I think part of the reason Joan is still talked about today is her ability to transform and change with the times. I’m sure many women who were around her age would have felt that she was a kindred spirit. She was a flapper, a Depression-era worker and a housewife with big aspirations. And I don’t think she was one to rest on her laurels. Say what you want about her, she put in the work, showed up prepared. And the fact that she was brilliantly talented and uniquely beautiful didn’t hurt either.

"Mildred Pierce" is one of my all time favorite classics. Joan Crawford, in my opinion, never received the recognition she truly deserved. Thank you for this video!
I think a more recent example of what happened to Joan Crawford was Sandra Bullock's win for The Blind Side. I see parallels between their careers. Like Crawford, Bullock in 2010 had been an audience favorite for 20 years whose roles/performances really appealed to contemporary women. When she was nominated it seemed weird that that was her first nomination and brought to attention how un appreciated she had been.

This episode is incredibly well-written. You embodied being "kind" to a woman who defined American Womanhood in its formative years and across some of the most challenging circumstances and obstacles society in general was dealt (depression, Second World War, and the technical limits of early cinema, etc.) This is probably the first account of the career of Joan Crawford I find that does not sensationalize --positively or negatively-- and it shows lucid view of context in explaining her career stages, ultimately having understanding of them and delivering understanding to the younger generations, who, case to point, continue to be quite interested indeed in Joan Crawford, myself included. Actually more interested in her life and work than in most stars of her generation or after. Thank you again and again.... this is good...

LMAO! This comment is just perfect. And more brilliant in its satire than on first read. The notion of Crawford equating an Oscar win to some glorious aspect of human existence sounds silly in circumspect.
This is an incredible video! I've seen 32 Joan Crawford movies this year and I must say this is very informative and shows how underappreciated and undervalued she was and is!
This piece on Crawford is very well narrated. We enjoyed listening to the narrator's voice so professional and crisp! The delivery was on point and informative. Well done! 👍🏻
Another brilliant video. She's very very underrated and should be more praised than she is, she definitely deserved this award (and also should have won for her other two nominations).
Wyatt Holsapple I just looked it up and Hattie was the first African American to win an Oscar and it was for Best Supporting Actress. It wasn’t until 2001 that Halle was the first African American actress to win an Oscar in the Best Actress category.

God I'm so obsessed with your channel. For some reason I can't stop watching it thank you for all you content you really do something that it's worth appreciating and important to look at !!!☺️☺️
Absolutely awesome. Well-deserved tribute to this beautiful, talented workhorse. Thank you!
It's so valuable when documentaries can separate a flawed individual from their art.
This is now the 6th video of yours i've watched, and i can't get enough. I'm pretty much binge-watching all your videos. You have a great voice and cadence for narration and don't have the self-congratulating need to put yourself on camera, instead focusing on showing us the relevant clips. Your topics are well-researched, and shows you have a clear love for the material, adding nuance, depth and thoughts on contemporary and current interpretation of the history. Great job!
As soon as these episodes appear in my feed I click straight away!
Ikr.👈😃
I love your work so much. Thank you for doing it!
Het performance in Mildred Pierce was Great. She was great in Rain Flamingo Road and Baby Jane. Her reputation muddied her image and ability
You've done another insightful video. Thank you! This channel is amazing.
I'll be watching her films entire weekend. Thanks for this video. Love it!
I knew this video was going to happen! THANK U!
I'm so glad you did both a Joan and a Bette video without focusing on their conflict. They were both more than that. Bravo.
I've never clicked a new video notification so fast!! I love your channel and your videos!!
This is a thoughtful, terrific video on the context of this remarkable woman's career. It's certainly given me a new perspective on this amazing actress. Beautiful job, thank you.
My great aunt use to babysit me as a child, we watched all these old films whenever we were together. Joan Crawford was one of her favorite actresses, and we watched so many of her films. Next to Mildred Pierce, Sadie McKee is my favorite of Joan’s films.
I really wish my great aunt and I could have met Joan to tell her how much her films mean to us...and how her films bonded my great aunt and I.
I love this channel - thank you for these videos! I have been waiting for one on Joan for ages, loved it!!
your work is a masterpiece , please never stop.
I’ve been waiting patiently for this video and it’s finally here!! Awesome, thank you very much.
THANK YOU! Your videos are fabulous.
Thanks for shedding light on how important and amazing Joan Crawford is. This is my dream channel and I’m so glad I found it. Thanks for your hard work
Suggestion: please do a video on 1954 winner, the exquisite Audrey Hepburn ❤️
If I ever get a job, then it'll feel like winning an Oscar.
Me too, brother. Me too.
LMAO! This comment is just perfect. And more brilliant in its satire than on first read. The notion of Crawford equating an Oscar win to some glorious aspect of human existence sounds silly in circumspect.
This is an incredible video! I've seen 32 Joan Crawford movies this year and I must say this is very informative and shows how underappreciated and undervalued she was and is!
your videos are excellent. thank you for the great work!
Loved this take on Joan's work. Great videos!
Finally a Joan's review who's so fair, it's hard find some kind words about her, and I think she deserved so much more
Amazing. Great video. You did her a great service by reminding us of how hard she worked vs just Christina’s depiction of her. Keep it up. Thank you!
I love Joan! And I love these videos! Keep ‘em coming!
For the love of God, don't ever stop making these; you are simply the best!
I would love a video on different actresses and their relationship with the studio system.
Channels like this one show what RUclips, at its best, can offer.
Your content is amazing. I eagerly wait for your videos.
This piece on Crawford is very well narrated. We enjoyed listening to the narrator's voice so professional and crisp! The delivery was on point and informative. Well done! 👍🏻
New subscriber here. I absolutely LOVE your channel and its content! I would love to see a video on Barbara Stanwick's career. Thank you.😊
Thank you again for a wonderfully written documentary! I am a fan of yours now.
Love Joan. She was the longest-surviving film actress &, for a while, was the highest-paid woman in America !
Greetings from Puerto Rico. I really enjoy your channel. Can't wait for more content.
Would love to see one about Francis McDormand's two wins. Love your videos to bits!
*three wins
Another brilliant video. She's very very underrated and should be more praised than she is, she definitely deserved this award (and also should have won for her other two nominations).
Your videos are absolutely perfect, my new favourite content creator! Look forward to seeing more 🙏🏻
I have such respect for the rich content and quality of these videos. It's like a gift to be able to watch them. Thank-you.
The parts shot by the railroad are jaw-droppingly beautiful. She literally took my breath away.
What a great video. Glad a clip of Mommie Dearest brought me here.
Halle Berry’s win! Both as the first black female Oscar winner and the Razzie. Please and thank you! Keep up the great work, love this channel!!
That year, I was rooting for Sissy Spacek. I didn't see Monster's Ball until it came on t.v.
mattbernabe GASP! See I didn’t even know who the nominees were. I looooove Sissy!! The more reason I NEED that episode.
@@AlleyCat-bz8hr I do, too. She's one of the greats!
2001 nominees
Sissy Speack - In the Bedroom
Halle Berry - Monster's Ball
Nicole Kidman - Moulin Rouge
Judi Dench - Iris
Renee Zellweger - Bridget Jones's Diary
Yes!! I would love to see one on Halle Berry too
Wyatt Holsapple I just looked it up and Hattie was the first African American to win an Oscar and it was for Best Supporting Actress. It wasn’t until 2001 that Halle was the first African American actress to win an Oscar in the Best Actress category.
The quality of your commentary is commendable!
Whenever anyone asks about the difference between dislike and disrespect, I immediately think of that clip of Bette talking about Joan's work ethic and professionalism even if they had bitter personality differences and clashes
Admittedly, I didn't recognize most of the titles of her movies. However, your narration was, again, compelling and amazing, so another kudos to you for this!
