Gibraltar is on almost exactly the same line of longitude as Truro in Cornwall, Haverfordwest in West Wales, the Isle of Man and Stranraer in Scotland. Bilbao is on the same line of longitude as Blackkpool. The West of the Republic of Ireland which, like us, is GMT/BST is further West than the most Westerly point of Portugal. It is therefore, logical that Portugal, like us, is on GMT/BST .
Spain is the anomaly. Before 1939, Spain was also GMT/BST (in a proper manner) but Franco paid homage to Adolf Hitler by moving Spain to "Nazi time" (Central European Time). My brother lives near Cadiz in South-West Spain with his Spanish wife and he says that there is a large part of the Spanish people who want to go back to GMT/BST. The campaign to change is greatest among the more liberal-minded people who, apart from the logic of it, also want to go back to GMT in order to "clip the ear" of the still Franco-respecting/loving right wing. Because of the nature of Spanish politics, political power rests with the right wing/conservative leaning parties. Within those parties, there are still many who believe that Franco was a great man who brought law and order (as they see it) and GOD back to Spain and it is a matter of faith to stay with "Nazi time".
Although, it being further South, Spain's Summer days are not as long as in Britain and their Winter days not as short as in Britain, my brother says that many in the West of Spain object to going to work in the dark on Winter mornings yet it is still light till about 11.00p.m. in late June.
The Portuguese get up to go to work an hour later than the Spanish .... very sensible people, the Portuguese.

Hi guys. We are just back from 4 weeks away in the van round England and Scotland. No Wi-Fi so haven’t been able to watch your travels. Just watched this one. Excellent as usual. Was able to catch you on the tv on the Motorhome disasters. Still waiting to see the repair after the gate incident. Don’t worry if it’s not possible. We have an apartment in villamoura in the algarve. We will be there all September. You probably will be home by then. Keep up the good work.

Mark, be very careful. Don't go near the edges. Portugal has lots of steep places. They don't always have railings either. 😂😂😊. Portugal has dry heat, so it's more manageable but ensure you both wear sun hats. Take care ❤️🐕
