    Weird for a denomination founded on returning to a more biblical and traditional Presbyterianism to reject the Biblical Pauline teaching on women preaching and perpetual Presbyterian practice of male-only pastors from John Knox to very recent.

    If I remember correctly, COG TN are also egalitarian in that they allow women to preach as pastors, but would not allow them to hold higher office. Other than the issue of women preachers, the COG TN is fairly conservative on most matters, including sexuality and marriage. Please correct me if I'm wrong, because I was raised in a COG TN church in Indonesia (known as Indonesian Bethel Church).

    "We affirm women in ministry because of the Bible, not cultural trends."
    I mean, some would consider the Enlightenment to be a cultural trend but okay.

    • @pierrelabounty9917
      @pierrelabounty9917 Год назад +4

      The enlightenment was far from being a cultural trend. Considering the new testament and Paul's salutations; women are able to minister greatly in the living Body of Yeshua; where men are not in the task enough around the world. There is no female or male in Christ at that point. So it ceases to be a sexual issue. I know nothing much about the denominational variants on this. Others may. God did not make women as a second thought. They are among others thongs the best nurturers in many ways of children and young men; when they are true to their providential task. And self evident. Men are among other things to help provide fir children and women . And all are to serve best by putting Christ first in all things. The churches assimilation of cultural values is another problem. We have to deal with that individually in our lives as well. The first two commandments are fulfilled by faith in Christ alone. No idols in place of or by the side of. Praise God in all things. All this seems again self evident from the scrotures in total and our spiritual expereince and necessities. Let Christ be in control.

    I find it regrettable that the denomination is willing to alienate complementarians, and I dont think their argument even follows. Its possible for a complementarian to deny the appropriateness of female ministers without denying that they legitimately hold the office. Its really quite bizarre that they put their foot down firmly here.

      The most powerful/rich ones are Orthodox, Catholic, Protestant, Baptist, Pentecostal & the rest of the church’s are mostly non-denominational or independent.

      As for the number of Christian denominations, it's often claimed that there are tens of thousands. Joshua once did a video on this. Unfortunately, I forget its title. Anyhow, he showed that the number of denominations claimed to exist is highly exaggerated. One reason is that the same denomination gets counted more than once depending on how many countries it exists in, and other such strange vagaries which greatly expand the numbers claimed.

    Why not just switch the church to the Orthodox Presbyterian Church if they want to go more conservative? We have way too many denominations the way it is and people keep starting more new ones.

    • @slamdancer1720

      Because they are NOT orthodox, nor are they particularly conservative, merely more so than PCUSA. The OPC would require many changes.

    • @hjk7833
      @hjk7833 Год назад

      The OPC is significantly different from ECO, such that ECO churches would not want to join OPC and OPC would not want to have them. The OPC hews much, much more closely to the Westminster Confession of Faith, and it is certainly not egalitarian.
      The more obvious fit to me would be the EPC. I have a pastor friend who led his church to leave the PC(USA) for the EPC right at the time when ECO was formed. I asked him why he thought ECO came into existence, when the churches who formed ECO could have just left for the EPC.
      He said that one factor (among many) had to do with the fact that some PCUSA Presbyteries would not let a church leave the denomination to go to a denomonation that was not explicitly egalitarian. As the video mentions, the EPC allows for the ordination of women, but does not have a unified stance on the issue, allowing churchse (and presbyteries, iirc) to disagree and refuse to hire female pastors. In taking an explicit and unwaivering egalitarian stance, ECO provided a place where some PCUSA churches could land without having the presbytery block them or sieze their property.
