    My husband and I dined at Aunty Maile's place last week, based on your recommendation. We're both missing Hawaii and thought we'd give it a try. So pleased that we did because the food was delicious, and the service was quick and friendly. The next time we visit Torrance we will definitely return.

      If you are near the West Side, try Rutts for Hawaii food. It is extremely popular. In Gardena, Hawaiian Style is also very good.

    I used to eat at Aunty Maile's after school when they used to be across frm El Camino College. Then they open another location which is this location on 190th. My favorite are the furikake chicken and shrimp, Loco moco, furikake poke and their special pork ribs that's cooked in pineapple chunks.

    Could you tell us what spice profile Hawaiian food is? The salad needed special plating. So many. Places have fallen into dumping huge portions on a too small plate even styrofoam. They need a whole fish off the grill. The chicken Katsu was falling off the plate. It’s not your fault but they need to care about their presentation.

    I really wanted to love Aunty Maile's. I went on the suggestion of a co-worker and got a combo plate of beef teriyaki & chicken katsu. My katsu was really dry and greasy, not very flavorful, and I have to admit, the katsu my friend got at L&L was so deliciously plump, juicy, and not greasy. The teriyaki was mostly tender and nicely flavored, as I only had to fight to chew through a few areas. Both choices, in my opinion, were too, too salty; I didn't even want to save the other half of my meal for leftovers, and I love leftovers. Overall, nothing made me want to return to give it another chance, sadly.

    Food looked great! Looks like a terrific place. I like your energy and thank you for the video. Poke is traditional Hawaiian food...but that wasn't traditional poke. None of the food was traditional Hawaiian food. I think it is important to differentiate between foods that are common and popular in Hawaii from traditional Hawaiian food. They are not the same thing.

    Sorry, but none of the food was authentic Hawaiian food. The poke and kalua pig were modified versions of real Hawaiian food. You would never find those two versions served in a Hawaiian restaurant. Everything else was Hawaii style food, not Hawaiian. Also most of the 'poke bowl' places in California has 'poke' that you won't find in Hawaii.

      What are some authentic Hawaiian foods?

    • @score2high
      @score2high 3 года назад +5

      @@RockstarEater Kalua pig without the cabbage, poke without the avocado, pipikaula (not kalbi), poi, lomi salmon, laulau, squid luau, raw onion with Hawaiian salt, opihi, ... Also, for dessert, haupia. Don't get me wrong, Aunty Maile's food did look very good. But in Hawaii, that would be considered 'local' food, not Hawaiian.
