Today 04/10/2022. Cruising RUclips I found this wonderful presentation of the Gospel given in 2017 by this exciting pastor in Texas (Wes Johnson). His narrative of the birth of the CP Church is the history of my chosen denomination. I've been a CP for 80 years.

as a baptist, i pray for the cumberlands since i discovered their history. the cumberland presbyterians are the closest to baptist soteriology of any other group. you are also for the "regular" folk, much like the baptists were (and mostly still are). ur also like us in that theres no unnecessary education required of its ministers...helpful yes. but required no. as the PCUSA and other presbyterian churches are dying, i hope you guys are able to attract those that are leaving those churches, but most importantly, reach anyone who is lost. i would like to know tho, why 2/3 of ur church merged back into the main presb church. what made those who merged decide to accept the predestination of the larger church?

Thanks for your prayers! We need them. Most of our congregation has a southern baptist background, but fell in love with this church and stuck around. I am ordained Southern Baptist and working for CP ordination now. We are very similar in theology. We are even allowed to do immersion baptisms!
PCUSA amended their confession of faith in 1903, making predestination language somewhat ambiguous. CPs felt they had made major concessions in their doctrine and urged union. PCUSA didn't feel they had changed much. Since both sides felt they had the same basic beliefs, union made sense as we could join resources together.
Most CP churches, however, actually voted to remain distinct. The vote by churches was 1,477 against to 1,340 for. The vote by presbyteries is what mattered, however, and that vote was 60 for and 51 against. We were very divided on the issue and lost most of our land and resources to PCUSA. The fact that about 1/3 decided to "continue" the CP Church speaks volumes of how determined our resolve was to remain evangelical and distinct as a church.

thats great! the cumberlands need to get on fire and do for the prebyterian world what the new anglican church in north america is doing for the episcopalian world. the nazarenes were an off shot of methodism and at one time mostly sprinkled for baptism. now its almost unheard of, as most of them practice immersion. maybe the cumberlands will follow lol. so tell me what made the cumberlands that merged back into the larger presb church did with the doctrine on TULIP.....how did they so easliy accept this doctrine coming from a church that explicitly rejected it??? does each cumberland congregation own its own property or is it owned the the denomination? just curious. wish there was a cumberland church near me. ill always be baptist, but i love helping churches who buck the system and and thirst for God and win souls! im a rebel lol

Ummm a heretic that has abandoned the biblical doctrines of grace but still refers to himself as a Presbyterian?
