Melvin, let me give you some advise on citrus trees. You have to let the soil dry a good amount before you water again, when you see the surface is dried wait 1 to 2 days after that depending on the temperature. Another tip seedlings in general don’t like to be fertilized until about they get an established root system so for a citrus seedling that would be at about a month and a half or 2 months. I used to have about 8 citrus trees between 10 and 20 feet but one tree died mysteriously and 2 more died from a drought, but the rest of them are doing well and produces regularly. Hope this helps
@@gmont28 If you grow citrus trees from store-bought seeds there's a little chance on fruit. If there even is fruit they'd only grow after usually about 4 years and after you might get fruits but those have a high chance of not tasting too well.
@@lemon420 That depends. If nucellar embryos develop fruits then they will have a good taste. If they are zygotic embryos then the fruit will probably not taste very well. Then there is the problem that all seed grown citrus have: a long juvenile period, that will take even longer in a container. That's probably what you meant with "there's a little chance on fruit".
I started growing lemon trees from seeds as a kid, just for fun. I loved the way the seedlings looked and I loved the way the plants grew after. When they got big enough that I had to cut some of their branches, I rooted the cuttings and had even more plants. I even bought a plant that was supposed to start flowering much sooner as it was a rooted cutting from an already flowering plant, and it really did, probably the same year. I loved everything about the flowers, not only the looks but the smell, that was just incredible! Even one more plant started flowering, it was probably one from a cutting (though I didn't know if the cutting was made from my own or from the bought plant). But even after several flowerings, neither of them produced any fruit, maybe the plants were just too small to fruit I though. The plants from seeds never flowered though, so I started reducing their numbers and kept the biggest, nicest one, maybe for later grafting. However, as time went by, all my plants, one after another, died. I am not exactly sure why, but I had them for so many years without any fruit sticking that I wasn't even all that sad. I just bought another plant (rooted cutting probably, bought in a supermarket) and guess what, I even had a ripe fruit from it! The plant is just a 15 cm stick, yet it had a nice, regular sized lemon on it. I've never had a fruit with so many seeds in it though, it was absolutely loaded with them!

they need sunlight, a TON of sunlight. My seedlings are growing in full direct sunlight and I live in a area of california where its usually in the 90s. These plants just love the heat and the sun. they grow much faster if you keep them in direct sunlight

Cool series. Lemon trees look really good. I just planted some peppers and tomatoes this week, but I think I'll try a lemon tree as well. I'm in NL, so It'll have to stay indoors for 10 months per year.
I started lemon 'trees' from seed this winter. I germinated mine prior to planting, all the seedlings have cheered up no end as the day length and daylight has improved over the past month. Mine will have to stay in most of the year as I live in a more challenging part of the UK. With citrus, I find watering the hardest part, sometimes the delayed reaction from the plant adds to the confusion! I find it is getting harder to find citrus fruit that contain seeds, my lemons are 'Primofiore' - a variety sold here that did contain seeds. We don't see any limes with seeds, I had to buy a lime tree! Good luck with this latest fruit growing project! Thanks for sharing!
I actually tried buying 2 limes before I settled on a reboot of the lemon series. Both limes had no seeds! Warmth seems to be a big factor for growth with these.
I have six by accident... now I have 11 trees total. I have 5 oak trees to plant. Never seen myself as a tree person lol. Gonna start some cherries and others as well. Have 2 pineapples going as well.
Looking forward to this series -- I really enjoyed your other series! I've got a couple of Pomelo seedlings growing from the fruit my mom gave me, which she grew. Thought it would be fun to see what happens. 😃
I've been watching this interesting video with great interest. What I couldn't fathom was all the near overflowing watering and washing out the soil, did it not flood the balcony and affect the plant growth. And since the plant were planted in a controlled medium, did the plants lack other natural nutrition from growing naturally in the open ground. I am writing from the UK.
Any water in the pot would drain out within minutes through drainage holes I drilled in the 4 corners on the bottom. The balcony slopes slightly and drains towards a hole in the center of the edge, so water flows out and onto the ground below. The nutrition was probably lacking at times, but plants can grow in pure sand in the wild with minimal nutrients as well.
Thank you for your generous reply. Greatly appreciated. You must have good diary to follow up on your plants so dedicated. Good luck. Lucky you. The UK is most of time wet and overcast.

Idk how my tree is growing. I'm in nc mid july. Looked under there and there is a plant about 3 inches tall. Lol! It's all sturdy looking with like 5 leaves. Pretty cool. Hi! I've also some lemon seedlings, I started them around the same time as yours, now mine are about 12 14 cm high, and they are starting to have large leaves. The only problem is that some of early leaves started to get ill, they have little dots (1-2 millimeters in diameter) of a brown color. It seems that then those dots expand and produce necrosys. 7-8 hours is normally essential for established lemon trees. How harsh is the sunlight? Could be burning. Other factors could be inadequate water or wrong type of soil? If they’re this young, unfortunately they have a low chance of coming back in my opinion.
