I had exactly the same problem for two days last week. I watched your video wherein you mention that one of the 2 blue fuses was loose behind the dash in the cluster in the cables fixed to the dash . I agreed with your comment that that might be the fault, put my head by the accelerator, clutch & brake pedal , shone a torch up behind the steering column, found the fuses easily, pushed thenm in to the fuse holders firmly & the problem was solved. 10 seconds work maximum , no need to unscrew anything or spray any thing. Glad you did though mate to show us all where the fuses are and what they look like. Very grateful to you but just push the fuses in again . Many , many thanks

Top man, just picked the transit up from my mechanics, on a Sunday, after he performed a pre MOT checkup for the MOT tomorrow. Dash didn’t work at all....until now. Thanks bud.

Great video, thanks a lot man. Been suffering with the same problem on a 2005 Tourneo (basically Mk6 Transit with windows, so same clocks etc.) and really sick of whacking the dash every 2 mins to get the clocks working. As Eric DiGiorgi mentions below, the bottom screws in the dash cover are a right b*stard to get to, you definitely need a right angle driver of some kind. One of mine was so rusted in I had to cut it out with a multi tool.
Be careful with that locking clip which you can see at 2:56, you pull it like a handle and it pivots - if you force it, it'll break and then the connector is more likely to work loose over time. So far so good for my clocks fixed straight away - and hopefully it'll fix the intermittent problem every winter where the odometer fades/disappears every so often.
There's another video out there mentioning resoldering the connector joints on the cluster PCB - while I suppose its a *possible* fault cause, I think a dirty connector as shown here is way more likely to fix it - and with far less faffing/potential for disaster.

For those who do not have an adjustable steering colum. Those bottom screws in the dash cover are a bear to reach (being kind) It may require the 90 degree screwdriver. That is using a 6.5mm (or1/4 inch) socket and a phillips head screwdriver bit together on a small 1/4 inch ratchet drive. And still rust and other things may make extraction a bit of a struggle but its possible

Small socket set with phillips head does the trick. The first time it took me hours to do. Also you only need to pop the top of the steering column cover. Dont bother with the underside.

Very informative video you've done, I've been banging my dashboard for about 3 months now. I've bought some electrical cleaner and all i need to do now is remove the clocks and give it a try and hopefully it does the trick.
    Thanks bud.

    Edit: It didn't work... I think I got a broken cable 😑

Mate this worked perfect, had previously watched another video and was about to resolder all the points.. saved me loads of fannying about, literally sprayed the contacts, I used bit of WD-40 and worked just as well cheers

It's worth noting that while this fault is occurring the mileage counter doesn't work - so the van has likely done many, many more miles than it would appear.

Thanks for the video mate, I just bought a mk 6 with the same problem, mine seems to work when I jam something between the cluster and the cluster surround.

Thanks for the video. I will give it a go.
But those blue fuses has nothing to do with this as they are for the central locking. They are mentioned in the haynes manual. Took me a lot of time to find to deactivate my faulty central locking.

    Jetzt funktioniert wieder alles...
Ich denke durch die Feuchtigkeit korrodiert die Leiterplatte...

The problem is the wiring loom is too tight, not enough slack and the plug comes loose from the back of the cluster.Every time It goes bad I open it up and the plug has pulled out a fraction and needs to be push back in and then it is good for a while. The lever lock on the back of the plug cant hold it in tight enough. A way to lock it in permanently needs to be worked out. I have an Idea to cable tie the lever down but have not tried as yet.

I know it's old. But you do know you can reach the cluster plug. And disconnect without doing all this yeah?

Cheers for putting this video up, I have the same issue in my 04 transit it's still shows the rev counter working, it's been sat up for weeks, it's got a problem with the mileage display, it's got the lines appearing intermittently, I think it's got damp probably, just glad I've already got some contact spray.
I wasn't sure how to take it apart to get to so again thank you very much!

      @Davidsdiscoveriesinnature 4 года назад

@@robertlong9552 To be honest with you I haven't even taken it apart to look at it yet, but I'm almost certain it's something to do with damp getting in somewhere, I tried to start it the other day after the storm, happened before I even went anywhere, but I have found that keeping the heat blowing sorts out the problem, but I will have a look in the next few days, thanks to the lock down I will be able to!
      Cheers.

I’ve realised this suspected fault is in-fact integrated design. If you pull off too fast , drive at speed over bumps the clocks cut out to slow you down. Once you drive smoothly again they cut in again
