i mixed this show/tour with Fates and can attest to Mark having always brought that level of attention to detail. i come back and watch this every few years and never regret it.
Saw them play in Pittsburgh, PA at Graffiti (club no longer there) on Parallels Tour with some band called Invid opening. Simply the best musicians and live show I’ve ever seen.
Mark has a touch, tone, taste and muse behind the kit unlike anyone else. So truly grateful I had the immense privilege to witness him front and center stage during both this tour and Perfect Symmetry. Awe inspiring musician. Such a genuine and kind man as well.
Mark is like a painter that took up the drums. So much creativity and style in his playing. One of the best in the metal scene Criminally underrated, just like Fates Warning.
Zonder is unmatched in his use of intricate and complex patterns, and he incorporates his cymbal work in the music so tastefully it makes me sick....Zonder is world class top shelf shit!!!! Fates Warning Rules!!!!
I absolutely agree. Zonder has a special, individual magic that is often more musically extrapolated than the above mentioned masters. No one like him.
Gosh damn this guy is a god. This is one of the best videos of his drumming I've found on here. Life in still water has some killer drums it's cool to here him play on a electronic drum set
I have that fact that Dream Theatre is fuckin overated while Fates Warning is underated....Believe me i can live all my life without listen to DT, but Fates Warning is another story - is the band number 1 of progressive metal.
No, this is the original CD I purchased when it was originally released. I didn't use any EQ, I just normalized the levels when I joined the audio with the video.
I listen to the previous album in 1991. I thought that they must either have two drummers or recorded different takes. He is one of my favorite drummers ever.
Mr. Zander is a beast behind that kit. In the world of prog rock, which is my favorite genre, I have to go Neil P, Mark Z, Mike P, and Scott R. as my favorites!
Mr ND: Did you filter the studio with an eq boost, or is the a released remaster? I only ask because it seems that the bass eq is much more pronounced, which I much prefer by the way.
In the beginning seems to be 6/4 at approximately 127bpm. Then it becomes 4/4 and 6/4 until the vocals, then 4/4 with another 6/4 bar just before the chorus - I'm not 100% sure but that's what I figured. After that, repeat.
I down voted this not because I don't like Mark Zonder (he is one of my favourite musicians) but because I find it silly to use a live video and a studio audio. Leave the live video and use live audio.
The original live audio quality of this video was horrible, and I also tried to show how incredibly precise Zonder is being able to reproduce live exactly what he did in the studio.
This guy is so impressive and so underrated its unbelievable, he creates music in the drums, not just playing a beat.
Ranks right up there with Neil Peart. Mark Zonder is the by far the most underrated drummer on planet earth .
Terry Brown, who produced almost all the Rush albums said he never met anyone with that precise kind of timing, and I guess that surpasses Neil Peart.
Zonder needs to be written in the the music history books as an inventor. So unique. So beyond incredible.
This dudes playing is so tasteful. Incredibly accurate, not overpowering. It’s like his parts are a song unto themselves

Mark Zonder is the Best. A Perfectionist
Mark has a touch, tone, taste and muse behind the kit unlike anyone else. So truly grateful I had the immense privilege to witness him front and center stage during both this tour and Perfect Symmetry. Awe inspiring musician. Such a genuine and kind man as well.
Lisa Bella Donna awesome, that must have been quite the shows my friend..
Something so magical during the Zonder years.
Mark is such an underrated drummer. His playing on Perfect Symmetry and Parallels is mind blowing.
He brings so much flair to metal drumming. He allowed Fates to change their sound from Perfect Symmetry
Mark is like a painter that took up the drums. So much creativity and style in his playing. One of the best in the metal scene
Criminally underrated, just like Fates Warning.
Agree." Criminally underrated" Amazing musician. Mike Portnoy once said MZ was the most difficult drummer he ever tried to replicate
Enrique Mora I can definitely understand why.
Mark Zonder is perfection
One of the most interesting and original drummers of the genre, no doubt.
Mark Zonder is unbelievable!! Love his drumming art
Most amazing drummer I've ever seen. Hall of Famer for sure.
Awesome! One of the best drummers ever! His dynamics and the intricacies are just amazing. Totally underrated!
Master Zonder. Brilliant. Fates rules
My favourite drummer..ever...!!!
Like Terry Brown who produced Rush......he said Mark is a machine...just fucking incredible...style...timing...execution....unmatched....
Zonder is unmatched in his use of intricate and complex patterns, and he incorporates his cymbal work in the music so tastefully it makes me sick....Zonder is world class top shelf shit!!!! Fates Warning Rules!!!!
Mark is a Phenomenal drummer
Needs to be recognized for the intricate beautiful drumming he puts out. Like Harrison, Jarzombek, Colaiutu, Grossman, total under rated
I absolutely agree. Zonder has a special, individual magic that is often more musically extrapolated than the above mentioned masters. No one like him.
"I can't play that. Even if I could, I'm not the guy who made it up." - EVERY DRUMMER EVER
his compositions are incredible on this album, so much going on, it sounds impossible to play with only 4 limbs, and a nice jazzy touch
Mark Zonder = Precision
I remember first hearing this album thinking it was a drum machine. Ever since I’ve been a huge Zonder fan. Such a great person on Social media too.
Gosh damn this guy is a god. This is one of the best videos of his drumming I've found on here. Life in still water has some killer drums it's cool to here him play on a electronic drum set
Check his work on the recently released AtoZ album with Ray Alder, excellent drumming there too!
I always knew this guy was amazing, but Jesus Christ… this is just over the top incredible….
absolutely the best rock, progressive drummer ever.
Thorpenator yep. No question.
this is all kinds of amazing, and is precisely why I love Fates Warning so much. Mark is just incredible!
thanks for posting this :)
Atomic clock accuracy, most underrated metal band of all times
Omega Destroyer Agree 100%, I saw them in Atlanta in 2003 with Dream Theater and Queensryche. 🤯🤯🤯
One of the greatest drummers if all time and whoever down voted this should be fucking smacked.
...not "one of", but THE ONE!...
that's a perfect sounding kit for prog metal and Mark's playing is incredible.
The Best. Period
MAMA MIA !!!! ..PERFECTION TOTALES !!!!
Love to watch a master at their craft, mesmerizing. Frustrating too, because I can't do that.
Best ever for me! No one come closer...Miss him in FW...
The most amazing of them all! At least to me!
Underated band. Aamzing songs they have produced
Mark Zonder is the greatest.
he is FANTASTIC
Love zonder feel besides the techniques the guy has awsome feel to his groove
love Zonder, he Portnoy and Harrison are my favorite prog drummers. love the traditional grip
Very very very very nearly to perfection...the tempo is fuckin' perfect
One of the best ever
I have that fact that Dream Theatre is fuckin overated while Fates Warning is underated....Believe me i can live all my life without listen to DT, but Fates Warning is another story - is the band number 1 of progressive metal.
By far best drummer they ever had.
Mark Zonder o batera é muito bom. Sincronismo quase perfeito estúdio/ao vivo. Excelente postagem MrNickDrummer.
GREAT!
BETTER THAN DREAM THEATER
Obviously!
Disagree, portnoy is better
No, Portnoy isn't better.
Portnoy not even close to being better, thats laughable
Some try, some beat them, some smash trash some people just can't play. Thank u Mr Zonder way to make love to the skins.
this is awesome! great work!
Such a god !

Cool!

Mr. Zander is a beast behind that kit. In the world of prog rock, which is my favorite genre, I have to go Neil P, Mark Z, Mike P, and Scott R. as my favorites!
Awesome! traditional grip
Fates Warning just isn't the same without Mark Zonder.
No and never will be. Still love the band
I am still trying to figure how he plays some of these songs without an extra 2 limbs lol.. he is a beast!!
Check out the APSOG footage...a masterpiece!
Uh - wow!
Thunder Child \m/
I dont understand thumbs down on this.. probably some frustrated drummer...Zonder rules
nice
Much appreciated, thx! /,,/
God is Real.
Mr ND: Did you filter the studio with an eq boost, or is the a released remaster? I only ask because it seems that the bass eq is much more pronounced, which I much prefer by the way.
I think it starts in 7\4 . I hear the influence of neils subdivisions parts.that ride bell hi hat thing
I've been a Fates fan since the 1990s and a musician since the mid-1970s. What is the meter (time signature) on this song? I cannot figure it out!
In the beginning seems to be 6/4 at approximately 127bpm. Then it becomes 4/4 and 6/4 until the vocals, then 4/4 with another 6/4 bar just before the chorus - I'm not 100% sure but that's what I figured. After that, repeat.
MrNickDrummer Thanks. It almost sounds like 9/8 or something. I’m a 40-year lazy bass player; I just follow you drummers! LOL
The second section with the two handed hi hat ride pattern is in 10/4
this is gold! is there a version with the live sound?
Mark Zonder thanks. this is a golden internet moment for me!
Zonder can put Portnoy the poser in his small packet.
This is cool, but the video is obviously sped up in sections.
That’s because they are trying to match live footage with the studio track
this is a live video playing to the studio recording 😂😂😂 dude u cant fool us musicians 😂
faded out during the best part. smh
Good luck...he's in a class by himself... literally...,😂
I down voted this not because I don't like Mark Zonder (he is one of my favourite musicians) but because I find it silly to use a live video and a studio audio. Leave the live video and use live audio.

What's so great about this dork?? He's a drummer. No big deal.
go play MY chemical romance kid.
@@alanalmlop5677 xaxaxaxaxaxaxaxa
He's a terrific drummer.
obviously many people appreciate his work, get outta here
And you're just another online critic, nothing "great" about you either :)
