    Thanks for taking the time to make this video! Ordinarily I would have just ordered a new tweeter (and they are not cheap!). After watching you’re video I found the same fault with the broken wire on my tweeter and managed a fix. The speaker now works perfectly. Well done and thanks again!

    Thanks for your comments. I'm glad this has been of some use. When looking to repair mine I searched for this sort of thing and it wasn't there. You tube has helped with many other repair guides, so I took it upon myself to make this vid.

    GREAT VIDEO! Also, ferrofluid is starting to break down in older KEFS. Replacing the fluid will restore detail in many first and second generation uni-q speakers.

    Thank you for this nice video. Saved my money. I've done this with my kef iq5. Had a little problem with the solder joint between tweeter and golden wire. After i reassembled the speaker, it makes an unwanted noise at a frequency of about 210Hz. So i disassembled it again an saw that this solder joint hits the membrane of the "outer speaker". I corrected the solder joint and everything was fine!

    Great vid there fella! Been driving me nuts ever since I moved house and the movers dropped them (Q15 Bookshelf) and they went all "fuzzy" and lost all the top end..
    -like you say, anyone with a little common sense can do this mod/repair -and I really like my Q15's enough to do the fiddly work! Thanks again for posting..

    Thanks for the helpful Vid. I had a blown tweeter andI also could see where the fine copper wire had detached from the voice coil. I got a single strand of fine speaker wire to extend where the broken wire was on the voice coil and soldered directly to the terminal , works perfectly now! Didn't add any ferrofluid though as I didn't see any in the first place!

    Thanks! That definitely helped quite a lot. I was close to throwing my Q15.2 away but now they are up and running again. I just hope my soldering is any good.

    Thanks for that. Never feel the need to apologise for your English. It's a second language. Most of us English speakers don't even bother to learn another language.
    Never had Mission speakers but I'd always recommend Kef!

    Nice job, really appreciate it. After I got mine apart, wires were good and I could see the heat damage. Shouldn't have left my speakers at my girlfriends house, with her 2 sons. Note to self, "don't do that again." Thanks, Budd

    The ps1347 tweeter does have ferrofluid (I think all have) . After 26 years or so it hardens into a peanut butter like substance. Often hard to see. If you are lucky, it lets the voice coil move free and maybe it sounds even louder. I had one tweeter completely glued and it sounded pretty dull. So this should be removed and fresh ferrofluid should be applied to bring the performance up to specification.

    Thanks for this ! i have 2 questions : 1/ when you glue back, how do make sure that the coil is concentric with de magnet groove ? 2/ i had some oil in my tweeter (SP1542) did you have / put some ? thanks again !

    • @nugsy71
      @nugsy71  5 лет назад +1

      1) The groove itself ensures it's concentric. . . 2) I had no oil / ferro-fluid in the tweeter I did.

    Hi! Any tip where to buy the tweeters? I got a pair of iQ30s but unfortunately found that the tweeters are not original and not OK. :/ Our local support tells me that it is only possible to buy the whole concentric set of bass+tweeter (for a fortune)...

    Okay people, I apologise. At approximately 8 mins & 30 seconds I should have said to solder the red and gold wires back to the posts on the driver housing. That should be obvious to anybody with common sense enough to take this on.

    Is it the same for the uni Q30 ?? Red = low Frequency , blue = high Frequency ??

    I just bought a second hand kef q55 driver for my q15.2 it should still fit right? Ignoring the fact that it can handle an extra 50watts than the other q15.2 driver.

    • @nugsy71
      @nugsy71  8 лет назад

      +James Moxon Yes. I see many advertised as replacements for the full Q range.

    • @nugsy71
      @nugsy71  5 лет назад

      After all this time I've just learned that despite matching part numbers, the Q55 mid driver is not interchangeable with the Q15/Q35. The Q55 version is 8ohm, the others are 6ohm.
      It may work, it may not but will be out of balance with your other speaker.

    Do you think the kef reference model 3 would be repaired the same way?

    • @nugsy71
      @nugsy71  3 года назад

      I'm not familiar. The only way to know for sure is to dig in and see.
      I also don't know if the Model 3 is the older one or the new £10k ones. The older model 3 looks to be of similar Q construction but I've not seen it's tweeters.

    Would there be any possible chance you could show me how to change the driver to the kef q15.2?

    • @nugsy71
      @nugsy71  8 лет назад

      +James Moxon No, but I can tell you - take out the 15.1 & put in a 15.2. They're the same fit. It is that simple. I didn't change the crossovers or anything. TBH I just wanted the same silvery looking drivers as my other speakers.

      Fair enough, thankyou.

    • @nugsy71

      Update : Q55 has an 8 ohm mid driver, the Q15 & Q35 have a 6 ohm mid driver. Physically the same size and part numbers but they do differ.
      For some reason I had previously read that as a Q15 to Q15.2 driver swap.

      Hey, Nugsy71 - if you are still watching this thread - one question I'm not clear about - after replacing a voice coil or fixing the coil wire connection, how do you re-seat or re-stick the fabric dome to the plastic ring behind it?

    • @nugsy71
      @nugsy71  5 лет назад

      @@joesmith7894 Sorry buddy I wasn't watching! I don't believe I used anything but the plastic housing. That clamps down on to it as far as I remember. It's been a long time since I did this & now I have another broken tweeter. If it's the same problem I may well update this video while I'm at it.

    Interesting video but dude, next time check that the photos are in focus.
    If you can't get as close as you want and still be in focus, pull back a bit and remember that digital cameras have a lot of resolution so you can zoom in the image after.
