Nailed this review! Been riding my oiz all season and getting ready to tackle PC P2P on it. By far the fastest bike I’ve ridden consistently (out of the oiz, ripley, blur, and epic evo). I’ve noticed the suspension holds up to bigger hits a lot better than the other bikes I’ve ridden as well. Even on trails like hardlick and Jacob’s ladder I’ve never felt under biked. Now would I take it to a bike park, probably not, but this will tackle most trails and any xc course you can find with no issues.
Just make sure to run enough dropper, I guess. Some XCM courses around here have... eh... enduro sections, and a 125mm dropper on an L frame with the total stack being 310mm at full extension... isn't fun on steep, rocky, slow tech :D Bike itself is plenty capable. Normal cockpit (shorter non-negative stem & a normal handlebar) is next up if the dropper isn't enough for such things.
Great review as always! Everything my lbs couldn't answer. They sell but not much information. I will be showing this video to them. Keep up the entertainment content!
Loved the review and I got my Oiz last june and I'cant be more happy with. Im normally an Enduro rider that wanted to have also a bike for long XC routes (with an enduro this turns into a nightmare) and I'm surprised how efficient I climb but I was very, very surprised of how well the bike tackles rough dowhill terrain. Of course I dont do (or I dont want to try) the gnarly stuff I ride with the enduro but the Oiz feels very "trailish" and sufficient to take on complicated terrain. For this purpose i changed the front tyre and now I ride de Maxxis Forekaster V2 and feels sooo good!! The only thing that I miss, like you said, is the braking power but I think it's a natural thing and I cant expetc it to brake as powerful as an enduro bike with four piston calipers. That reminds me that I could improve that spec by just replacing the two piston SLX for a four piston XT for example.....To sum up: the bike is FANTASTIC!
Have the oiz 2017 with the 100mm suspension, it did have a lockout at the rear . But through my sweat and heavy use it spoiled. Had to remove it from the bike. Put it in the ni the middle settings. To me the bike ride better without the lockout. The suspension does adapt to the terrian. The oiz is a great suspension . The 2024 suspension probably more refined. The oiz platform is great . Win a lot of races on it. Wish I have the 120mm oiz . But it's a perfect bike
Great review! Looking forward to the summary. I used to XC race, and there is certainly something addicting about riding a fast, fire breathing bike that just launches forward when you pedal. My little is in NICA and will most likely be on a Large in 1-2 years. Maybe I can get XC race bike for him and inherit it once he is done. LOL.
These XC bike reviews are great, thanks! My wife has a previous generation (2022) Oiz TR version with 120/120 suspension. She says it feels like a rocket ship and also agrees that it doesn’t really need its Squidlock. In comparison, she previously rode a Scott and said that bike definitely needed/ benefited from its TwinLoc to increase its efficiency.
Hi! Found your excellent review! Lucky to see the first time, that someone configured the Oiz with a "normal" stem . So hopefully I'll get an answer here. How tall are you / the rider in this video? What's the frame size? Which stem length have you choosen? I would appreciate any comments! Thx in advance! Ride safe - P.D.
@@bikersedge - Thank you for quick response! *calculate* thats 187cm - great same height I'm still not sure, if I should change the longer minus stem for a normal one right at the order. Want to replace my Trek Procaliber 9.6 for a fully experience on xc
Hello 👋 I’m 187cm and I use a 50mm stem and my saddle is pushed backward at the maximum! I Would go with the XL and 35mm Stem if I could change it in a finger snap 🫰 I ride mostly XC and light trails.
Very nice review ! Pls advice ..whats the small bumps sensitivity of this bike ?.... I mean like dirt road or even broken aspfalt road ? I am not a racer - want to buy this bike for mixed terrain long (4-8 hours) sporty pace rides. Part on asphalt , part on gravel roads part on dirt rocky , rooty forrest roads. Currently have Trekprocaliber 9.9 HT and would like to have something with similar super efficiency but more comfortable on rougher part of the trip. I really like this bike look ,components etc. lock, just not sure about that suspension part .. as I have no experince in this field. As good part pf the road is allways on asphalt - gravel roads I usually put 40 psi into 2.2 bontrager XR1 tires../ So I need susension to do the job.
Great review. From the reach number you put up on screen it looks like you were riding a size XL? It sounded like you liked the fit of the bike so If you don’t mind me asking, how tall are you. I’m 6’1” and trying to decide between L or XL. Thanks
What do you think of the VITUS RAPIDE FS CRS MOUNTAIN BIKE (SHIMANO) as a xc race bike. It has a 509 mm reach for a size larder. I am 6 ft and looking for a new value carbon xc bike. The other bike I am looking at is the lux cf 6
i had the hardtail vitus rapide and it was amazing for xc racing. they are amazing bikes for the price. the quality isn’t quite the same as bigger name brands but i would assume that the rapide fs is a good bike as well.
Would be interesting to hear how the bike performs with 5% more sag (35% range). Would it descend/brake better, or would that compromise the climbing ability too much?
I have been riding a 2023 Oiz M30 for some time now and I totally disagree with what you say about not needing a lockout. I have ridden a lot of bikes and this bike is one of the best bikes I have ridden, because of the Squidlock three position lockout. When you lockout the bike on a climb, it instantly changes the complete character of the bike and makes you fly uphill way easier than when the suspension is loose. It is definitely a great feature.
@@bikersedge I understand. However, I have not noticed any loss of traction whatsoever while locked. The thing I notice is that it instantly makes the bike lighter to paddle uphill without losing traction, even on roots. I use the Maxxis Rekon Race btw.
@jeroenberger9064 on any loose or steep climbs you’ll certainly lose traction with the shock locked out. The same thing that makes it more efficient under pedaling forces when locked out will reduce the bikes ability to absorb bumps and keep the back wheel from bouncing.
I actually ride on a road and a gravel track to get to a trail so the lockout is important to me. Maybe not so important for those that drive to a trail.@@bikersedge
What do you think about this bike for someone who likes to climb, wants to do more of it, but also likes fast descents (coming from a 2020 occam, would love to speed up my climbing a bit...) I Don't really do park or jumping, but also not sure id race xc.
This would certainly be faster on the climbs than an Occam. On fast and smooth descents you won’t see too much of a penalty with this. Keep in mind you will lose stability both at high and low speeds. This will be less forgiving for sure.
@@bikersedge already order a blur xc 😅….to join at the Hightower for big terrains !!..nice to see the Orbea prowess for international market ! Wether as European I’m stick with Santa Cruz for advanced technology and warranty.
I rarely talk about components. I focus on geometry and suspension design. I personally don’t think components make a big difference at the end of the day.
You have to use your body to brake better, I changed my brakes pad immediately after a couple of rides then it was more better at braking . Didn't have much confidence at descent with the stock pads . See me now 😌.

This isn’t the best in category for small bump. It’s very efficient. Usually that means less comfort on small bumps.
