I believe she would probably take the spotlight away and since you brought up the Phoenix Force it probably would be bad too because I will admit she did commit 2 genocides so I guess there's problem with her joining the Avengers I just think it would be really fun if the Avengers had a psychic on their side but I totally agree with your point men it's probably for the best that she stick with the x-men she does have a lot of baggage.

    • @Comicbookherald
      @Comicbookherald  4 года назад

      I'd be surprised, but this is an interesting idea. First, Jason Aaron's run on Avengers has focused on Phoenix w/ the BC team, and teased a return with Namor. So Jean's presence would be pretty natural. Likewise, in X-Men Red, Jean was definitely the strongest mutant voice for allying with humankind, and her presence on the "all-human" team of Avengers would kind of fit that message. I don't actually see it happening because I think they'll want to keep mutants "in house" within the X-line of comics, but there's something there.

      @@Comicbookherald you know comic book Herald you have a point too that's a very good point but I just I feel like the Avengers could use somebody like Jean Grey's caliberthe mutants do have so many psychics on their island right now but I also see your point that perhaps marvel would want to keep the X-Men in their own line for the time being except if your name is Wolverine then you can be in any book you want and that's just a fact but it is a thought to consider also if the X-Men are really thinking that they're gonna to inherit the earth that would be a very good way for them to prove themselves the true inheritors of the earth because in truth if you're gonna to inherit something you're not just gonna to inherit the good stuff but you're also gonna to inherit the bad stuff too and they need to be ready for both so in conclusion they really seem not to be ready for that yet regardless of what they're saying you can't just be separate or consider yourself a separate species they're both humans it's just that one side has powers and has took a lot of crap while the other has dished out that crap my point is they have to work with people like the Avengers despite their many disagreements if they're really seriously thinking about inheriting the earth and taking on the huge massive responsibilities that come with that so the question they should ask is are they ready my personal view is they're not ready yet.
