- There's an expanding restaurant empire in the Midwest that’s about far more than food. "Edwins" aims to tackle one of the nation’s biggest problems: convicts getting out of prison and then going right back in. The story of “Edwins” begins with its founder -- a man who was given his own second chance. Jeff Glor reports.

This owner is amazing and informed. He not only reduces recidivism, but also allows for these former inmates to slowly integrate back into society.
You are one special human being, Brandon. Did the judge who gave you a 2nd chance know about the long term effects of his decision?
Right. It's important for the judge to know.
Excellent question...
I'm sure he does !
Damn ur absolutely right
“2 things,,, the color of my skin, and the grace of god” Kool cat!! This man has a clear view of reality,,, keep in mind his statement about the “real hero here being the community”
Damn he just kept it so real "the color of my skin".
that reporter low key doesnt like to see people rehabilitated he kept try to put in doubt all the hard work that man does to change those peoples life
INSTEAD OF BUILDING MORE JAILS BUILD MORE SCHOOLS, COLLEGES FOR JOB SKILLS AND MENTAL INSTITUTIONS WHERE PEOPLE CAN GET HELP WHEN IN CRISIS
No more college.....lower the cost to attend.
Yes! Yes! Yes!
People coming together to do the right thing.
Vote Bernie 2020!!!
Not him, Us!
S500 Triumph = yes: more education, jobs and good housing & healthcare, try to PREVENT people getting to crisis point!
@@jidowu6019 yes and housing, job/income and healthcare. And prevention for future generations! And (expensive) prison doesn't work = proved, best for all to spend on prevention.
Wow. Finally some good news. May god bless your establishment. Peace to all
Why shouldn't re-entry begin IN prison?
Oh, that's right, in the US prisons are all about punishment.
Yeah, that makes for higher recidivism rates which makes them more money.
Elyse Burns yep especially for profit prisons. 😢
MountainMan23 I think that’s point of prisons to punish criminals
Reentry does begin in prison.
Re entry does begin in Ohio prisons its called Transitional Control. All this guy is saying is he offers his own service of re entry. He isn't saying Ohio prisons don't offer it. I had Transitional Control on my second number in Ohio
God bless the owner of Edwins. I am a Cleveland girl and can’t wait to check this place out. I am also passionate about prison reformation and will be donating to your six-month training, library, housing/life skills 🙏🏻
I miss Jeff Glor on the CBS Evening News so much but am happy that he is on CBS Saturday Morning and is doing wonderful stories like this. Thank you Jeff for doing stories that inspire us.
Beautiful story.
My mom grew up on 11 Mile in Detroit. I grew up in Ohio.
If you disliked this video and/or don't understand what is being done here, you're pretty lucky, count your blessings.
What? Prison reform is better than punishment? A better outcome for society, you say?
The world needs more people like this man. May The MOST HIGH bless you with his present young man.
This man is going places in life. The trust he gives people is what people needed in the first place.
What an awesome man. He deserves the humanitarian of the year award ❤️🙏😀
What an amazing human being!
Wow, amazing story, and the owner is
so handsome!
OMG HOW CAN I IMPLEMENT SOMETHING LIKE THAT IN DAYTON!?
Good luck and blessings to all involved.
This is fantastic, there should be more programs around like this, no only offenders, but for the homeless, dropouts, etc...
As a fellow Clevelander: THANK YOU!
I love that his heart is fully into this! 😍
Great story. Everyone deserves a second chance and hope for a better future,
God bless this man.
They need more true people like this
What a great story, THIS IS WHAT MAKE AMERICA GREAT
The real true meaning of a person with a truly big heart. Turning places n people that been where he been thru n walk live their shoe, n make them bright again. Big hearted truly realest of anybody I know. You can tell that his prison mind set is still in him , "On quote" on saying "I won't take any Government Money" .. . but help within his home where everything started for him where he change the life right around. God bless you Bradda'. Keep that mindset.
I like that he was real about why he got a second chance because now he can give others a second chance for reasons other than stereotypes and statistics.
Very kind man hope he is still running
May God bless him and favor him in Jesus’s name amen
Thank you , for knowing the truth that most refuse to . " Skin Color " I can't say it a enough , thank you ! My heart is warmed and eyes are full of tears 💕💕💕💕
A great story happening in a great city.
I hope that people will see this and be inspired to give someone a chance. When a person is released from prison finding a job is extremely difficult. Finding a home is just as hard. How is a person supposed to stay on the right path if they can't find a job? I have never been arrested myself but I have known people who have been lost to the system. They try so hard but everyone needs to eat. To have a home. If they can't provide for themselves and possibly children the legal way they eventually go back to what they know.
The fact he also doesn’t take any government money also. This guy is amazing.
God Bless that man!
My God, this is a great story. This is the solution: Individuals need an education and skills. The revolving door to prison ends. As a result, they can make a living, provide for their loved ones and give back to the community.
Beautiful story ❤️
This is what we need.
Redeemable!
Oh, by the way, the food and the service at Edwins is terrific.
I'll go eat there to support them

"yOu CAnT sAy thAt on tV"
Wow I love this guys hard work and dedication, brings tears to my eyes knowing that if more people in the world were like him, we would all be better off.
Great idea
I wish they would open a restaurant in South FL! I would definitely support the business!!
wooow hats off, god bless
Wow great Guy
THIS is what America SHOULD look like!!!
May the Lord Jesus Christ bless him , his program, and his participants always. 🙏
Nice!
I support this idea, I also support supporting the victims of the perpetrators who were convicted of committing the crimes. I hope that the 30% who graduate from his culinary academy continue to do right by their communities in and out of the program, and the other 70% as well. If there were a program near me I'd like to think I'd support it. (This is coming from someone who was the victim of a heinous crime 11 years ago and never saw justice, and saw much worse happen to an acquaintance's family, yet am still someone who believes that much good can come from such bad by the grace and forgiveness of God.)
1:14 Why did I get Prison because of the colour my skin and Grace of God🙄
Manjeet joshi A sad reality in America. I'm glad he recognized his privilege, though.
@Awakening Butterfly Who do you want it to be so you can get triggered ...
The grace of god had NOTHING to do with it
@@jidowu6019
No it was the judge that did it don't give credit to something that doesn't exist.
Imagine how the family of victims that were murdered or raped or both would feel. Yeah, they must be fuming to see those convicts getting a second chance living their life at the fullest while their family members or friends are either dead or are living with scars.
Is only senseless people who will not take this chances or opportunity
That man is an 👼 w a big ❤
This man is a man of God

Wat we need in America
CBS ITS A BIG CHANNEL NEWS WHY DONT CBS OPTION IN RUclips VIDEO NEWS HAVE ( CC) CAPITAN SUBTITLE WHY?
If the American society would invest in them when they are children, there wouldn't be as many prisoners. Kids need a role model/mentor to believe in them and push them towards greatness.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Arizona and New Mexico have the lowest average graduation rates at 72%, while Iowa, Kentucky and Nebraska have the highest at 94%.
Peaceful
sub title please
You make your own choices
This people should be become much more attention. Doing much more than policitcans.
Captain America
You are a good man.
God bless your business.
Finally a white man who is Honest The Color of my skin & Grace of God , I wish I can Hug 🤗 Him 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🇸🇴🇸🇴🇸🇴
He could left the grace of god part and everything he say is true. I still love what he is doing.
HAHAHA YoU CaNt SaY ThAt On TV!!!!!!!!
An honest business man, judge gave me "second chance" because the color of my skin: white. He was facing 5 to 10 years in prison.
✌❤
yay... luv it!
So i love that he did this for them especially cause I am a convicted convict that is from Cincinnati, Ohio but do you think its smart to have them doing champagne and wine tasting given most of them are probably recovering addicts. Can you say possible relapse?
👍
Whomever gave this a thumbs down... I hope your life gets a thumbs down
1:16 Color of my skin & Grace of GOD 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
Only 500 views. Sad America will give Gangnam style 25,000,000 views yet something that matters almost none
The color of my skin
how is Ohio midwest?
Ohio is VERY midwest.
You mean 10th chance! Where’s my second chance when I’m late on a bill???
SO THE JUDGE WAS LENIENT TO HIM BECAUSE HE WAS WHITE? BUT I STILL RESPECT THIS GUY BECAUSE HE IS VERY HONEST,,THESE ARE THE KIND OF GUYS THAT CAN PUT DONALD TRUMP TO SHAME
You’re telling me he looked at poor graduation rates while choosing a proper destination? Uh okay.
Empty mind devil of worship .
Busy mind god of worship.
This works because no Govt money is involved
May God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob blessed you,
That's good that he recognizes his privilege.
