I think starting in silent pictures helped in that regard. She had to figure out a way to tell a story with her eyes and facial expressions alone. Once the method actors took over that style of acting went out of fashion.

That is her ONLY claim to fame. She hated her mother but didn't hate the Crawford name and marquee value. Dozens of people have gone on record saying that Toxic Tina was INSANELY jealous of her mother's success and legacy and thought she should be afforded the same honors; never mind she wasn't as talented as her mother and couldn't even take direction! At some point you stop blaming mommy and daddy for your mishaps and in life and as an adult BE an adult. And if THAT wasn't enough, in one of these "editions" she went after her two sisters claiming they weren't biologically related and other stupid desperate lies. That DID result in a defamation lawsuit filed by both sisters. Toxic Tina rushed to settle out of court. She trashed her mother about her marriages and affairs, but Toxic Tina was married four times but never had kids (or at least it wasn't reported she ever had kids)... And she's STILL churning out derivatives of "Mommie Dearest" including a stage play. So she's made a 40 year career slagging her mother.

He just wouldn’t stop talking, instead of interviewing her he would interject his own opinion all the time, which was visibly annoying to her; but you can also see how used she was to it, by how she just stared at him going on and on doing his dumb thing; indeed those were the “men” of the day. It does make me think of what all the other women of this planet had to put up with if the big Hollywood stars were having to take the nonsense to this degree, and from interviewers at that. He was also standing too close to her, even awkwardly touched her shoulder at some point tf was that?! You can see her quick reaction to that tho, in rising the tone of her voice ever so slightly and answering the question with command and authority _ that was her way of saying hands off while keeping her composure and class; and whenever he did allow her to get a word in for like three seconds she would always deconstruct his bs narrative in that precise amount of time too haha Queen! 😂

Love the eye contact she makes with him tho, it tells him that she is not afraid, and that SHE is in control. You are no longer prey if you stand the potential predator in the eye. She knows what she’s doing. I had to learn what she’s doing, and so did she. The Japanese have an expression called reading the air, most westerners are so oblivious to it it’s sad. Learn to read the air folks, she is setting her boundaries and asserting her control in staring him in the eye like that, razor blade sharp, chin constantly held high. Queen!

Her eye contact was to keep HIM on an even playground. Don't try to patronize and treat her like a "little woman," she must have thought. He tried to do that by his, quick wit, his, ass kissing, and his dry humor, and she wouldn't fall for it. Especially when he tried to touch her. He was trying to gain control of the interview. She didn't flinch she was most professional, and you can see he was nervous. She intimidated him by sitting real close to him and even leaned forward and straight into his eyes. That is years of training on how to deal with all BS of Hollywood men, and executives. "DON'T FUDGE WITH ME FELLOWS! I KNOW HOW TO WIN THE HARD WAY."

      P. Folliard well then they didnt know much about Joan's childhood and where she came from. I know its not okay how she treated her older children but who are we to judge her so damn much. She was a complex person, but deep within i think she was very lovely, tho tough, strict and proffesional.

She was probably thinking of "Ice Follies of 1939" when she said, "I've made a few stinkers." I've always been a Joan Crawford fan. A striking woman, a formidable presence, and she most definitely is playing "Joan Crawford" here, the way she holds her head at just the right angle for the camera. I bet she spent some time getting the lighting just right.

It's a shame how she's depicted. From the interviews I've seen her in, I got a sense of the woman and mother described by her twins, than the monster described by Christina.
Also, she has a great sense of humour and a gracious, down-to-earth vibe; nothing like any of the depictions I've seen of her.
Good people, talented and successful people, attract smear and jealousy, I guess.
