Been into this band and all it’s incarnations since 1983! My all time fave band!
      Arch Matheos is brilliant also!

Hi Tom. That was a really good reaction there from what sounds like a great band I’d not heard before. All the best. Dave✅✅

If you want more proggy Fates Warning then you need to listen to something off of Perfect Symmetry.

    Nice Bourbon...
But if you really love Single Malt whisky you should try the big 3.
    1.) Oban
    2.) The Glenlivet
    3.) Bushmills
    The older - the better!❤️
    Don't miss it!❤️

Fates Warning actually precedes Dream Theater. Their style is more about mood but they can still kick your ass.

FW - The Eleventh Hour - absolutely legendary track! I'd go there next.

This song is ok. They have better songs to choose from. I would recommend Still Remains

But only the Mark Zonder Era...
Mark Zonder was the Drummer of Fates Warning.

New Prog? These guys have been around since ‘82. Pre-date Tool by a long way. The bands they probably get compared to most are Queensryche or Dream Theater. One of my favorite bands. Inside Out is a top five of all time for me.

So, suggestions for other tracks from Fates Warning, I do recommend A Pleasant Shade of Gray, like I said in a reply earlier, listen to that album in one go, not sure if you can make a video of it, but I cannot recommend that one enough to just listen to on your own in one go. I'd also like to recommend Still Remains, Monument, and The Eleventh Hour. After that, if you want more, I can just easily recommend picking almost any song from Parallels, Inside Out and Perfect Symmetry albums, they're all easy to listen to and have some cool things in them, dabbling on the prog stuff without maybe fully committing to the jump over the edge, and then APSOG happened where they went all in, but did it incredibly tastefully without overdoing it.
Huge shoutout to their former drummer of that era, Mark Zonder. It's really hard to explain why or how, but the way he plays is very unique, and what he did on APSOG is the is something I had not heard before, you'll have to check it out and you'll see what I mean, and I've heard something similar only once after that with another band called Power of Omens (this band goes over the edge super hard, if earlier Fates kinda danced on the "almost mainstream metal" - prog line, Power of Omens flies over that line with a rocket. I dare you to try and keep up with the time signatures and what the drummer is doing).

If you’d like to hear a lil difference from how that sounded to what they sounded like when Ray started singing for them, check out Anarchy Divine off of the No Exit album. Ivory Gate of Dreams off the same album is a plus also. Heck I’m a huge fan so all their stuff is a plus!😂🤘

I lost interest after apsog. For whatever reason their later stuff just did not grab my attention. I always found them better than dream theater though.

Give theories of flight another chance. It's actually the best they've recorded since inside out

About that, if you do go for A Pleasant Shade of Gray, reserve about 50 minutes for that, that album needs to be listened through in one go, from start to finish. Although there's 12 tracks, it's basically just one 50 minute long song. My high school music teacher reserved the school auditorium for us to watch the live recording of APSOG, that was my first introduction to prog and there was no going back after that, one of the coolest memories I have of school and music class.
