Mark Mencinger Well yes but actually no. Slovenia does have higher nominal GDP per capita but Czechia has higher GDP (PPP) per capita, which is more relevant. As for HDI, you’re right, however the difference is only two places. On the other hand poverty rates in Czechia are lower, so is unemployment, public debt, suicide and homocide rates etc. Czechia also spends higher percentage of its budget on health and education, has better Global Peace Rating and so on. Prague is also the 14th richest of all the OECD regions (richer than Paris, Stockholm...) while Ljubljana significantly lags behind. Wouldn’t say that Slovenia is the more developed one after all...
As an Italian, I am very sorry for the bad things, which the Italian troops did during the Second World War, to the Slovenes, were made monstrous, peace between our peoples and our nations.

Do many Slovenians know Janja Garnbret? I would of thought climbing would be be a big thing in Slovenia as they have produced world class athletes in this sport.
Right now, yes. We know her and cheer for her. But climbing as a sport isn't that huge, most popular sports here are ski jumping, skiing, and team ball sports. but of course Janja is paving the way for climbing, same as Pogačar and Roglič are in cycling!
