Pixel Watch 6 Months Later // Needs Improvement

  • The Google Pixel Watch has been out for 6 months now, but the truth hurts. The Pixel Watch is OK, but it's not great and the Fitbit Subcription is a ripoff. The Pixel Watch is an ok first watch from Google but it's behind the Apple Watch and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, and Galaxy Watch 5, and the FitBit subscription for $10 is a really bad deal. Google needs to get rid of the Pixel Watch FitBit subscription and make it free. The Pixel Watch battery life also is not very good and won't last the full day especially with sleep tracking on, and the watch is a bit too small. Google needs to make a more powerful Pixel Watch 2 and make two models: A Pixel Watch and a Pixel Watch XL, and also increase the battery life and add free FitBit Premium service.

As a Pixel fan since the 2XL I was always looking forward to a watch from Google. Last year when they announced the watch I was going to purchase it to go along with my upgrade to the 7 Pro. I had the 6 Pro but no matter what I tried it was too buggy for my liking. Anyway, once I saw the size of the Pixel watch and that there was a pay wall for useful health information I decided to purchase the galaxy watch 5 instead. I really like that watch and I can go 2 days between charges. I also get all the health information that Google provides but without a monthly fee. Out of the box the galaxy watch only provides ECG and blood pressure for galaxy phones. However, I found a work around on RUclips that gets me that information using it with my 7 Pro.

I really love this Watch, Battery is not an issue for me and I don't even use Yt Music Premium or Fitbit Premium, so I didn't even sign this free 6 monts, I don't need them.
But I know that people have a lot of problems with this watch.
    I'm sticking with mine :)

I get about 4 days on one charge with Galaxy Watch5 Pro BT. Have turned notifications on, calls, raise to wake, auto brightness, location, Wi-Fi on auto, automatic tracking sleep, and sports activities.
Always on and health measuring is turned off, except pulse on 10 minutes while not active and those while it detects when im sleeping.
Everything except those few settings are on, and it's always synchronized with maps, multimedia, and other stuff on the phone and controlling Galaxy Buds.
Watch4 Classic is much worse than Watch5 Pro, 2-2 and a half days on one charge for mostly the same settings. I miss rotating bezel a little bit, but I rather chose almost the double battery life.

You finally mentioned Garmin. Garmin has a 5 to 10 day battery life depending on the model. My 645 music last 7 days. I get notifications, fitness tracking, and workouts. Oh and customize screens. People should give try them! Groups, challenges, etc, etc. I tried Fitbit once way back in the day. Didn't care for the UI and then the watch broke. Went to Garmin, haven't looked backed!

I recently switched from the iPhone SE 3 to the Google Pixel 7a & I love it, but I had to give up my series 7 Apple Watch. So I’ve been looking into the android smartwatches and I’m debating on waiting to get the pixel watch 2 or just settle for a galaxy watch. Before I switched to a smartwatch I was wearing a G-Shock GA-700 series which I am currently back to wearing. Which is fine and all, however now I miss wearing a smartwatch and I don’t think I can go back to wearing a regular watch .What would you recommend?

I have to think this was meant to come out back in 2020 just based off the specs. But after the pandemic and the chip shortages of last year and the R&D already invested they decided to just release it as is...granted at a price too high for what you get.

Great video!! I heard the pixel watch can still tell time even when the battery is pretty much dead? Also, I find Fitbit has most of their health metric data for free which has been pretty useful. I had premium at one point for one year with my inspire 2 and as cool as the workouts and stuff are I personally don't see that it's necessary for general health tracking.

I intentionally purchased the Bluetooth model because I knew battery life wouldn't be that great. I had a Galaxy Watch 4 LTE before this. In my opinion it's been a good experience though step tracking is extremely sensitive to where if I wave my hand around it'll track steps. After a day of work though it basically gives me the same data as my Watch 4, Watch 3, and Watch 2. Battery life has been good. I get around 2 days of battery life. I do use the Fitbit premium features and will hate having to pay and think they should rethink their approach with the subscription. They're gonna have to compete more aggressively moving forward when the competition offers many of the same features free of charge.

I'm thinking about upgrading my smart watch. Im currently using a Ticwatch on a Pixel 7pro. But I'm thinking about upgrading to something faster, smoother, and more reliable, any recommendations? I was deciding between Galaxy watch 5, or pixel watch, or should I wait for something a few months out? Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thank you

@@TechOdyssey what can you actually do with the information provided with a sleep tracker? Maybe there is something useful if you have a condition, but if you don't, I can't really see much of a point to a sleep tracker. If they could find a way of tracking how many times you can blink in a day, many people would start getting concerned about that. Anyway...it's certainly a view. No disrespect to you or your views. As someone that's pretty entrenched in the Google ecosystem now (Pixel 7 Pro, Nest Thermostat, Nest Hub, Pixel Watch) I honestly don't even use my Pixel Watch for any sleep tracking. I let the Nest Hub do that for me. It does a remarkably good job of tracking sleep and helps eleviate the battery drain on the Pixel Watch. The watch itself is nice, but it screams Gen 1 at every turn. The bezels are really the biggest drawback. If there is a Pixel Watch 2 (hard to say, don't think the Pixel Watch is really a big seller) they need to have a true full screen display and they need to focus on size options. It's not far from being a worthy competitor to Samsung.

Honestly I think it's a pretty good watch. Has lots of features I like and the battery life is no different for the same functions as what I use my apple watch se 2022 for. The average person is going to be just fine with it. However I do agree the galaxy watch in general is a better product. I think in many ways it's better then apple watch. If you are team android get either a pixel watch or galaxy. I got my pixel watch used like new for £140. So I really can't complain.
