KEF Reference 105 3

Short promotional film made circa 1990 about KEF Reference 105/3 loudspeaker.

For anyone interested, these were the speakers used by Patrick Bateman in the film American Psycho. The film takes place in the late 80's, and because of his expensive tastes in everything these speakers perfectly complimented his apartment.

Thanks for this. I used to own a black pair. I paid 7,000 Dutch guilders at the time for a new pair (approximately 3,200 euro's). I sold them a few years ago for too little money. I regret that every day still, should have just repaired them.

1979 Model 105.1 was their best spkr. Drivers had fuse protection, later models used circuit breakers, who’s operational magnetic field, induced RF distortion to the crossover network. I still have my .1’s & will never part with them.

KEF made some fantastic speakers in the late 80s, early 90s. My C95s had a lot of the technology from the 105/3 in them. Too bad they now manufacture the majority of their speakers in China.

This is a bit misleading because not all KEF products are manufacture overseas. I think that you are missing the obvious, if all production was in England, then KEF would run out of business because neither of us could actually afford a pair without a huge loan, a new pair of KEF Blade costs more than a few brand new vehicles for instance. All I’m saying is that we should welcome the fact that KEF took the initiative to have some of their products outsourced so that a wider group can buy and enjoy and they can continue making research and development for better models and materials on their high end products.

I have a pair of these 105/3's with the Kube, awesome speaker, got them setup with a Krell KSA 100 power amp, Classe Audio DR6 preamp and a E-Sound CD5SE CD player...stunning sound. This system will shortly be for sale for anyone interested.

o0OFOEO0o Excellent, they were very well cared for by a KEF expert who also replaced all the doughnut surrounds in the bass drivers. There is one small chip on the side top edge of one speaker but my furniture restorer says this is an easy fix. Only thing that really needs doing is replacing the grill cloths
