Edit: Typed this out on my phone, touched up my comment cause it was a bit messy and disordered, anyways. Hey there, hope I can help you out with some advice. I think waiting to see how the other cpus released as their 3d counterparts is the best option before making the purchase. For now, I think waiting a bit to see if the 5600x3d is overclock-able or not is would be better if you're strictly only gaming. As for the 5800x3d, you can overclock the 5800x3d, but AMD heavily advises against it as they've stated its not designed to be overclocked. I personally plan to undervolt it when I get the 5800x3d (if it goes on sale) like I did with my 3080 gtx. I think they may make a 5800x3d version down the line that could be overclock-able, but that's only an assumption that I'm making. Only reason I believe that they may release an overclock-able 5800x3d is because they said they released it early to showcase the new stacking method as a proof of concept that it increase performance. From that I think maybe its worth waiting, not only for a better price to buy the 5800x3d, but to see if they will release a more updated version of the 5800x3d when they release the 5600x3d. Again, this is just speculation as I think they just released an incomplete version, but it could also be the only and final version of it. For the time being, if you haven't bought the 5800x3d just yet, you should consider doing what I and another user have done to increase performance for high cpu count ryzen chip. I currently own a 5900x and a lot of my games I play use low thread counts, like Rust for example, it only uses no more than 4 threads. After finding out I can’t use PBO because of an issue specifically attributed to my mobo, I experimented with Ryzen Master. After some tuning, I disabled SMT through legacy mode and manually tunes voltage and mhz. Got a stable 4700mhz at 1.1875v on 6 cores with legacy mode on and SMT turned off (info for others with 5900x and curious). I reached out to another user who plays a ton of Rust on their 5950x. After chatting about tuning my chip to Rust, they got to tuning their own chip as well. They told me that they got a nice boost in performance through disabling SMT and ran their 5950x at 4450mhz at 1.225v. They said they got about a 10% increase in performance and lower temps. Something worth trying if you want more performance out of your system, especially seeing that you have a 5950x and only strictly game. Personally I myself might may get the 5800x3d as I never intended to get a 5900x as I mainly game and sometimes do video edits, but plan to wait for it to go on sale as its seems to be going for $650 atm. Anyways, hopefully this was somewhat helpful as someone with a similar specs and situation as yourself.

Should the 5800x3D show as running at 3.6 GHZ with default settings, or 4.5? Mine never shows it going above 3.6 but it's supposed to boost to 4.5 automatically or something? I saw in your BIOS it was reading at 3.4. Mine showed that and then with some tweaks like DOCP and OC Tuner said 3.6 but updating BIOS, resetting CMOS, nothing ever shows 4.5. Cinebench shows 3.6. Task Manager shows 3.6 even during gaming. I've been troubleshooting for DAYS and I don't know if I'm just wasting my time. UserBencMark says the CPU is running poorly.
can you actually overclock this chip on MSI boards? Im running a b450 gaming pro carbon and I am certain I cannot adjust CPU frequency and voltage in BIOS.
In the case of MSI, I think that an external PLL is not installed unless it is a class of "Unify" or higher. On a B550 Tomahawk he is running BCLK OC (105.56MHz) but PCIE clock ramps up at same time as there is no external PLL. Devices that work stably at high PCIE clocks are limited and difficult to stability. For example, M.2 SSD Gen4 can hardly raise the PCIE clock. It should be set to Gen3 or connected to the chipset side.
I searched for BCLK OC for X570 Gaming Plus but couldn't find it. B550 Tomahawk also doesn't have an external PLL, so I don't think it's included in Gaming Plus either. Search word "Ryzen BCLK Over Clock (your CPU or M/B name)" or "Ryzen BCLK OverClock Forum"
Not on the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. Fixed OC is possible on Ryzen in two ways: switch to OC mode and disable Precision Boost. OC Mode is unfortunately not available on X3D parts. Disabling Precision Boost will give you a fixed ratio (the CPU base ratio) and in theory you can use reference clock overclocking to achieve higher frequency. Unfortunately, the Ryzen 5000 series are pretty limited with reference clock overclocking (up to 103mhz stable) so the ultimate frequency will be lower than what you get with Precision Boost enabled.
hello, do you have any advice for playing in 1440p (3440x1440) with a GPU with 4gb vram (details at a minimum)? it's a Mi8/Radeon R9 nano instict. Not much you can do honestly... other than what you already mentioned (low details). You may edit the config files to get even lower graphics details... But that would look so trash you might as well just drop the resolution to 2560x1080
I've got an R9 Nano in my secondary computer- it's a good card for 1080p but even with lower settings in most games it just doesn't like 1440p. I'd recommend a new card or sticking with 1080p. It's nice to see another Nano owner! They're rare cards these Days!
My bios shows ai tweaker rather than xtreme tweaker. Is this a simple name change with newer BIOS? I've already updated my motherboard to the most recent one
Are you using also the Crosshair VIII Extreme motherboard? ASUS has different terms for their overclocking submenu. Typically the high-end boards have Extreme Tweaker while the others have Ai Tweaker. Most of the functions are the same, it's just that Extreme Tweaker usually has more advanced tuning options.
@@SkatterBencher I see. Their documentation isn't amazing, so I've been watching videos of people tinkering either their bios to get an idea of what everything is and where it is. Overall the layout of the ai tweaker looks about the same. A few missing options, but nothing that relevant to me. I'm running a b550m wifi with the 5800x3d and a 3080 12gb inside a pelican case. I'm thermally constrained as it is so I gained more by undervolting than I did any other way.
I’ll try to run more benchmarks but I get a score of 15484 in cinebench r23 with mine. All I did was run a reference clk of 102 and I actually did a negative voltage offset of 0.075. My single core is around 1489 though highest I’ve seen from mine was under 15100 and I have only stuck to negative offsets.
This plays like a tutorial, but uses specific frequencies for memory that *you* have rather than general frequency information that people *may* have. The information here really only applies to people with your exact hardware.
@@SkatterBencher no it uses a bios from 2020 or 2021 . i read that the 5800x3d had an specific bios patch AGESA version 1.2.0.6b. i might have to try that but i am a noob with that kind of stuff
All motherboards should be able to do reference clock overclocking and voltage offset to some degree, though specific BIOS implementations may limit the overclocking range. For example: there's an auto-rule to disable Precision Boost beyond a certain reference clock. To set up the overclock as a daily driver will be more difficult because a voltage offset increases the voltage across the entire V/F Curve, including at the lower voltages which are typically used for all-core workloads. For this issue, Voltage Suspension on the C8E is the only way to manage it properly as far as I know.

Curious, why are the steps so vastly different from overclocking a 5800x? Would thos steps work decent too? I guess I could try it myself but for conversation sake I'm also asking. Don't want to ruin my new x3d.
Try a reference clk of 101.8 and a negative voltage offset of -0.0625. Also downloand pbo tuner and get it to autorun everytime to -30. You should get get results. Make sure your fclk is half of your ramspeed 1800 & 3600 is generally stable 1900 & 3800 requires luck.

Yo do you have experience with mag b550 tomahawk + 5800x3d?
Wish you had a guide like this for MSI X570 Gaming plus :(
it's an rog only thing, even us low end asus boys can't do it :(
I searched for BCLK OC for X570 Gaming Plus but couldn't find it.
B550 Tomahawk also doesn't have an external PLL, so I don't think it's included in Gaming Plus either.
Search word "Ryzen BCLK Over Clock (your CPU or M/B name)" or "Ryzen BCLK OverClock Forum"
Is it possible to somehow get a fixed all core OC with manual vcore?

I know very well that it could not be, but I do it anyway, I ask in case anyone knows about some software settings, BIOS or on the AMD panel or some setting / technology developed within the game settings (in addition to low details) to make the card go better in 1440, make the vram work better or try not to saturate.
Your gpu simply can't handle such resolution it runs out of bandwidth and vram. I recommend a gpu upgrade at least a 3060 ti or better

Are there any other motherboards that can do this? For example the b550 unify-x?
All motherboards should be able to do reference clock overclocking and voltage offset to some degree, though specific BIOS implementations may limit the overclocking range. For example: there's an auto-rule to disable Precision Boost beyond a certain reference clock.
To set up the overclock as a daily driver will be more difficult because a voltage offset increases the voltage across the entire V/F Curve, including at the lower voltages which are typically used for all-core workloads. For this issue, Voltage Suspension on the C8E is the only way to manage it properly as far as I know.
