Cheap plastic carbs! Best simple solution without all the added BS. THX
You're welcome
Great video, my trim mower started surging, but I didn't have time to go into the carb. I shot Seafoam top end cleaner with a 10 minute hot soak. Immediately stopped surging.
Glad you got yours fixed up. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. Cheers
finally found the video on how to actually fix these plastic carbs that surge. Even the new ones surge! Imagine that.
You can thank the EPA for surging small engines.
Excellent tutorial !! It's excellent because of the caution you give about not expanding the main jet to much.
I cleaned my carburetor and expanded the main jet to much. Engine would not start and had to buy a new plastic clip,$8.00. Wish I had found this video first. Fun fact, if a little bit bigger is good, a lot bigger is not better.🤥
This is very true. Can be too much of a good thing. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. Cheers
Fought a surging issue on one of these cards. Finally found by removing the white jet assembly (pry it straight out) then separating the assembly (2 piece) more holes will be exposed to clean out. Ran perfect after that.
Thanks for adding your tip. Cheers
I've been wracking my brain on this stupid plastic carb. Thank you so much! Definitely earned a sub!
Appreciate the sub. Glad it helped and thanks for watching. Cheers
It is the OLD MAN at Eliminator Performance, finally a recommended video that showed up. Have not seen you for a while since we have been slammed with repairs and just looked to see that you finally got monetized. Congratulations keep er going i think you will be surprised what comes in within a few years of keepin it going. Good luck and stay healthy. Those are the carbs that the choke lever needs to be ground back to eliminate sticking on the metal mount i noticed this mount is not slotted for the choke.
Thanks Wayne. Finally made it to 1000 subscribers. Pretty cool but I'm going to keep adding to the playlist. Thanks for the kind words. I know what your talking about with regards to these carbs. Pretty sure I watched one of Jake's videos discussing this a while back. I hear you about being busy. Tis the season. Cheers
Love Eliminator Performance
Nice clear non technical information 👌
Not worked on one yet however I would be confident taking one when I do after watching your video
After initially hating these carbs I actually think they're much better and easier to remove, repair, or replace parts....Mine surged and after tackling it using these videos it runs better than ever...thank you.
Glad I was able to help. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Cheers
Thanks for this video tutorial. I followed all your steps and fixed mine. My carb is brand new, needed a little jet enlargement, new O-rings( black for the back side of the carb and the red one that seals to the engine block.) Done, fixed. Thanks.
Glad I was able to help. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Cheers
American in Seattle. Love your videos. Really you are helping me in my equipment. Doing a small side biz just telling people what ethanol does to small engines. I just offer cleaning carbs. Blade sharpening. Replacing primers small things I can do...
Thanks for the comments. Glad I can help out. Good luck with the side biz. Sure helps with all the inflation going on these days.
Oh
What's it doing
you should separate the two pieces of the white jet module.....there are 3 or more holes on the tube and they can get clogged....also I have seen guys remove the check ball and clean the tube from the jet to the ball because crap can get there also....i have a carb right now that i have the same issues as you and these tricks fixed it great...thanks....also one other trick I saw was that the choke lever was hitting the air cleaner bracket and causing the choke to stay open all the time...this was fixed by grinding the plastic on the choke lever to avoid interference with the bracket....unless someone showed this to me, I would have gone insane trying to figure out the "no-start" situation
All good tips. As mentioned at the beginning of the video, I did fully clean the carburetor and it was still surging. Drilling the jet is definitely a last resort. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment.
I find t in the uk the stiga engine low flow jet has the very same problem and the same fix can be used too
Thanks for letting us know. Cheers
In the absence of a small enough wire, would a can of compressed air work well? Thanks.
The reason for using a wire is to scrape any solid deposits from the jet. Compressed air is unlikely to do that
@@brantsmallenginerepairs That makes sense, thank you for replying!
I use guitar strings to clean jets...the bottom E string
I have heard that as well. Thanks for the tip. Cheers
B12 or sea foam will usually stop it but better to drill😊
It’s common to drill them out one size on every one I clean and 3 on the surging ones 😊
Seems to be the new norm these days.
Wire from the bread bag works well
I already tried that. Didn't fix it.
Replaced the (styrofoam) carburetor with an aftermarket clone. Surged right out of the box. Wound up buying a drill bit set and drilling main jet one size larger. Seems to be working better now. Drill bit set junk but the job got done.
Thanks for watching. Cheers
Those white jet inserts are sold separately also 🙃
True but everything from the US that is shipped to Canada is ridiculously over priced. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. Cheers
Those carburetors without the primer bulbs have a design flaw that allows dirt into the float bowl that no one seems to catch. Red o ring between filter housing and carburetor on the righthand side doesn't seal. Look carefully and you'll find it. Spray cleaner through that hole of disassembled carburetor and you'll see where all your dirt is entering float bowl and clogging jets.
Thanks for the tip. Cheers
Do not drill the jet out. Use a small strand of copper wire to poke it clear and use carb cleaner and compressed air to blow it out. Drilling can ruin the carb. If it used to run right then started surging then the jet is the proper size and does not need drilling. The buildup just needs to be removed. Usually buildup from old gas.
Also using a fuel additive lake Startron is the best thing you can do for your small engine carburetor.
As I said in the video, I already cleaned out the carb. Sometimes no matter how well it's cleaned, it still won't run right. Drilling out the jet of a carburetor that is not functioning after proper cleaning will work sometimes and sometimes you just end up replacing the carb anyway. Plenty of small engine mechanics use this trick. Feel free not to use this technique. Just giving a last resort option when proper cleaning doesn't completely solve the issue.
I just drill every plastic one I work on and be done with it 😊
Good tip. Cheers

Sorry Richard, are you asking if it will hurt the engine?

Will Not Hurt Small Engine.Richard.
@Richard Ybanez if it surges for a short time but then smoothes out then you wouldn't do this. This technique should only be used if you've cleaned the carb and it still surges.
I spent more time trying to reinstall in lawnmower that plastic cover and screws wouldn't line up...but got it.
They can be a pain in the but sometimes, that's for sure. It gets easier the more you do it. Cheers
Where'd the adjustment on a Toro personal pace mower?
Are you asking how to fix a surging engine on a Toro Personal Pace? If so, what type of engine does it have? Briggs and Stratton, Tecumseh, Kohler?
@@brantsmallenginerepairs have to check..not at home now
@@brantsmallenginerepairs Briggs engine on Toro surging
@@gradyhernandez4699 if your engine is surging, it's because it's not getting enough fuel. Take apart the carburetor and clean the main jet.
As your rings ware and lower compression you have to drill jet out to eat .0024/25 to have power and run right
It’s that simple folks
I do agree for older machines but this mower was less than 2 years old. I believe it's more likely the carb was designed with the smallest jet size to make this thing run. As soon as our ethanol-based fuels start sitting for any length of time in these plastic carbs, they start gumming up. I constantly have this issue with these plastic carbs. Thanks for watching. Cheers
@@brantsmallenginerepairsI was talking about really old ones, yes theses are two small so we drill them all out to, we have a bit that the shop uses on all of this carbs
I use wood popsicle sticks buy at Walmart to take fuel line off without damaging rubber hose
Thanks for sharing the tip
Need to file a class action lawsuit against Briggs
They were most likely hamstringed into it due to EPA. Sucks but at least it's a pretty easy fix
I don't know why no one uses a putty knife (thin!) for prying open things.
You do you bro
Guess after removing the carb 6 times to clean it im gonna have to remove it again to drill it out
If you clean it thoroughly once and it's still surging, either drill out the jet or replace it.
Can't clean my carb, don't have two different color gloves.😂😂😂😅😊
Don't judge. I'm just a lowly carb cleaner dude 😎
The brass chunks make it run better,.Yo..
Use compressed air
@@brantsmallenginerepairs That really helps get the chunky brass shavings right into the combustion chamber..Thanks
@@davidcarper5411 You realize this is done with the carb OFF the machine.
